The trailer is fibbing. It misleads the viewer into thinking that the Guardian said the film was "mesmerising". In fact, this is what the Guardian review said:
"McQueen traces his huffing, puffing odyssey with one of the most mesmerising extended tracking shots since Touch of Evil."
ive heard a lot of great things about this film. I CANT EVEN BREATH WHEN I SAW THERE WAS A TRAILER. I REALLY CANT WAIT FOR THIS FILM TO COME OUT. OH. FASSSYYYY..
This is a brilliant trailer. Just in McQueen's way, it's simple and almost vague, and incredibly artistic. The music is painfully lovely, and with the overlay of the breathing - nothing could have made it better. I'm really struck by the pieces of Brandon (Michael) running, primarily at the end, with how frantic it suddenly is. As though he's trying to run from himself.... Can't wait to see this film.
@clarach21 NO SHIT, i know what you mean...i mean just think of it, rewatching hours of michael in steamy sex scenes or watching his psychotic sexual frustration...that poor rewind button on my remote control will get raped--i think i will be venting my own frustration of a fassbenderless existence.
Very excited to see this after hearing so much about it over the past couple months. Not too happy that us Americans will probably be seeing an edited version in theaters, but I suppose there's always the dvd/blu-ray release for the full movie.
@DDRzukamori No, provided you can find a theater that will play an NC-17 movie, you will get to see the uncut version. The director has full control over the final cut in his contract and he has said he will not be editing the film whatsoever.
@jezzleffezzle I have actually spoken to people who saw the movie both in Venice and then again in New York and the version shown in NY was edited from the original. I know these were just film festivals, but you'd think that if they edit something shown there we'll probably be screwed over if watching it in regular theaters.
@clarach21 Regardless of what is released in theaters I'm sure there will eventually be an unedited version of the movie floating around out there, if nothing else once it's released on DVD somewhere.
Super pissed any of the theaters of my city is showing this movie GGGRRRRR

@marmus2901 I believe it's Journey to the Line, taken from Malick's The Thin Red Line
