  • She's now employed by Walt Disney Animation Studios (has been for a few years).

    Still my favorite 2D reel.

  • the first one is astounding!! WOW!!

  • Lovely! I wish all your stories would be movies!

  • Absolutely stunning stuff. Very well done.

  • is it me or anyone calarts all ways seem to make realy good animation? :P

  • Great stuff! Where are you working?

  • The end with the cat scared me

  • It's kinda depressing at the start, but the animation is some of the best I have ever seen!

  • makes my stuff look like garbage, this is amazing

  • This collection is absolutely stunning, congrats. The characters are beautifully depicted through their expressions and actions. Watching this was when I truly decided that I wanted to be a layout artist, thanks for helping me out there :)

  • wow! you are a pro!

  • This is one of the best demo reels I have ever scene. It must have been a lot of hard work, but it paid off I am sure. Great job!

  • Thats pretty cool! Wish i could do that.

  • how much experience with drawing did you have before attending calarts

  • What happens to the Dog plushie and what is the fate of the beast!

  • FANTASTIC work. Brought me to tears. I wish I continued towards my dream of animation, but with the economy with the way it is, finding a job in that field would be so hard. Yes, I played it safe, and I hate myself for it.

  • @LittleBuster89 you can always do it on the side, don;t hate yourself, I waited ten years to start animating. I will never stop. Ever. Don;t give up on your dreams, you only have today you enjoy. Good luck and please try to love who you are.

  • @LittleBuster89 I'm still young and naive so I haven't quit yet...

  • fantastic..

  • Are these Pencil animations or did you use a program?

  • These are absolutely flawless. I love the drawings without the color...most people (and even professional animators) would love to have your level of animation, they were absolutely perfect. Even though they weren't all finished, they didn't really need to be - the quality of animation (fluid, natural movement) was perfect. It was THAT amazing. You've inspired me!

  • I was tempted to use my stitch voice for the first part lol

  • where did you get the voice at 3:47?

  • I loved the animation at 2:40 The creature was creepy

  • umm.. have you seen ice age? be original and you could do better

  • Awesome Animation!

  • @MopsHacker ..That kinda stinks...I liked the squirrel

  • SWEET !!! Very cool indeed !!

  • press 8 rapidly for a squirrel rapping a tree branch

  • press 7 for a idea of what's under your bed

  • 3:14 WHAT THE DEUCE IS THAT!?!?

  • wow. very beautiful :o

  • I have but one question. What happens to the squirrel with the car coming at it...? O_O

  • I really love this animation, not only is there a sense of disney and dreamswork feel but there's also a hint of don bluth inspiration in there as well. I mean wow we need more hand-drawn animation in the media. And good ones too.

  • Nothing short of breathtaking. Completely inspiring. I get chills watching this. The emotion conveyed is crystal clear, and the animation is seamless. I should go on, but I'm left a bit speechless.

  • Good

    But I wonder...

Do american schools teach sakuga?...im asking because this is all I ever see from their students

  • This is amazing work. And I've seen a bunch of other people that do this kind of quality work all over youtube.

This kind of quality shouldn't just be in Disney or Pixar films. Cartoons need this kind of quality. But sadly most good cartoons are animated overseas and that means less opportunities for rising animators like me and other people.

It's all because overseas animation is cheaper. It sucks. I hope that someone can change this soon.

Anyway. Sorry for ranting on your amazing reel.

  • 5 people must have watched something else 'cause this is awesome :)

  • First off wtf disliked this it's great, and second thank you for sharing. I must ask are there any exercises, techniques or advice that you might pass on to a lowly enthusiast trying to forge himself into something employable?

  • This opened a whole another world up for me.

    Thanks and great skills wish.

  • How and what did you use to integrate the pencil animation and still see the backgrounds? DO TELL :D

  • that. is brilliant! the little girl with the goggles was me in my childhood. i forgot about those good times! :)

    nice job!

  • This is so beautiful!!

  • I love this! Especially the one that starts on 1:41 - 2:32 it's such a wonderful story about trust and friendship. You are sooo talented! I love how she just dived down, trusting that he would be able to fly and catch her. Perfect!

  • Ugh I wanna go to animation school so friggin bad. Damn my lack of endless supplies of monies.

  • God, this was absolutely amazing!

  • the soundtrack really fits all of the animation. I really love it, I was able to connect to each one and teared up at most parts! I hope you continue doing more for as long as you can!

  • This has beautiful variation in it, and brilliant acting to match. Amazing, high quality stuff.

  • Now that is great 2D.

  • Where did you go to school ?

  • baby gryphon soooo cute

  • Amazing! & inspiring, I'm just starting my portfolio hoping to get in CalArts :) , i'm curious, where are you working right now? greetings from Venezuela

  • That was really awsome hope one day i could be like you <3 keep the good work up

  • THIS IS PERFECT..!!!!!

  • when i started watching this, i thought 'yup, more dysney animations... ;(' but then i read the description and almost died!

  • I think this has to be one of the best 2D show reels I have seen thus far on youtube. I hope you have scored yourself a good job at an animation company because some of your works are just stunning! I would love to see some of them produced into short films - especially the one with the toy dog and the monster! Fantastic work :)

  • I like the crow one. :3 It's sad, but amazing.

  • wow smoooth animation i like tthe trick of the trail marks too well done

  • 1:40 was such an amazing animation~ I wish I could see a full version or a full story behind it!! >w< Amazing job all around!!

  • lmao at the squirrel and the opossum

  • This is just unbelievably gorgeous. I love 2-D animations, and this is fantastic! Well done. =)

  • @johanstone Well i kinda figured they used those supplies X3

  • lol 3:14

  • Love te griffin! :D

  • Incredible job! This is absolutely fantastic! You are a great animator and artist, and very inspirational. I've only started to get into animating and it's very challenging but the reward of seeing your creation come to life in the end is wonderful.

  • must be lealous people that give the thumbs down, this is masterful work, drawing animation is harder than making a drawing since all the images have to be proportionate to the original, so it's not just drawing a pretty picture

  • YOU ARE AN AMAZING ANIMATOR!! What tools did you use anyway?

    (I love stitch ^-^)

  • @StitchCuteandFluffy man it´s hand made animation cant you see it? pencil and paper are the tools!

  • I love the way he draws and the way he animates and the way everything in this video was awesome.

  • Everytime I search for this video and watch it, it never gets old!

  • POOR SQUIRREL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Amazing drawing ability.

  • your animations are so good made

i wish for you that disney discovers your great great talent of animation

good luck from a big big fan

  • Wow!! That was fanastic!

  • YOU ARE AMAZING

  • some great stuff here

  • Great job!!!! Are 2:02 until 2:31 a real movie? Where can I watch it?? AND is 2:43 until 3:45 a real movie, too? Where can I watch THAT?! Both look fascinating!!

  • it suddenly ended, and i feel like i had just been woken up from a trance! lovely, lovely work. the bit with the dog breaking into a run was my favorite.

  • Does anyone know the name of the song?

  • I wish I could see the full versions of all these short films...

  • Great Job Jen! Still love the drawing you did for me! Saw your name in the credits on Princess and the Frog, as well as Tangled! Keep up the fantastic work!

  • The last one almost made me cry. So beautiful! Love all of them. <3

  • omg this is awesome! i want to get into animation too and you are such an inspiration.

that animation with the squirrel and the bird is so sad. poor little squirrely! =[

  • You are so fantastic <3

  • Oh wow... not only is this beautifully done, but it's absolutely enthralling. Often times, even with equally well-made work, my attention will wander because I'm simply not good at staying focused, but the style and personality in these little scenes kept my eyes on the video for the entire duration. :)

  • When I am older (sixteen at the moment) I want to be an animator thats just as good as you! I love this!!!

  • i love the squirell xD

  • stitch! lol!

  • Great stuff!!!!

  • awesome, awesome work. :)

  • What happens with the dog at the end?! Great stuff.

  • this is awesome

  • I LOVE THIS

  • That.... Was awesome.....

  • what are we... in slow motion here?!

    ahaha BEST!^^

  • :0 4 people are jealous of this great animator :F (Y)

  • @Ussay1 i loved it and im very jealous

  • @Ussay1 I always think that too when I see the haters thumb talent down. Or it could be he she has 4 enemies who searched her name. dunno but this vid was excellent

  • @Ussay1

I'm jealous as hell, but I'm giving a thumbs up nevertheless.

  • Thats un-real o.o

  • amazing <33

  • This is some of the best character animation I've ever seen, I love your designs too. The story ideas were nice and simple too, I'd like to know more about the Griffin and the little girl though. I'm glad you got a job at Disney, this is exactly the sort of animation skills they need over there.

  • amazing

  • does anyone know what the song was called in this demo reel?

  • wow... sincerely amazing..i wish i was as stunningly talented as you.. amazing work..

  • Excellent choice of music. Great movement and expressions.

  • saddest animation reel i've seen on youtube. And one of my favourites. Absolutely beautiful

  • @sarahdoodles that dog one at the end kills me every time

  • Godlike, very good work.

  • @miphisto55 Agreed. This is phenomenal work!

  • i was disappointed when the video ended!

    I wanted MORE!!

  • You are what I want to be when I finish my 4 years in animation CB

  • @1heartless1 But excel in your own style; don't try to imitate another. You may be the one to introduce the world to something unique and different (think Tim Burton). Good luck to you.

  • I loved Them all! I'm just an artist, not an animator, but you are both! I especially liked the one with the little girl and the griffin.

  • amazing :D it looks so professional :D honestly ^^ (tho what the heck do I know, I'm just an artist, not an animator.. heh)

anyways, it was brilliant, I loved it ^^ the animations looked really smooth, and I like your character design :D

  • I love the stitch one, it has that lovely rounded feel to it, but no all of it does ! i love the little girl and the griffin, so beautiful :')

  • Beautiful animation!

what program do you use for this kind of 2d animation?

  • @miKaireiDes ... This is traditional animation as in paper and pencil

  • @miKaireiDes Maybe she uses a different program but what I'm using in my program right now for 2D animation is flipbook. Great program.

  • @1heartless1 You oughta try TVPaint, too. AWESOME, but expensive relative to others out there.

  • @toonybrain Im not sure what that program is xD But maybe the profs know O3O Thanks though

  • @1heartless1 My introduction to TVPaint originated with my purchase of a NewTek Video Toaster editing system back in the day; it came bundled with Aura. Then Aura morphed into Mirage. Next emerged TVPaint. It is an excellent software, especially if you have a Cintiq 21UX (expensive, but well worth it if you're serious about animation). These two, plus NewTek SpeedEdit, are my particular dynamic trio of 2D animation.

  • Your shoulders. Upon your shoulders rests the responsibility of fixing today's garbage animation scene my friend.

  • wow, they're all so beautiful!!! such gorgeous animations! the bird/dog one was a favourite. but the creepy cat like thing was scary but awesome!!!! you've got such talent :) wish i could animate like you!

  • awesome

  • this was such beautiful animation. beautifully hand drawn, excellent characters, and just magnificent work! im coming to tears right now.

  • : )

  • nice

beautyful drawingsand many scenes are soo cute^^

  • I am a hand drawn animator. your showreel is one of the videos from youtube that inspire me greatly. the timing is perfect. I am glad u got the job at Disney;s. would be an abomination if they dun hire a person with this kind of caliber such as yourself. truly impressed. and have u got any advice for me? I just graduated and decided to master hand drawn animation. thank's.

  • Original, quite well done. :;P

  • Omg that's amazing.

I wish I could do something like that.. >:

  • Did pixar hire this person? they must be the reason I cry through half those movies now. a dog dying??!

god in heaven... im going to be sad all day

  • I'm in love. Period.

  • I absolutely love this showreel! I hope I can do work this good in the future. I absolutely adore the toy dog, and it reminds so much of the toy dog in my own short film. And this is from 3 years ago! How awesome must your work be now??? XD

  • You're so incredibly talented :)

  • yo just wanna know...how do you animate the character with the backgound is another layer?

  • Oh god the dog at the end made me cry.

    But in a good way.

  • Awesome! You're very talented!

  • Gorgeous!

The one with the squirrel was very sad, too.

  • Forgive me you have the amiability to say like it is called the background music that you used?

  • You are very skilled in portraying indescript and very human emotions and antropomophizing them to non-human subjects. this is amazing talent and i have to wonder at the satisfaction that must come with knowing that you posses the ability to bring simple markings paper to life. Also, a nod and chuckle to the Ghost World reference @ 3:55.

  • I so hope that one day a good old Handpainted animation is coming again to our cinemas. Just like the old movies of Disney. After watching this i really want to take out the old movies out of the boxes wich are gathering dust in my attic :)

thank you for this awesome collection

  • Very excellent work! The one with the girl and the griffin was my favorite :)

  • you are very talented

  • love your Reel Jen! Talented in both 2D, and 3D. Your very talented indeed!

  • were you in the character animation program or the experimental animation program?

  • thats what animation is all about, you cant get that look of love and dedication and simple soul with CGI.

  • Absolutely beautiful

  • It's funny and beautiful at the same time. It's such a shame animation is being pussed back by 3D. The only drawn animation you will see these days are crappy kid shows. Such a shame :(

  • @ikdusVictor90 I have to believe that it won't always be that way. I'm so afraid for hand drawn... my hope is all I have

  • @ikdusVictor90

    Like sponge bob????

  • you're veeeeeery talented!!!!!

  • amazing animation! where did you study for animation?? :B??

  • @kyuubi089

    She went to calarts

  • Absolutely gorgeous! Such strong posing.

  • i would love to watch a full length movie done by you

  • did you like CalArts? I'm thinking of going there and by the way, great animation.

  • i would watch the boy with tthe griffin if it was a movie

  • POOR SQUIRREL

  • superb!!

  • this is really cool! but i have a question, im new to animation and i was wondering how u keep the charcters the same size when they move around? for example: the birds in the second animation have the same size head throughout the entire animation, how would u do that?

  • @emiful333 I'm new to animation too, but I use tracing paper :D

  • Comment removed

  • That was just awesome! One of the best videos ive seen a while on Youtube! Tank you for sharing.

  • Hi Jennifer Hager. I'm 1AnimateArtist1. I know you worked on Disney's "The Princess and the Frog" where you did the heron in the Bayou sequence.

  • omg...i love this so much i can't comprehend words

  • This is fucking amazing!

    REALLY fucking amazing!

I LOVED LOVED LOVED the one of the little girl and the griffin! <3 <3 <3
