I recall sailing along (some years ago), smack out in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean on our way to Antigua, and a red dust cloud descended upon us for about three days. There wasn't any high winds involved, though. It just got DARK, quite messy, and extremely eerie! Visibility was down to less than a half a mile at times. I found out later that it was simply dust raining down on us from a Saharan wind storm, a couple of thousand miles away! Ain't Mother Nature something?!
OOhh, that does sound eerie! Not knowing what it was, where it was from, how long it was going to be there, what it was doing, whether it was harmful or not etc..not nice.
im an Aussie, but now in Taipei, and this is absolutely crazy! I mean, i wish i was there to see it myself, but not at the same time. Hope this is not going to cause too much chaos in the city. God bless
I saw your dust storm on Good Morning America this morning. That is just terrible. It shows how mother nature can reek havoc now and again. I think I would be riding with a dust mask just to be safe. Hope it clears soon buddy.
Scientists keep telling us & satellite imagery confirms that global climatic changes are occurring. Those who don't believe that it's happening are just clueless & refuse to consider the mounting evidence that can easily be obtained.
It's sad that it will take extreme weather phenomena (which have been predicted btw) to get folks to see what's really going on. And of course, u can expect the usual end of the world fruitcakes to make all kinds of foolishness out of said natural phenomena ;-)
Yep. That makes me think how can little old us change the weather/climate? I don't argue that they are changing, but not due to us. oops.....big can of worms about to open...I'm going to hide now. :)
The thing about that dust is... It's made up from dried up kangaroos! That's kanga you're breathing!

Yumm! I thought it was familiar. That's why it was so tasty!! :)

Oh yeah, it was amazing, like a dream. It cleared up by lunch time but the dirt is still on the roads 1 week later.

just found this vid i sent ya a message about this
how often do ya have to change air filters on your cars and bikes ?
aeroliner750 2 years ago
On my trail bike, I clean it after every ride in the dirt.
Cars and road bikes, in "normal" conditions, at every service they are checked & replaced if needed.
After this dist, I would suggest they need a good shake out. :)

Thats wild. I would have freaked me out.

It was, and it did :)
It was all too surreal. I'm glad I videoed it because I wouldn't have believed it otherwise.

Red sky in the morning; shepherds warning. Not sure of the significance of this, but its rare I get the chance to actually quote it! :)

Red sky at night Shepherds delight. It cleared up by early afternoon... oh well. :)
I'm glad I was able to contribute to you getting pleasure out of using that quote.

She sure is.

Wow, that's wild. My niece posted a bunch of similar photos (she's in the Hunter Valley) - thought she was using a sepia filter!
Drino1969 2 years ago
Yeah it sure was wild. That's the reason I mention in my comments at the top that the video was un altered, people wouldn't believe otherwise. :)

Time to change the air filter on the bike now ?
uptowndisco2 2 years ago
Yeah, hehe. It looked like my trail bike at the end of a day in the dirt!

This seems to be like the stories of the dust bowl in the US midwest 80 years ago. Hopefully this won't have such a lasting effect.

New Zealand are about to get all our nice top soil. They have a lot of snow on the alps at present..might be a shade of brown in a day or so.
I'm going to CHristchurch on Saturday, I'll take some photos & upload in video format if any good.

Gday. It caused cancellation of the Ferries, flight delays & congestion on the roads.
God bless too.
I used to go to Taipei for my work...not any more though :(
brotherblonde 2 years ago
thats crazy man! I've never experienced anything like that before! I've seen some mad snow storms .. but never sand!
HondaMedic 2 years ago
It sure was. At least you can play in the snow when the storm passes, but piles of dirt? pass. :)

Yeah it was awful. A lot of asthmatics suffered & some school kids were kept home. Not ours though...they are tough!
Today (next day) it's clear as a bell....lots of brown cars though. :)

Just have to love mother nature for reminding us every now and then that she really can kick our asses if she wants.
