I think the terminator doesn't have to worry about people being afraid, people would be too busy admiring its classy ass swagger as it mows down droves of people.
Put your prototype in the ass, 600 % more expensive than Asimo and 20 years later... but the difference here is that you will need 20 more years to at least reach Asimo robot skills and for that time Asimo will be a piece of garbage too.... Assholes...
Asimo doesn't have anywhere near as good of balance and running skills as Boston Dynamics robots. Even BD's robots from 20-30 years ago have better balance and running skills.
Asimo really does suck compared to what else is out there. Try checking out Sony's "QRIO" robot. It holds the record for being the first humanoid robot to actually run (both feet off the ground). And is ages ahead of ASIMO. Sadly Sony cut the project when cutting company costs.
@luisbeck007 yeah.. asimo isn't really that great at balancing itself. I think it's mostly because by using batteries, it's almost impossible to get enough force to make quick moves efficiently. I've heard he fell loads of times even on exhibitions. so...
@SVKmellow Nah it's not to much the batteries as it is ASIMO's major top-heaviness, coupled with just plain bad programming. QRIO used batteries too, but had superior balance and running skills.
@KakkoiiBaka I think the batteries are a factor... because if you want them to last as long as possible you can't let them dissapitate too fast so that they will last longer and therefore you can't use too much power in short bursts like this robot does. Also... I've NEVER seen QRIO or ASIMO get kicked and balace itself out. ASIMO can be pushed (really slowly). Also the big dog does ICE, UNEVEN TERRAIN, SNOW...
@SVKmellow Well yeah when you're comparing boston dynamics robots. But it's not an excuse for ASIMO's poor balance in general on geometrically perfect terrain, like stairs and ramps. There's videos of it falling down just trying to go up a few stairs. Where as QRIO which also runs on a battery, can be seen balancing on a surfboard type thing that is constantly changing from angle to angle. And is in the record books as the first humanoid robot to achieve a full run (both feet off the ground.)
@KakkoiiBaka I'd not give QRIO too much credit... The balancing thing is a simple gyro stunt and you can even see that the algorhytm is very crude, relies on small steps (not derivations) and would not withstand practical application (the robot jerks while balancing itself out). You need at least Linear Diferential Equations to controll movement and balance. The whole thing is just funny... it's like kids playing in the sand. But QRIO is really fast even compared to ASIMO.
@KakkoiiBaka I understand what you mean but still... QRIO's mobility isn't autonomous (and neither is ASIMOS). They just simply shift the center of balance the same way in every step and rely on a perfect surface. The movement is just preprogrammed and would not function on uneven ground.
@SVKmellow No, you aren't understanding what I'm saying. I'm comparing QRIO to ASIMO here, not boston dynamics robots. In terms of humanoid robots who use batteries, ASIMO sucks. QRIO is semi-autonomous. It can balance on a board that's constantly changing angle, reacting to each change. ASIMO's code is too inefficient and poorly written to calculate a reaction fast enough and can barely manage stairs.
@SVKmellow I do believe there are videos of QRIO operating on gravel, and I very much doubt that either machine could walk at all if they were simply using a preprogrammed series of motions. Even on a flat surface machine's such as ASIMO and QRIO must constantly correct for imperfections in the surface, slipping, etc. Additionally ASIMO has demonstrated the capability to "Run" in this case defined as having both feet off the ground at once. This is an inherently unstable process.
@Bustermachine I agree that asimo is quite inefficiently built considering all the investment. I understand what you mean and agree. I just wanted to mention that the video is no longer just a few kids playing in the sand... It's a real solution and that's quite exciting compared to asimo and qrio.
Maybe they'll combine honda's efforts in human interaction with these legs... who knows.
This primitive mechanism shown above in the legs is useless ... To transport waste? China will not buy junk or do you want to sell junk to people in the USA. So 30 million dollars for something that can not walk well for himself ... Make it stop we will see what happens; I already did send you the information bunch of incompetents... So do it well now... Nerds!
As designer and owner of Petman Inc and NWO(New World Order) Inc we are hopeful to have the full body out by Jan. We have over 5000 order by the White House to touch down in Afganistan the only issue is I haven't decided whether or not to add the AI chip that will give the robots the ability to think for themselves with no moral factors. The AI test model killed my 2 engineers and asked if I was the creator of him, I said yes. He then asked if I wanted to rule the world I said not yet
The fact that they've developed a robot that can keep its balance that easily with a stride like that is pretty amazing. I think you're underestimating the role that biological systems play in helping living creatures keep their balance, systems that are not easily duplicated on a robot.

Sony's QRIO was much better than ASIMO in every aspect. And they had much less development time lol. It's sad they killed QRIO though since they were loosing so much money working on side projects like that.
ASIMO is dead compared to the more recent ones from Toyoto also. They have adapted some of the same technology here to their robots.
It can run, jump and crawl and climb stairs. Of course it doesn't make coffee. Do you see a torso or arms on it you stupid fuck. When was the last time your now joke of a country ever contributed or even put anything out there that deals with robotics. Oh that's your kids/chavs are too lazy and too fucking stupid and are sending your little island back to the dark ages. So until your little dump brings something to the table that can do something as simple as turn on a light otherwise STFU fag.

watch Asimo again... he doesn't do the heel toe action... sorry to burst your bubble.
Troyjr 2 years ago
Yup it doesn't
why is it so important?
nurbsenvi 2 years ago
for a couple reasons: basic one being that people simply want to recreate perfect human stride in robots. another is its potential use for amputees.
jaiko86 2 years ago
But it doesnt walk like a pimp.......
iced4life3 2 years ago
I would suggest
1. add pivoting waist joint to move pelvis(which this robot doesn't seem to have)
left and right and also ball socket hip joints for thighs
and lose that weird looking section that links the thigh bone to the body
2. bipedal animals usually keep their feet close to the center line when walking, not far apart as what most people imagine.
people don't walk with their feet shoulder width apart. if they did, their body have to move side to side quite a bit to keep balance
