I love this song! check out another group that has a video : going to california led zeppelin cover DG I have now listened to a dozen so called "tributes" do this piece and this little garage band has the best version of this song I have heard yet. There is a magic that is hard to copy lots of guy's try and act like Robert but they fall flat when it comes to actually singing RP. Anyway, check it out My two cents............
zeppelin has a song for everything going to sleep, pumping you up, inpire you to do something, really there are endless possiblitys if you think it zeppelin can do it
77 good year I graduated H.S in Boston Catholic Memorial Ted kennedy gave me my diploma and wished me good luck in the Navy 1 iwas a bit drunk and stoned at the time oh so what!
I remember buying the 4 record Destroyer box set at a flea market in NJ when I was a teenager. I couldn't get enough of bootlegs since I never had the opportunity to see them live (was only 10 when they were on their last US tour). Saw Page & Plant numerous times when they were solo.
Does anybody know were Zeppelin played April 25, 1977? Please someone find this is a show I'll never forget. The set list was exactly the same as this shows. I remember seeing Ceasers chariot at Stanford Field. Enough. Peace
the only good thing that ever came out of cleveland in its entire history...the destroyer what a disgrace that this concert was never recorded and released on video. i guess the richfield colliseum couldnt afford cameras back then. after all it was cleveland for christs sakes
First time I heard this me and my freinds were skipping school and smoking a 4 foot glass bong we were " boring" from my freinds dad,I'm pretty sure that was sometime in the late seventy's ,don't remember the exact date
I think Robert unconsiously -or not - imitates Joni's way of sliding into a note...more on the album version than this one. On "How the West Was Won", he even says "Joni!" at the end of the 'she plays guitar and cries and sings' verse. I love that! So many gripe about LZ 'copying'. No way, they're unique - they are just paying respects to the music they love and that inspired them.
Thanks for posting! A Zep acoustic classic and what a great tribute to Joni Mitchell' "To find a queen without a king, they say she plays guitar and cries and sings"
@janeotte I always loved Joni, I know a lot of people thought her music was weak, but I always found her music to be extremely unique and relaxing, I still listen to her often.

Led Zeppelin is a copy cat of the US from Otis, and so on. Just like the pure House music, started in chicago, then went straight to England and became number 1. Stop it people! Although, I might add Led Zeppelin is AWESOME!
i agree......thats the most dumbest thing i ever heard,,,,,,led zeppelin is from england.....omg!!!! they MUST be awesome.......They are awesome, because of who they are.......not the place they came from.......sheesh!!!!
True, the United Kingdom does have many amazing bands like the Beatles, Queen, and Led Zeppelin (my favorite), but one must not forget bands like Guns N' Roses, The Allman Brothers Band, the Grateful Dead, and, of course, Aerosmith. Both countries have phenomenal musical talents, and I think it best not to argue about who's better. Let's just enjoy the music.
i sounds like to me, "well if thats about england, then this is..." referring to the song, "the battle of evermore". that parts in the info.
so, if that tune is about england, then 90% of all interpretations of 'the battle...' being about christianity and/or 'the lord of the rings' are bunk. both songs have john paul on mandolin, bonham is getting a drink break. cheers.
this is one of the truly great songs of all times. absolutely unique, poignant, and beautiful. the first time you hear it, it just works. all respect to the creative talents of led zeppelin.

Also Plant and Page are sporting some nice beards, I didn't think Led Zep could get any better, but their magnificent facial hair just turned my world upside down!
Y are we comparing the stones to zeppelin. As far as im concerned the stones could fall off the face of the earth and I wouldnt notice. The only two bands worth mentioning in the same sentence as zeppelin is The Beatles, and The Eagles! Btw The Eagles are still around, with Walsh. Im seeing them in 3 months in Cleveland ohio...
My friend and I turned down going to the 81' Stones show, because we were more into Rush at the time. His uncle had 2 extra tickets. (Still kick myself for that). We were about 13 at the time.
I will say this -- the musicians sounded pretty tight in what I've seen of the O2 show. But Plant's voice is key to every one of their songs & he hasn't got the range any more (what 59 yr-old could?). IF Robert can hold up the vocals to some standard that doesn't embarass him, I'd sell one of my kidneys to see them play.
I'm 44 & the 4th Zep album is one of the very first albums I remember owning, along with Rush "Farewell to Kings" and the Allman Brothers. I remember the very height of the Stones -- Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main Street, etc. I'm sorry but since about 1995 the Stones have been a cartoon of their former selves.
Yea maybe, I thought the 94' stones show was better than 89' & saw them at the Anaheim Pond around 2000 and that was good, saw 2 mediocre after that in comparison, but you still have to give them credit. Zeps been gone for almost 30yrs, Beatles almost 40. The Stones have been around almost 50 F'In years, with 3 original members. Thats pretty amazing! Guns N Roses & all the other punk ass 80's hair band are already long gone & thats because of a lack of substance. (Primadonna Wimps)
Golden Earing "Radar Love". If they are still around thats news to me. Most ppl wouldnt even know who they are. The Who has been around forever, now with 2 of 4 members gone, but I remember their "Farewell Tour" in 1982, (I was a freshman in HS), and they have only popped in and out since.
Well enjoy your youth, I sure did! Before you know it though, you'll wake up and your 40, like me, with a wife and 2 kids. Its all good though. Peace!
The were the single greatest and most important band in rock, period. But they're not going on tour & frankly I don't want them to. How in the world can a bunch of 60+ year old guys possibly hold up the reputation of Led Zeppelin?? Have you seen what a joke the Stones are these days? Do you want to see Zep make a joke of themselves that way? I don't. I listen to one of my Zep albums every day & I love what Plant is doing with Alison Krauss. But they aren't touring again- accept it.
I dont think the Stones are a joke, and you must be under 40, or most likely under 30, to think that way. I was around for the tail end of the zep era, but started going to the song remains at midnight movies around 81/82' and have been a hard core fan since. I got my fill seeing Robert, & then Page/Plant so I dont really care, but watching 02 Arena footage just after seeing Halen, I thought the 60+ Zep looked/sounded better than the 50+ Halen & if I can run around like Jagger at 65 I will
Also, Page is a perfectionist, he wont do it half ass if he does. If Page was Van Halens guitarist on this last tour, he would of slapped Dave around for sounding like a lounge singer and making somewhat of a mockery out of their kick ass songs. & Let the pudgy kid play bass on a couple shows & then send him home, or dont charge Michael Anthony prices. Personally I think some of the bands can still play and some should just hang it up.
Yeah I'd say '73 was their best tour as well. That's when they became more comfortable on stage and didn't have any of the problems that occurred after '73. Like Plant's car accident and his son passing away...Page's heroin use...etc.
This is just awesome. The early '77 shows are my favorite from that tour because the band was not yet exhausted from travel and drugs. Robert has some of that high voice back which he seems to have lost in '75. This version has that magical touch to it that the '71 and '72 versions had.
