Weir I've seen this movie twice and own it on DVD but I don't remember ever hearing this music. Is it in every version of the movie?

@sergeantshroom i have its DVD too and it doesn't have this track. if you have watched the interview with composer Eduard Artemev (it's in the DVD too) , he says that he composed some varies of versions of this music but Tarkovsky loved just one piece of them and dictated to use that piece!

I still can't believe that this movie was shot in 1979, seven years before the Chernobyl disaster in 1986.

Funny trivia.

After the chernobyl disaster people who were working there called themselves stalkers.

Also called the area around chernobyl for "The Zone".

@FireOps watched it in 1980-81. many people left well b4 end of movie, not usual film.slow tempo. Tarkovsky was genius,

thought much abt the viewers)). Arkady_and_Boris_Strugatsky - author of novel "Roadside picnick"(1972!!!) - the movie based on. IMHO novel seems good for use as script of thriller.

@DrabOk I fully understand. When I started watching the movie, I started to fall asleep. Had to wach it in multiple sittings since it's just so...slow. I'm not saying it's bad, but some of the shots are so full of peace and tranquility. It's really beautiful and relaxing. A bit too relaxing I dare to say.

If it is Artemev it means he couldnot make a constant quality. I just don't get it the music is so brilliant in Stalker and this is just dull.....

i saw the movie a few days back ..but don't recall this ..anyway magical movie..it was mostly like meditating you just get lost in the beautiful visuals and haunting music.

The Stalker film and game are both based on the novel "Roadside Picnic" by the Strugatskiy brothers. The film may have influenced the game's aesthetics, but the latter is not meant to be an adaptation of the former in any way.

Well i think that movie is pretty much about life itself, cause if you do not belong to any religios confession and do not take any shit from anyone and try to figure out things on youre own here in life than life is just as mystirius and unpredictible as "the zone" and choices might be just as difficult and fatale..

@KLONIME1001 its loosely based on science fiction story about aliens(called roadside picnic) who land on earth and create a zone that if you enter all your deepest desires will come true.

@KLONIME1001 It kinda does not make any sense. The movie is too artistic to make sense. The zone is a confusing place and should be destroyed. Thats the only solution the human mind can make up.
