You said to get your first tobaccos in 1 ounce sizes, how many normal size bowls will that fill? This might be a dumb question but I'm new to the hobby.
I bought some Captain Black tonight because it was on sale for almost nothing. I love the way it stays lit and burns cool, but I dislike the flavor and aroma. I cannot describe why. The best I can come up with is to say it smells dank and funky. I would appreciate a recommendation for a relatively inexpensive tobacco that burns like Captain Black, but has taste that is mild, sweet, yet not offensively aromatic?
could you recommend some good brands for pipe tobacco? i live in a small city and the closest thing to a tobacconist is a head shop predominantly for cannabis use. they have 3-8 different pipes depending on when there last shipment was and what they ordered, but tobacco wise there not gonna have much more than what you see at 711.
Does the moisture content/ lack of affect the taste of the tobacco? Should you keep it relatively moist in a humidor or is in a drawer fine like you say? Thanks.
Also i think the music is too loud and kind of distracting to the video, otherwise its great!
Pretty informative video from a level-headed ,contemplative pipe smoker. Unbiased , experienced, and open-minded. Well done my friend. Oh yeah; "If that sax were any quieter or smoother, I'd fall asleep." Looking forward to your other videos to see if I've forgotten my basics on anything......... @daniel1982 Encouraging people to trust their own experiences, think for themselves, and make enjoying the hobby a priority is arrogant? I wonder what you think of name-calling and telling strangers whether you approve of them? LOL.

The information was very helpful but I personally found that the volume level of the jazz that accompanied it often detracted from the video overall. I don't know if all of your videos are like this or if it was an oddity but lowering the volume of the jazz or bringing the microphone closer to you so we get a louder channel for that would help with your clarity. Once again, the video was fine, jazz music aside.
picked up a house blend for my first tobacco cause i thought it was prim o turns out ur right it was not lol. prince albert i picked up was better! love the vid man.
I really would like to finish watching your videos but the audio is really horrible.. especially in PART 3... every time you talk, I hear tapping and clicking. I cant listen any further.. Thanks anyway
i'm not trying to sound like a downer, i'm just curious, would smoking a pipe have fewer health risks than cigarettes? ya know, since you aren't typically inhaling?
My post ran out.. but I just wanted to add that the Carter Hall is very smooth, at least compared to the aromatic, and I'm so glad I bought both blends and not just the aromatic or I'd probably be disapointed. I'm going to save the Black Cherry and use it as a mixer in the future like Eric recommended, it's a little harsh and has that "bite". I can't wait to try the Prince Albert when it's restocked, and even more excited about learning and smoking finer quality blends. Thanks Eric
I watched all of Eric's videos, did a little research on the types of tobaccos, and made a list of things to look for when I went to the shop to purchase my first tobacco. What it came down to was a fairly small amount of choices for me in the small town I live in. The clerk didn't know much about pipe tobacco but showed me the two most popular ones, Prince Albert & Carter Hall, and Prince Albert was sold out. SO.. Carter Hall it was, and I purchased an aromatic also, Paladin Black Cherry.
boring as hell, why dont u SHOW us some tins of tobacco etc... not just talk talk talk pick up some tobacco and show us the different CUTS of tobacco etc..
Hi Eric. Your videos are very informative. I am considering trying pipe smoking. I have ordered a gift set containing a Peterson pipe and zippo pipe lighter to be my starter kit. I recently went to the local discount tobacco store and purchased some Middletons Cherry to try first. I know it is probably low quality, but didn't want to break the bank on tobacco. Do you have any suggestions or comments regarding the materials I have purchased? Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.
I find myself with a bit of a dilema, there is a tobacco shop within a few miles drive of my house which is a pipe smokers heaven, a massive collection of tobaccos, pipes and accesories the only problem is the guy that owns the shop is a complete idiot, he thinks he is really special and a complete snob, he looks down his nose at me and other customers and treats it as if he is doing you a favour selling you what you want and does not want to give advice. It really hurts to give him my money.
I wouldn't spend a penny there then. The people who sell us pipes and tobacco online are no less legitimate or genuine or whatever than the brick and mortar tobacconists. Often they're B&M owners too.
I've found the best selection and prices are online and in many cases the service and superior. There's no need to put up with the service you're getting at your local shop.
I think you are right, Milverton68 mentioned one particular online shop to me so i think i am going to give that a try next time i need get my tobacco etc.
@ElroyHarvey Im in a similar position. The guy you described sounds weirdly similar to the guy who runs the tobacco shop near me. You arent from Scotland are you. A long shot but I doubt their are that many disgruntled tobacco shop owners out there.
Great video. I agree in starting off trying a variety of tobaccos - though I'd suggest steering clear of cheap convenience store packs and fruity blends (they tend to burn hot).
If I had to choose a good starting tobacco, I'd suggest 'Frog Morton on the Town' by McClelland Tobacco Co. due to its smooth, tasty and relatively bite-less smoke and pleasant scent.
again u made the most wise words i have heard abt tobaccos couldnt be more clear and practical,,,there many tobaccos out there and each person taste buds will judge thanks for posting this great vid,,purple moon light i wanna try tht i guess the sell it by tons

we have a few cigar shops and a lot of headshops that sell cigars and tobaccos,

Is it bad to smoke hookah tobacco out of a regular pipe?
greeenonions 2 years ago
No, but it won't stay lit because of how moist hookah is. That's why when you smoke hookah, you are supposed to use charcoal.
