an amazing masterpiece. My uncle worked in Lagos for the IDB and came back to east africa with Bembeya Jazz and Baobab LPs. A fan of Cabral, he taught us to sing the cabral song even though we understoond the language not. This is immortal music, artists hitting a peak. Can someone tell us more about this solo guitarist? He chimes divine, as we say in Bengaland Kenya.
Just beautiful! This African music transcending superciality and the usual clichés about what is African music. By the way, "Coumba" is a girl's name often found in the area around Senegal, Gambia
According to an article called "Baobab Bounce Back", written by Lucy Duran for #221 fRoots Magazine (Nov 2001, p 23), "Coumba" is the name of Rudy Gomis' first wife. "That was the name of my first wife" -said Gomis- "The day I went to court for our divorce, I composed this song for her".
The are sooo cool.;D

Hello,
According to an article called "Baobab Bounce Back", written by Lucy Duran for #221 fRoots Magazine (Nov 2001, p 23), "Coumba" is the name of Rudy Gomis' first wife. "That was the name of my first wife" -said Gomis- "The day I went to court for our divorce, I composed this song for her".
Good luck!
