  • Hither come Conan , black haired , sullen eyed , sword in hand...

  • Nice! Not sure about the hair and the k in cimmeria. But it is a nice composition, great video and nice dramatic music.

  • Now THAT'S Conan ! ! !

  • By Crom, I dig it... ;D -rave

  • love it!

  • cool Vid! cheers to all who have been touched by R.E. Howards magic. for anyone who loves howard and are not familiar with some of his other lesser known characters. i highly suggest his books of the pict kings Bran Mak Morn and Cormac mac Art. same mold as conan and great stories.

  • Great idea and effort, but it got hard to hear the voice in the end.

  • dude that sucked, Mako was better

  • Nice vid m8.The voice reminds me of the goblin king played by Tim Curry in Legend.

Love it :)..A true conan fan

  • Fuck this is bad. Terrible voice

  • "But the proudest kingdom of the world was Aquilonia, reigning supreme in the dreaming west. "

Even though it was a shame you didn't have enough models to show a completely accurate depiction of Conan(I think he wore mail most of the time when he was armored) and his world, it was a good job!

  • Exelente!!

  • Great work. wats the name of that epic song?

  • Music is "Kull the Conquerer, Main Theme" by Joel Goldsmith.

Text from "The Phoenix on the Sword" by Robert E. Howard.

  • Great vid man. Hail Conan! From zero, to Hero, from an adventurer to King!

  • thank you son

  • Hm...very nice..I'd watch a series like that...but that arm tricep looked a little emaciated for Conan and his brow looks like my tech guy who's as soft as Conan's fresh mountain dropping,,what program? Keep up great work..

  • Fantastic!!! :)))

  • Very Good!

  • this was well done sir ... I hope you got a job from doing this kind of work.

  • ''Know also, O prince, that in the selfsame days that the Cimmerian did stalk the Hyborian Kingdoms, one of the few swords worthy to cross with his was that of Red Sonja, warrior-woman out of majestic Hyrkania, Forced to flee her homeland because she spurned the advances of a king and slew him instead, she rode west across the Turanian steppes and into the shadowed mists of legendry.''

    -The Nemedian Chronicles

  • The Nemedian Chronicles that were not of Howard's making.

  • I swear cimmerian is said shimmerian not kimerrian.

  • Both pronunciations are technically correct, just as "Massedonian" and "Makedonian" are both correct. It just depends on taste: I went with "K" because then there's nice alliteration with Conan.

  • Ok, never heared anyone say makedonian

  • Macedonians do. Like "Cimmeria", the original pronunciation was with a hard K, but in English it was replaced with a soft c.

  • @taranaich True enough, in Greek (as Dorian Greeks themselves, the Macedonians spoke Greek) it is "Μακεδονία" (Makedonia). :)

  • "Makedonios". That's the original, ancient greek name for the region. "Macedonia" is the anglicized.

  • Greeks do.

  • wow this is how conan movie should start nice dude

  • Something like this would great, though preferably with better effects!

  • cool video too bad you read such an amazing work like a fag

  • Some of the greatest actors in the field happen to be flamboyant homosexuals, so I'll take that as a compliment. :)

  • pwned

  • This was awesome. I think the acting in the narration was a little over the top, though. But everything else was almost perfect. I especially love your design for Hyperborea.

I would think that if there will ever be a Conan tv series, this would be a great opening to it.

  • Thanks evilmick! Yeah, I get the "Brian Blessed" accusations a lot. What's scary is that this was the most understated take I made!

Interesting you should mention the TV series, since this was partly inspired by Ironhand's scripts for a Conan series, where the opening used the same quote from the Nemedian Chronicles. Mine's a tad different though.

  • This is great!

But one thing i have to critize:

Conan´s sword & armor, IMHO it looks too much like european renaissance weaponry.

I always imagined weaponry in conan as having a more archaic look...

  • Thanks cwmyr! The armour isn't my creation, but it's similar to the look of Conan's armour described in "Black Colossus":

"At her command they brought harness to replace Conan's chain-mail - gorget, sollerets, cuirass, pauldrons, jambes, cuisses and sallet... Clad in the plate armor, vizor lifted and dark face shadowed by the black plumes that nodded above his helmet..."

I would like to go back and make my own armour without the Fleur de Lis, make it less strongly medieval.

  • I think Hyboria's armor would be a mixture of Classical and Renaissance( bronze breastplates with mail between them and a lot of plumes)

  • This was awesome, apart from mispronouncing the lands, and saying "Cimmeria" as "Kimmeria".

  • Which lands did I mispronounce?

Both "Simmeria" and "Kimmeria" are acceptable pronunciations, according to the dictionary: ultimately it's a matter of taste, like "Massedonia" or "Makedonia".

I chose Kimmeria for a few reasons: it has the celtic hard-c, linking it to the Gaels; it is closer to the historical Kimmerioi; and to me it has a more barbaric timbre than soft-c Simmeria.

  • WOW! thank you for sharing this, very good work

  • Great work here!

  • Well done, Taranaich. Nice stuff!

  • Thanks!

  • Excellent work! My favorite scene is Conan watching the Tigress float away in flames.

  • Thanks, I'm quite pleased with that, I think that's the emotion I'm most happy with (and the smoke)

  • I agree with you, kevd82! :)

    Best,

    Fernando (The REH Forum)

  • Awsome, Man! Just awsome!

  • Cheers. Cool name, by the way!

  • Wow, that's really awesome. I hope you got an extremely well deserved good grade on that.

  • I did indeed, cheers!

  • Excellent! I love it!

    ~ Spartan198

    (Yep, I'm EVERYWHERE!)

  • Nice to see you Spartan, and thanks!

  • Lol, don't get me wrong, but please redo that for the better, because it had SO MUCH potential, and I hope this was only a sketch or something. Good work though (might want to tone done that serious voice a bit ^^)

  • Ok, I just read now that it was a "school project" you did some while ago :) NVM then, it was really good nonetheless.

  • Yes, this was basically my first 3-d animated project, aside from a few five-second clips for the modules I did back in '05/06.

  • hahaha, just watched it again & that 'gigantic melancholies -giant mirth' scene is great ! Cuts from Conan with a hottie on each arm ( both sporting gigantic 'melancholies' of their own ?) then when it says "gigantic mirth" it cuts to Conan clutching his hilt white-knuckled ! - gigantic mirth !! it made me laugh gigantically ! ( don't take that the wrong way , I'm saying it's the kitties-titties bro !!)

  • I'm immensely pleased you liked the girls, I really felt it necessary to give Conan some fun to go with the melancholies. I would've made it a smidgen longer to allow the viewer to really savour said ladies, but at that point I didn't have enough time.

    Cheers again!

  • FIRST !! YAEAHHHhaahhehehe

Excellent job T. ! I thought the early one waaay back was prety good . It looks better now , if only I wasn't on a damn dial-up modem still it wouldn't be so choppy/stoppy/stuttery arrgh . I seriously envy you man . Send that out to those big fish as your bid for director of the new Conan flick !! I'll be first in line to cheer , & first in line to buy a ticket .

  • Ha, I couldn't wish for a more bombastic "FIRST!" And thanks for the vote of confidence, too!
