Alves is a beast. To me, it wouldn't be a HUGE upset if Georges lost, but if I were a betting man, my money is on GSP. His strenght, athleticism, and his dominance on the ground along with his ability to take anyone down with ease, and a lot of people think his standup isn't good because he got KOd, but his standup is so fluid, its awesome. Sean Sherk, one of the most powerful and successful takedown artists couldn't take down BJ, Georges took him down at will in the 2nd fight. If Spencer Fisher can dominate Alves on the mat, Georges can dominate even more. Also, GSP has better conditioning and in a 5 round 5, that will make a difference.

there are no restrictions on who can train at wrestling. anyone can do it and anyone can get good at it.

If you check the official rules of the UFC, it says you arent aloud excessive vaseline, and if it is viewed as excessive, the ref should wipe it off. GSP didnt actually break any rules

Alves is a beast. To me, it wouldn't be a HUGE upset if Georges lost, but if I were a betting man, my money is on GSP. His strenght, athleticism, and his dominance on the ground along with his ability to take anyone down with ease, and a lot of people think his standup isn't good because he got KOd, but his standup is so fluid, its awesome. Alves has awesome standup, thats why I think GSP will be smart, and take him down and beat him up.

Are they better wrestlers? Because I remember GSP outwrestling the Wrestlers. Sean Sherk, one of the most powerful and successful takedown artists couldn't take down BJ, Georges took him down at will in the 2nd fight. If Spencer Fisher can dominate Alves on the mat, Georges can dominate even more. Also, GSP has better conditioning and in a 5 round 5, that will make a difference.

Good Post. Good arguments, and your absolutely right about Alves developping. He is the true number one contender. I just don't think of all people he's fought, are as powerful, quick and explosive like GSP. Also, Greg Jackson is a fantastic coach, and always has the perfect gameplan for Georges. Should be one interesting fight!
