  • TI used this record in 1954 to demonstrate the first transistor sound reproduction.

  • From Tom Nolan's WSJ Weeken Journal article of Jan 9-10 2009, this recording was made on Sept 3. 1940 at RCA Victor's Hollywood recording studio, It featured Artie Shaw, Jud DeNaut (bass), Al Hendrickson (guitar), Nick Fatool (drums), Billy Butterfield (trumpet) and Johnny Guarnieri (harpsichord). Guarnieri told Artie the night before the recording that he had never played the harpsichord. They rehearsed that night and recorded this gem the next day..

  • The first record I ever owned when I was a youngun.

  • This is my all time favorite song. Gets you going. Thank you.

  • Heavens to murgatroid! I've been waiting for SUCH a long time for someone to post the original Artie Shaw version of this song! THANKS a million! This is my favorite Shaw tune. Gotta love that harpsichord! And how ol' Artie could swing on that clarinet of his. A true classic! You've made my day! :)

  • @JubalCalif Me, too Jubal! Such Artistry on the clarinet, and that stompin' swing rhythm is the best! Thanks, BrightonRock, for publishing this here!

  • @Olbat413

I certainly second that emotion! BrightonRock is OK in my book, thanks to his posting this classic tune! I never tire of hearing this number! THANKS for your insightful, articulate & intelligent comment !!! :)
