The adapter supports all existing IDE/ATAPI devices such as Iomega Zip, CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM and IDE hard drives, and works with any SATA hard drive from 80GB to 500GB. The USB 2.0 to IDE or SATA Drive adapter can handle all sizes and types of mass storage drives.......
which one is it? Does it only support up to 500gb or does it handle all sizes and types of mass storage devices?
People bring loose hard drives to lan parties and then get together to hook them up? I find that very hard to believe. The LAN party comments in this video series are running a serious deficit in the credibility department.
DUH, lets see you USE it on utube, this crap is obselete, circulating round the world in different brand names all coming from the same place, China. It MIGHT show up when you plug it in but it will crash and burn when you try to write data with it
@lostrodamus what OS? try this > run compmgmt.msc > click on disk management under Storage. Find ext HDD > right click > initialize > format drive (quick)
how many times did u try. some of my drives u have to connect the connections different ways and then it'll work. ive never had a CD/DVD or HDD that didnt work
I don't know about the quality of this particular brand (Cables to Go) but I have (and use regularly) a Sabrent 5in1 USB2.0 Cable to SATA and IDE 1/8"/2.5"/3.5" HDD and 5.25" CD/DVD-RW Drive. I'm a technican in Elkhart, IN that deals with customer backups/transfers several times per week and it's been priceless. ROI satisfied first time I used it.
this is a crap device...... just dont waste ur money in this waste device.... i have tried mine in different systems.... but always the same result...it wont work....
This video is crap, normaly I agree with tigerdirect on this type of stuff but I have to say that this cble is crap. I bought one for an old sata drive to use as a backup for vista and 1 it saw the drive in computer management but it wouldn't start it, something about divice not being ready. And 2 after about 20 mins the drive started to smoke and the power brick got really hot, almost to hot to pick up. Don't waste your money, just buy a drive enclosure and be sure it wil work.
hello i have an acer aspire 5315 and i want to use the internal dvd drive externally.what cables do i need to use the drive externally and connect it to usb port.if u need more info let me know.Thank u
i have a quadcore 6600 and gt 7600 GeForce i need to know because i have a easycap (capturing device for xbox 360 exc) but it need's usb 2.0. If not what do i need to get a usb 2.0
This device is crap!!! Do not waste your money on it. I have tried three drives from three different manufacturers and I keep getting the same malfunction message. The drives work fine when hooked up to a computer source but when using the cables...nothing! 100% CRAP!!!!!
i have theone of these and love it! it is the best usb device i own! i wanna get another so i can connect and swap more drives to my other PC's and hard drives and CD/DVD drives. this would be great for those new intel atom laptops that dont have drives! turn that small laptop into a portable DVD player
there are many different things... i have one, too to put all ide and sata-drives (not only hard drives) at the computer over usb... that adapters are very useful!
WTH? This will be handier than an external drive how? It's actually exactly the same and it will require the same amount of disconnecting/reconnecting at a LAN party. Still have the power and USB cable you'll have to disconnect and reconnect to each computer, so how is it easier? I personally think an external is better because it provides better protection than just having the hard drive out in the open. However, this will come in handy for transferring files from your old hard drive.
External drives are much safer in a nice enclosure - but this cable is for us lazy techs with lots HD's and customers drives that have gone corrupt and need external TLC. :)
I tried one of these adapters and ordered a new hard drive for a portable storage device, but my laptop only sees the drive as a DVD drive and wants me to insert a disk. I believe this is because the new drive is not formatted, but I can't format it if the computer thinks its a DVD! Any ideas? The EIDE drive won't fit in my laptop (even though I expected it to).
Wouldn't it damaged the usb port if continuously used for too long?

wouldn't it damage the ext. HD if u pull the power plug just to turn it off (like power shortage) too many times ?? it just don't seem right ...

One more thing internal hard drives can get damaged easily thats why you buy enclosures so it does what you want and protects it.
