If you notice, Adel's charging, meaning the first DM will hit as a Counter dealing more damage and being more easy to combo afterwards.

If you wonder why Adel dies, well... IIRC he's got the least stamina in the game.

Elisabeth is such an underrateed character. She may not have any projectile attacks, and is mostly close range, but damn she can pack a punch.
