  • thanks for the video, good luck with your cause!!

thinking of making the leap to barefoot running :)

  • Barefoot sprinting has strained my calve like 6-7 times now...in like 6 or 7 weeks. People need to get with this.

  • So what's the end of 2011 update?? I checked the site and the videos, but I can't see wether or not Tellman made it to LA or what happened.

  • nice video man! Learn more about barefooting at baresociety (dot) com

  • Thanx for posting this stuff I want to learn to learn to run barefoot!!!

  • will barefoot running give me a bigger feet

  • The skin on my toes looks like chewed up corned beef hash.

  • sick beard

  • Shin splints and sore knees are fading away since I started barefoot running... I cant believe I'm actually looking forward to a run - I've always hated it! I cant wait for the skin on the bottom of my feet to catch up though. My soles have become so soft since I stopped bodyboarding and walking around beaches.

  • lol he just runs away.

  • this is suchhhh a good video dude thanks for the clear and easy info!

  • so it toke mankind 1k + years to re learn to run the way nature intended for you to run ._.

  • Wich model is best for running ? I was looking for TrekSport ? Are they good for what i'm doing ?

  • @Sparta09876 Vibram made the Bikila especially for running. I own a pair and they're great! Although, I haven't gotten to run much in them.

  • It would have been nice to hear more about the form.

  • i cant even freakin walk on my driveway barefoot. no way in hell will i run barefoot lol. you have some balls to do that sir, balls to you.

  • His name backwards nosdunk namllet.

  • If you want the teenagers to be homeless, you should probably just raise zero dollars....

  • GOSH!! i w8 till 4:47 to finally see him run and hes not even barefoot i thought he would have nothing on his feet =[ wat a rip off

  • This wasn't even remotely helpful.

  • "Rocks and screws, these things suck!" haha very true!

  • why would someone run barefoot ??

  • @selesafifi thats a dumb question. no other animals need shoes. neither should we

  • @mojomatt176 but after thousands of years of footwear wouldn't our feet get dependent on it. Just a thought.

  • @tbach937 well id seriously debate that humans have been wearing footwear for thousands of years. the footwear that humans used to wear was VERY minimal compared to the high heel, huge foamy Nike's they sell now. The basic barefoot premise is this: run barefoot as evolution intended and the body will work the way it was intended (meaning no injuries and a stronger foot).

  • It's also a good idea to start running on grass trails or in parks and the like to get your feet used to barefoot running without the danger and wear-and-tear of sidewalks and asphalt. We're more designed to run on softer surfaces anyway, but you can work your way towards running on the road from running in the parks.

  • @Flangenimblick we werent designed to run on soft surfaces. it's all about technique. the problem with shoes is that they limit the motion of your foot leaving you with an unnatural heal strike causing pain if you imitate that on a hard surface barefoot. People in africa and other places run thousands of miles barefoot all the time and suffer no injuries what so ever :). the one thing shoe sellers never tell you when they sell you a product is: It's all about technique.

  • @Nunez87 exactly. No one just threw you into a pool and said... Now swim! You have to learn to run correctly. Nice comment

  • @jdgonzal13 that's exactly how I learned to swim

  • @nannyoggrules77 I hope you are a girl because otherwise....

  • @shagy2k5 why would you hope that?

  • Watch out for glass and infection. Try the Branca Sandals.

  • You want to avoid stepping on screws, rocks, glass, dog poop. You can get all the benefits of barefoot running but avoid the cuts and infections if you run the kind of sandal that Jesus and Moses wore. My favorite ones are the Branca Sandals. They don't Keep Stuff Out, but they don't get as stinky and are completely flat. Thanks for the info brother.

  • Loved this video. Your energy is fantastic and inspiring. More videos please!

  • dumbass

  • This guy ever make that 100 million?

  • This is a really great and informative video... I recommend this for anyone who wants to start barefoot running...Like Me!!

  • If I have very flat feet (one more than the other) is it okay to start using minimus type shoes?

  • @HISTO1

Without knowing whether you run with good form or bad, you can always start by running say 5 minutes per day or so.

  • i'm really struggling with knee pain when i jog over 4 miles so i'm looking to try out a bit of barefoot running, so cheers for the info blast :D

  • Had my first knee-pain-free jog today barefoot running!

  • 'its going to take you a couple of months before you're not in utter agony' okaaaaaaaaaaaaay Ill think Ill pass on that.

  • I have low arches and I always thought running barefoot or in the five finger shoes was nuts but I think back to when I was a kid and running barefoot all the time how lightly I used to land on my feet and how I didn't land on my heels and how good it felt. I'm thinking about getting in to barefoot running.

  • Nice video.

  • "Screws and rocks... those things suck!" Heard that.

  • in order to stop overpronation while barefoot running do i need to actively control it?

  • @MrTimothywhite not once you get used to it, which should only take a few weeks at most

  • Great video! I didnt know it was VE-brams. I thought it was VI-bram

  • i just bought some five fingers. i have terrible terrible arches (and i'm only 18) and i'm hoping that this will enable me to build that muscle! because bad shoes are what cause it in the first place. i'm expecting some very sore feet! wish me luck!

  • long hair is like wearing running shoes.. useless weight.. cut it..

  • Good luck:),i'm starting barefoot tommorow!

  • Great video. Really informative. Thanks for posting this.

  • ey holmes... why you biting Forrest Gumps style?

  • What a great cause. keep up the good work dude.

  • wicked beard

  • So my second and third toes (right next to my big toe) are webbed on both feet. How can I use Vibram shoes?

  • @jazzaces294 You cant. Vibram's website has this info on it. Each shoe is designed for each toe to enter it's own pocket; so to speak. They don't make anything for webbed feet and strongly urge one not to try to wear Vibrams if this is the case.

  • @jazzaces294 so cool!! =D Well, u dont need vibram shoes, i cant find it in Brazil, so i started running barefoot last year anyway and dont have any problem at all.

  • @jazzaces294 lol duckman. Guess you should star swimming instaed

  • Great clip--produce more!

  • do these rub against your achilles tendons?

  • lol "these things suck!"

  • U don't need 5-fingers, the skin on your feet will thicken with use

    some things he didn't mention:

) pavement sucks. Try starting on trails. This also makes you more used to stepping on pointy things. Pavement spoils the nerves and also produces a less natural stride.

) try walking on rough ground regularly. I did this for a year before starting running, and I never needed 5-fingers.

) mind your achilles tendons and ankles cause they'll be working a lot different.

  • @kozmon0t Thanks.

  • These shoes gave people like me who have flat feet hope.

  • @tinstarhero i'm so glad to hear that! i just ordered a pair. i have horrible flat feet! and i'm only 18!

  • i stepped on glass running barefoot, then I went and bought some vibram five-fingers

  • what if i got flat foot?

  • i'm afraid to get a vibram cause i have really sweaty feet when i run. can;t really find any "toe socks"?!

  • Just recently bought a pair. I'm not an experienced runner but I can run approx. a 20 minute 5k with normal running shoes on...I can't run more than two miles at 7.5mph, yet. It's def tough to get used to but I can't wait to run my first Marathon in them! haha get a pair!

  • I like running with shoes. Sauconys.

  • i have a horrible posture and everything that comes with that, back, knee, hip pain, you name it. nothing really serious, but the sum of it is annoying me in every day life. but i never thought about changing anything except attempts at some physical training. will give barefoot running, and these shoes in particular a chance soon!

  • has anyone actually got rid of knee/feet pain by running barefoot?

    i might try it.

i want to get back into running. i got tendon problems, so i've been trying to find some cure, with no avail...

  • @mark95427 I had shin splints leading to a stress fracture and stopped running at 29, but have missed it very much. Started bare footing on my treadmill and started adding one to two minutes a day to build up the skin on my feet. I have had not one bit of pain which is very surprising. Look up how to make sandals and you will come across the hauauchi vibram sandals. It took me forty minutes to make them. Great for running and comfortable.

  • yeah try and run barefoot after wearing shoes that have 2 inch thick soles your entire life... youll wreck your feet and fuck up your back

  • @girldecksrsexy Make sure that you take time (short runs, soft substrates, lots of mindfulness of your feet and legs) to adjust to the "new" (probably new to you, anyway) strike pattern. If you heel strike in these shoes, especially on unforgiving substrates like concrete os asphalt, you WILL get stress fractures, plantar fasciitis and joint issues. On the other hand, if you develop good forefoot technique, your stance will save your joints and, these shoes can protect the soles of your feet.

  • Great post, but if your feet were pointing inwards, most likely you were a "supinator" not a "pronator". You may have been wearing the wrong types of shoes this whole time!

  • probably because he cant afford shoes

  • @thorgrimers

    lol.

those "Vibram Fivefingers KSOs" cost 100$

  • @mark95427

No, they are about $80.00 I got them locally for that price. I'd shop around.

  • Great post. Keep up the good work buddy. Best of luck.

  • Ok. Now here it is.

Step 1: Take off your shoes

    Step 2: Run

  • I wore a hole in my Five Fingers, I'm now switching to Newtons :D

  • Hai friends, did you know that your ears are tilted backwards after taking your first steps on bare feet? It's a long story, but 3 year olds' ears, arent tilted backwards that tiny little bit. Point is, that the ear allso houses the 'evenwichtsorgaan' organ of equilibrium, is tilted backwards, making you correct by walking foreover. You just rupture the muscle in your cheeck cavities and your jaw cavities. Letting the frontside of the skul, the frontside of the of the 'fontanelles' line, sink

  • Thanks Tellman! I like the KSOs. I like the idea of running barefoot, and remember when, as a kid, running around in the summer in bare feet, your feet got very tough and "hardened" (ahh! splinters!!) but still, you have my respect for running across the country barefoot.

Look forward to hearing more tips, and your adventures from running across the country. Go!

  • Jesus just told us to run barefoot.

  • @NoseBleedrummer Respect HIS name

  • @Domodeath Your ways don't apply to me. Go troll someone who cares.

  • @Domodeath And the Lord created Domodeath, who for some reason chose to speak like Yoda

  • @jmagkilla Its coming close to qouting Scripture...

  • @Domodeath

    Ok, I'll play along.

Men are weak. The Blood of Numenor is all but spent, its pride and dignity forgotten. It is because of Men the Ring survives. -ELROND, The Lord of the Rings

If god wanted me to listen to him he wouldn't pick the form of some misspelling douche bag on Youtube. I can talk like I'm in old times too: Cast three stones in thy river of glass for man needs to bare strength from within. Good day sire.

  • @NoseBleedrummer fictitious characters cant tell us anything:)

  • @NoseBleedrummer Jesus wasn't real

  • @SeeledadieKiste

Interested in seeing where you back up this info, WITHOUT starting any kind of argument, i just wanna see your source...

  • @SeeledadieKiste read/watch "The Case For Christ". It's a journalist, Lee Strobel, investigating if there is actual evidence for Jesus Christ. Definitely worth the time.

  • @CatalystSports Cool, I'll look into that

  • @CatalystSports I think I watched that on Netflix.

  • I can see how training barefoot a few times a week can help strengthen your bones and tendons, and also teach correct form, but I don't think it's a good idea to race barefoot. I mean how many elite distance runners do you see running barefoot?

  • @viperdude281

Read, Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen

    or just the summary :)

  • great video! very informative and motivating! i'm ready to feel the street beneath my feet!

  • I just started running with my vibram fivefingers, and this guy is right; you need to ease your way into it. my calves are killing me!! I ran faster and longer than I ever did, and I really recommend running barefoot or using fivefingers!

  • "thank you rock?"guy is a fraud, spent way more money than he donated, didn't run very far at all, running isn't supposed to hurt, I have been running barefoot for 3 years now, I run a marathon/50k almost every other weekend, yeah your feet toughen up, but don't bruise them on purpose, slow down to where it's comfortable, and then work your way up

  • Thank you! Just read Born To Run and I'm a convert! Can't wait to get out there and try this with my flat-feet - maybe my arch will come back??!!!

  • great video answered all my questions i was searching other posts couldnt find

  • I want to be like that guy when i grow up!

  • Barefoot running = WIN xD

  • Hi, very helpful. i am brand new to this. i just bought the Bikila and i'm getting used to them slowly. can you do a video dedicated to the proper stepping? you only touched on this in the last 15 seconds of your video. i'm in Los Angeles. do you do workshops? -Brendan

  • @usagemall if you run barefoot for 5 minutes a day your bare feet will guide your technique from their feedback through pain a discomfort. It will develop naturally just start slow and shorten your stride and pay attention to making light impact with the ground. Good luck!

  • Awesome tips to getting started with barefoot running. I personally run with vibrams and have been doing so for a few months now and love it. It does take a while to get used to but once you start feeling great you will never want to stop running!

  • he looks like harry cock

  • I love the outro ROFL! *Later* Runs away.

  • also you are awesome thank you

  • your name would be tellman

  • those are my bare feet...arrggg mate!

  • @biohax I was drinking when i stumble across ur post BAHAHAHA buggers had a dip in fresh water :(

  • It seems like it may be difficult to run down a steep hill while barefoot. I just bought Vibram fivefingers but I don't dare try jog in them much right now. I have a marathon in 2 months and it wouldn't be a good idea to do much of something this radial at this time. In running shoes I naturally land on my forefoot so I think that the I'll adapt quickly to barefoot jogging. It feels good.

  • @gondwanalon Running down a steep hill would almost guarantee hurt ankles. In all shoes, the heel is thicker, so landing on your forefoot would force you to bend your ankle more, otherwise you would hit the heel of THE SHOE. This bigger angle of flex would make the join weaker. In fact, running downhill puts more force on your body since gravity has more effect. Think of E = mgh, m and g stay the same, but h, the height, increases. Therefore more energy, more force. Shoes would cause problems.

  • dood, im going to do this soon. You should join me for my trip soon!

  • Yaay I'm not crazy.

My mom thinks I'm nuts with my dislike for shoes. I like bare feet or the closest i can get to it. (Just saw the 5 finger shoes this year and totally want a pair.)

Glad to know i was getting the landing part of barefoot running right. I'm inspired to go run barefoot now. Thanks you.

  • @Smilie4Him they are on the web for around 50 bucks.

  • @bluedavenger nah they're not. However the fake immitations are.

  • @ad2894 Sorry, i mean 68 bucks then. thats straight from thier site.

  • Yeah only use the VFF's as a last resort(they are an acceptable one) but seriously why the wouldn't you just go barefoot? Suck it up fools.

  • once you start barefoot running, either with minimalist shoes such as VFF or actual barefoot, you will never want to run in shoes again. I no longer have low back pain or knee pain now that I run in my VFFs. Haven't been able to totally go barefoot due to exceedingly hot pavement in Texas. I like my VFF Sprints better than VFF Bikila as the thinner sole is more like barefoot, and the pads on the VFF Bikila seem to cause pressure points on the toe pads.

  • Haha. I thought you were goingto say "A lot of your injuries are going to fall off." xD

  • love this video!!!!

  • lol wtf wht is wrong with ppl these days they need to be taught how to run barefoot?

  • I love your scruffiness!

  • lol lucky for me I've run barefoot since I was a baby! My feet under my toes is nothing but callouses. which..now that i think of it..is kind of gross :-P

  • Five fingers don't train your feet. You don't need them to start barefoot running. You can start with regular shoes and use the barefoot form. This guy sounds like he is trying to promote Five Fingers.

  • Thanks for your advices on barefoot man. I've bought my first FiveFingers and KSO's this week. And I am thrilled with them.

  • And also without injury or cuts or scars.

  • It takes months I did it without pain in only 4 days with stepping in rocks and glass.

  • Great info. Keep up the good work. I love my Vibrams. Just bought a second pair. Wish I could buy stock.

  • Thanks for the post.

  • you also get reflexology at the same time...good for your organs

  • This is awesome man but if u got a haircut it would be even better!!

  • Teenage homelessness?? tell them to go home

  • @trufiend138 LOL!

  • I have to wear heavy crappy orthotics. But now I feel like I can actually do something with my running career. Thank you man.

  • I want to run on the beach!

  • what about hurraches? im in the process of making some

  • RUN FORREST RUN.

  • What about running with socks?

  • I got Vibram KSOs two days ago and absolutely love them. A lot of people say negative things about them, but I doubt they've tried them. I doubt I'll buy regular running shoes again.

  • I was really fired up about getting a pair of KSOs until I actually tried to buy some.

After wading through loads of fake sites I finally discovered that my feet are just too small and they don't make them in my size.

That was quite annoying as I have size 8 feet which are, I am told, the most common male foot size in the UK.

I'm going to stick with bare feet, its a shame I was looking forward to getting some.

  • @asubjectiveopinion

Check out the women's sizes, they make them a bit smaller.

  • Thank you Tellman! I find your video very informative. I ran marathons in the past and now I want to get started again, this time on Vibram's FiveFingers!

  • Awesome! Thank you so much for the advice on how to get started. My podiatrist and chiropractor think I'm nuts, but I guess we'll see! I'm going to order my first pair of VFFs. I'm so excited!! My fat heeled Nikes are going in the back of the closet!

  • Comment removed

  • great video!

  • I really need some advice i have heard that the vibram five fingers lead to stress fractures, i want to hear both sides before i start running barefoot to get faster and get a fracture and end my high school running career and end my chance at a scolarship so please reply with some answers or advice

  • @WhyBeBullet if you overtrain they will. if you slowly build up your millage in them you'll be fine.

  • Dude needs a smiley face shirt ,haha

  • Nicely said, Tellman! Good luck on your barefoot run across America. I'd like to be able to run across the country some day. In the meantime, I'm going to go purchase a pair of VFFs!!!

  • Great video, Tellman! Please do more!

  • would barefoot running help with neruomas between the toes?

  • In the video you say you don't need any money to get started and yet your website is totally focused on selling your training programs. BOO to you.

  • In the video you say you don't need any money to get started and yet your website is totally focused on selling your training programs. BOO to you.

  • i have a mullit as well there comming back

  • Very cool but, won't your feet be absorbing toxins from the pavement?

  • Run Tellman Run!!!!!!!!!!

  • You are awesome! I hope you make 1mil for homeless kids!

  • "Wait. you're SELLING a "training program?" Everywhere I see you on the net you're asking for money. "
