@spaceorbison why oh why would you want to ever drive a car then??? One mishap at the steering wheel, a tire that blows while travelling at 70 mph, and you go poof. Listen, we're all going to die one way or another, that's certain. Might as well happen while doing something productive, a true change in the world, like Mr. and Mrs. Seuss here. People like them is what the world truly needs.
bart and hunny bump were both rescued by my uncle in alaska there mother was killed in town and my uncle is a sheriff in the town bart and hunny bump were both then taken to utah and now are in films!
I vote Doug as one of the manliest men in the world. He looks like a grizzly himself with his beard and long hair, wrestles with bears, and trains them to do amazing things lol. Doug, you sir are the manliest man in the world :D
This man did a lot for science in regards to understanding the communication methods of bears. I watched the hour long special on this guy, and it was awesome.
eep! It's scary looking!! Even knowing how good Doug is with them.. It's a bit frightening when they look like they're attacking him! O.O I bet he gets some wicked bruises rough housing with his BEARS!
Unbelievably cool. You know damn well that bear could kill a man like that in like 5 seconds if it wanted to. Clearly there's a very rare and special bond between those two.
Anyone who kills these magnificent animals for sport has issues and is obviously overcompensating for some shortcoming somewhere else..."little man syndrome". It makes them drive big trucks too.
Why debase your argument by taking it away from the main point? Killing animals for sport is bad, in any case, because it is anti-Conservation (and Conservation is good). Leave it at that - who cares how big the hunters' cocks are?
how can hunters kill animals like this? for food, i guess its not THAT bad (still dont agree with it) but for their hides, that is just criminal. its like me killing a guy so i can have his tv.
THis is not the Bart that died. He got a new bear cub which he also named Bart. THis bear is still alive and wasn't in all those movies you are talking about. THis bear is still a teenager. Not old like Bart was.
Your right it "can" happen. It did in Barts case. However it can also happen that the bear one day snaps and wounds or kills the trainer or a by stander. They are animals. Types of animals like this (bears, lions, elephants....ect.) are unlike dogs and cats. Much more unpredictable. Incredibly powerful and deadly. It is a constant danger working with these animals. I could never do it.
Bart the Bear 2 changed my life. I realized that if a bear can follow his dream, then I can too. After seeing his performance in "Into the Wild" I have decided to quit my job and pursue my dream of becoming a circus clown who rides bears. I hope Bart will help me in my journey.
@joeypax I preferred Bart the Bear 3, when he finds the dimension gun and hunts down Chuck Norris, culminating in the best ever fight scene known to man.
Takes some real guts to do so... Bear is what, 5x heavier and could well choke you with its mass? Not to mention he needed to keep his mouth shut or bite would not be fun.
The Bear is a very good movie. If this guy trained Bart in that, props to him. I'd love to see a bear up close, but I don't know that I would want to pet one. Bet that guy has plenty of bruises haha.
The tiger that "attacked" Roy wasn't exactly attacking him, it just thought he was in trouble so instinctively grabbed him by the neck to take him to safely. Unfortunately, Roy has skin instead of fur.
heartwarming - it's true that if you raise a large predator from a pup and give it lots of good care and affection,it will return the love and give you a lifetime of companionship until one day it snaps and eats your ass. Books, movies, and cartoons from Dumbo, Bambi, Watership Down,etc--they all humanize wild animals until the masses of people urn to commune with natures wildest. It's the Darwinian thing/Steve Irwin/ Timothy Treadwell/ Siegfried and Roy. Excuse me, I have to go feed my Chimp.
if you take care for an animal since pup, and make sure its always well fed and not hungry it doesnt matter if its an elephant or a tiger you play with... but of course accidents can still happen even people loose minds
but this is a clear proof that it can happen and its beautiful to watch
Since the bears were taken as newborn cubs, and trained from the get-go, chances are slim of them trying to harm Doug. As well, if they're kept well fed they should have no inclination to eat him xD.
Doug has been rtrianing bears for almost 50 years, Im sure he knows how dangerous they can be, but to this date his bears have never harmed anyone. his training methods are simple, He only takes newborn cubs and from Day one they learn that he is the boss, Bart was a MASSIVE bear and he never hurt Doug once.
This bear is going to kill him one day... it's a sad thing really.. No matter how much you "train" a wild animal, they are still unpredictable... He has a lot of courage, as does anyone brave enough to mess with any wild animal like that.
Did you know that at one point all DOGS were wild? They weren't always "man's best friend". People took em, domesticated em, and here we are today. Same can happen with other animals too.. wow, this dude is either dumb or has lots of courage and a good reason for doing this. And you have to be a big dude and weight at least a 100kgs so the bear does not fling you aside like a leaf. Me and my 65kg would fare terribly :/

We will miss you Bart, he was used in a lot of movies. The Great Outdoors and Legends of The Fall was one of them as well. At the end of Legends of the Fall when Brad Pitt fights with the bear its actually Bart and his trainer Doug Seus.

Doug is unique, and his love for the bears and animals is what makes them love and respect him. The only way I think something could happen to him is if something was wrong with the bear. Humans go off, so why not animals? They can't speak, so we have to read them, and I think Doug can Read Bear, or other animals. Must be special to be able to interact with wild creatures, especially the size and power of a Griz.
If he dies, I'd be a little surprised, even though there is always a huge element of danger in his career choice. However his training style is a good one. Noticed how he gives in to the bear's weight yet, keeps a mutual respect through treats and commands. Also, he raises his bears from birth which always helps.
I don't know about that, he is one of the very few animal trainers that actually knows what he is doing when it comes to bears. If he dies from any of his animals, (which i hope never happens) i bet it would probably be from the wolves he is trying to train.
Of course i could be wrong, no matter how "trained" any wild animal is, they are all still capable of being extremely dangerous.
Bart and Bump steal all of the limelight from Tank :(
Both Bart and Honey-Bump starred recently in Zookeeper with Kevin James. Heck I remember them as cubs in Dr. DoLittle 2 :)
