They had their warning. "No meetings!" If the British had shot that idiot Gandhi back in South Africa, perhaps the jewel would still be in the Crown. Perhaps a few dozen more responses such as this might have cooled the traitorous spirit. General Dyer was the only officer in His Majesty's service that knew what had to be done, and had to balls to do it.
@horselips To clarify before you give Dyer credit, he was a simple soldier following the orders of O'Dwyer. Everyone has a right to free speech, unarmed protesters were slaughtered, this isn't keeping a people under control, it is complete and utter disregard for human rights. And I'll tell you one thing, Gandhi was a complete puppet of the British, the true freedom fighters were those on the streets fighting against injustice and for their country back, not allowing innocents to be hung.
@horselips Honestly, I think anyone would have, as you so eloquently put it, the "balls" to fire upon the unarmed elderly, children and women with fifty soldiers to do the shooting. Furthermore, if we are talking about traitors, when the British finally left India, they were the ones to go back on their words and did not activate the Amritsar Treaty, read up on this. And about the jewel, I think the crown still holds the ransacked Koh-i-Noor, maybe its time they returned that too.
