  • Lol i always loved the farty noise the bat made when it blew up

  • Shock! Why is a video entitled 'Breast Self Examination' currently a related video to this classic piece of gaming nostalgia? Perhaps Youtube thinks only tits play this kind of game?

Anyway, a great game this. Incredibly playable with 2 players at the same time, although it slows down a bit. Sadly the game difficulty takes a huge hike upwards by level 3 if I recall, ruining the enjoyment a bit.

  • Just had a look at that one. At 2:03 there is a brief glimpse of some batty.

Nought wrong with the game apart from the fact I never owned it so Arkanoid will always rulefor me!

  • I loved it on my sinclair, espaicially in 2 player mode

  • i remember playing this loads back in the day when the word "batty" had no homophobic conortations whatsoever. i think there were 15screens in total as i seem to remember going through it with a cheat the once. very hard to get past the third or fourth screen though so i dunno why they bothered with so many levels.

  • Gay times in the eighties when eating a faggot wasn't a big deal. I was going to attempt it again when you said there were only 15 screens. I usually like it when it gets hard so early! But in this case I don't think I'll bother. Might be worth poking though!

  • I prefer Batty myself. Arkanoid was great too, but I found this one easier to play. Both cracking games though.

  • I spent many hours playing Arkanoid till I completed it so it sticks with me. I don't have the eye/hand co-ordination now to be seriously tackling Batty.

  • Spinny - you the man! This was a magic game - and the fact it was a freebee - well, words fail bud!

  • Unfortunately, I must have missed this issue of Your Sinclair(?). Maybe if I had played it at the time my thoughts would be different. Saying that, I didn't get far in it so it may get better. Another Sunday afternoon job I think! Good considering it was free. Cheers mate!

  • The first ever Speccy game I played was 'Thro the Wall' which appeared on the original 48k introduction tape. Back in 1983 it was thing of beauty (even on a black and white portable TV).

  • Yeah, I remember playing that one Sunday afternoon when I had played all the pirate tapes to death. When that happened I'd usually type a game out from a magazine. Great times, lol!

  • If I remember rightly, a big difference between Batty and Arkanoid is the way the paddle moves. In Batty it travels at a constant speed (which I think is more intuitive) whereas in Arkanoid it accelerates the longer you hold down the key (which is presumably an attempt to simulate the knob controller on the arcade).

I would also say that Arkanoid has better music and branding but Batty has better graphics and a two player mode.

I had both and liked both but maybe Batty slightly more...

  • While we're at it, there was also a bat & ball game on the B-side of the Goldstar tape packaged with the 48k+ model.

Also, it's not the same sort of thing but I recommend Hotshot as a great variant on the breakout genre.

  • Didn't I already put the Goldstar one up? I'm sure I did!

I don't know Hotshot so I will take a look at it. Cheers mate!

  • I prefer the paddle movement in Arkanoid. Batty is a good game but the backgrounds are an eyesore.

I'm sticking with Arkanoid! To convince any doubters I'm going to introduce his twin brother.
