It does not need to be on hardcore. I say hardcore so the locust can kill you faster to restart the wave. Also when you are spending you cash on defenses it go's faster.

I'm currently at around $2 million cash, this way truely is the best way of doing it! It can be done without Turbo Controller, just press "Restart from Current Wave" yourself.
