Boxing had some incredible bouts and there's no doubt about that, but MMA is quickly taking over. Boxing just doesn't have the same integrity that it used to. Sadly, I think UFC will eventually lose its integrity also but it luckily I don't it's near that point quite yet.

@westjt17 The Gracies introduced BJJ in UFC's infancy, in which thier opponents were weekend warriors and a small handful of full time fighters(Ken Shamrock). It was more of an exhibition of BJJ versus different styles that only relied on stand up fighting. But now that UFC has evolved with dedicated fighters that round out their fight game practicing in both stand up/grappling arts. Now I'm not saying that the Gracies or BJJ are a joke. But there were advantages the Gracies had in UFC.

You dont need to fight a champ in order to be in what you would call a "Real Fight". A real fight(Sport-wise) is just two mixed martial artist fighting against each other. @2ossy It may be a sport, but it's a sport that has individuals competing. It's not like football or baseball where an individual player can hurt the dynamics of a team. Dana was able to afford a freak show and keep him in the lower stables and see if Kimbo can truly sink or swim in UFC giving him some kind of benefit of the doubt. Like you I didn't agree with Dana giving Kimbo a shot, but I do understand why he did it.

@westjt17 The Gracies introduced BJJ in UFC's infancy, in which thier opponents were weekend warriors and a small handful of full time fighters(Ken Shamrock). It was more of an exhibition of BJJ versus different styles that only relied on stand up fighting. But now that UFC has evolved with dedicated fighters that round out their fight game practicing in both stand up/grappling arts. Now I'm not saying that the Gracies or BJJ are a joke. But there were advantages the Gracies had in UFC.

Cool interview to watch from today's perspective. Kimbo DID get owned in the UFC (all my respect to Kimbo - I like the guy), Ortiz IS a non-factor in the UFC and him leaving had no effect on its popularity, Couture came back, the first UFC in Montreal WAS a huge successand now they're about to beat another attendance record. And since, Vancouver was a big success and Ontario has finally come around. They DO want a "piece of that".

i only ever see Dana saying things that are truth, he knows the fight game, he knows the media, i respect the guy 100%. Yes, the organisation should treat their range of fighter's better - but should they it makes it strivecompetition and at the end of the day it is a business. There's a lot of fighters that are in there that are not proving themselves and if some competition in there to make the more relaxed fighters work more good for it!!!! FLL RESPECT TO UFC.
