Why do people think this movie was an accomplishment, of course your going to make a "Good" movie if you spend 500 million dollars to make it. Good movies are movies like Reservoir dogs, Evil Dead, Clerks Apocalypse now etc; why because they were working on a shoe string budget and that's what people admire, not movies people throw cash at to make it good. People who know about their movies have a horrible taste in there mouths when moves like this get all the credit just cause their rich.

Now have you noticed there's a sequel for it coming out next year? it will be directed by someone else and the budget will be much bigger. that's what happens when people and movies do well. you make T2 you make titanic. you make titanic and you can do whatever the hell you want! james cameron has goals and those goals aren't cheap.

@TheTechzorro Well Robert Rodriguez still makes low budget movies even though he makes the odd blockbuster from time to time, like Predators will be a high budget movie but he'll go back on to make low budget flicks like The Machete, comin soon. I respect Directors like Robert Rodriguez cause they don't throw cash at movies to make them good, they have good ideas and that's what makes a good movie, not money. That's why i think Avatar is a mediocre movie.

how much money is put into a movie depends on how successful it was financially, not IF the director has made another film before. in the case of stanley kubrick, after making "2001: A space oddysey" which had a budget of 12 million dollars and was HUGELY successful, "A Full Metal Jacket" was budgeted at 30 million and was still successful, so his next film in 1999 was budgeted at 65 million and didn't even make back that figure in the box office. he hasn't made a film since.
