I read in an interview with the band that it can be about many different things. I interpret it as being about abuse, and the girl turns to other things to try and heal the pain from the abuse.
I think this song has to do with a lot of things. I can't just say abuse because the part about the needles shows that she abused heroin, so it may possibly be about her being abused and she's turning to drugs and anorexia to make the pain go away. He's telling her not to just stick with the fix she's in, but to turn to God
And this song is about a girl being abused as a child and trying to live with that while trying to deal with her life now. I was abused so I know exactly what this song means.....
I ♥ this song so much. Really hits home. One of my favourites :)
i thought that too... well.. i believe it's about a girl and drugs use.. :D.. the lyrics are awesome btw.. loved this song from the very first moment i heard it.. :D... the only way to get out of drugs is God :D
I thought this song was about drugs. Because it says "A fix youll rely on" and "These needles are chains" (like heroin needles). I don't know, just a thought...
I thought the same thing, that it was about someone trying to quit "how can you expect to win this war if you're too afraid to fight" and "when the light starts to burn, when the pain returns" were what got me onto this conclusion, just me though.
The song is about a girl being abused. The main line- 'how do you expect to win this war if you're too afraid to fight'- is encouraging her to keep moving forward. to never give up. At least, that's what I got from it.
sorry about the name lol its my fiances account. But what i got from the song is this girl has been through alot in her life and she is still a young teen, and turned to heroin hence "theres life in your veins, these needles are chains" causing a war in her body that she will not win if she is "too afraid to fight" "dont fix your eyes on a fix you rely on" to me sounds like addiction and a young woman whom is terrified and wants to quit but cant. sorry just thought ide share my view with ya.
@Godfreak1247 I thought it was about a girl and drug use. And "how do you expect to win this war if you're too afriad to fight" meant she's got to fight her drug use. If she's not going to fight, she'll keep using drugs her whole life. Therefore, she'll lose the battle with drugs.
@Godfreak1247 <--This guys got it mostly right. It's about a younger girl, that comes from an abusive background, struggling with addiction, who has found someone that is a beacon of hope.
@Godfreak1247 this is about drug addiction. or at the least, self-inflicted pain. stephen christian is encouraging the "little girl" to empower herself, to get over the "fix she relies upon;" and "when the light starts to burn," to not to be "afraid to fight" because "there's life in your veins."
"these needles are chains to hold you down" everybody. kick the habit, ask for God's mercy, and live well. God bless!
i know its a touchy subject and im sorry to be so straightforward but ive been battling anorexia since 7th grade until a few months ago. I leared not eating makes your metabolism slow wayy down which means more calories store as fat instead of being transferred into energy. Eat mainly fruits and vegetables every four hours, eat a good breakfast. I know its hard, ive been there. If youre interestd in listening to me message me. i can do my best to help you through it.
@SingMe2Sleep963 :) thats awesome. it means allot to me too... i know its not up to me to decide what they wrote it about but to me its about someone struggling with self harm or drug abuse.... thank God for anberlin ay

@Godfreak1247 - Actually, it sounds more like it's about a drug addiction.
"Body betrayed" (putting drugs into the body, messing up it's balance)
"When the light starts to burn" (could possibly be referring to lighting a lighter and heating up a spoon with the drugs on it)
"There's life in your VEINS, these NEEDLES have chains to hold you down." (Pretty obvious with that line)
"Don't fix your eyes on a FIX you rely on.." (People refer to getting high as getting their "fix" and they rely on it.
