@pyromaneak47 why dont you use cleanex . seriosly when i was in the military service i use them and it feels all right (not like the shower of course) , maybe try it at home first and see if it works ...
I'm glad he at least has a good attitude and says that you are doing the event for yourself and that there is always someone faster than you so just to concentrate on yourself. That's a good attitude.
I loved it!!! Your speaking voice is nice to listen to and you taught a lot in a short time and I have been training with team in training to raise money for cancer and you were right on with what they teach us... I think it was very helpful especially the honesty w the what we need to eat to train and that anyone CAN do it - we just have to do the work. yay God
Are you a coach? You seem to know plenty about training ..... not! Stop giving advice buddy. You have VERY limited knowledge when it comes to training properly.
Can you go into the water with a life vest or something? just in case you get nervous, because i cant float in the water. and my friend said that when he went in the water, there were so many people that they push you down the into the water. so are there any help?
@raining0724 i don't think a life vest will be in your favor..it'll slow you down plus if people push and shove you you won't be able to maneuver away from them properly by swimming under water..also, i don't think life vests are allowed..since it's a competition i think they expect competitors to know how to swim if they're going to swim across a river. But if you drown or are hurt in the water, i think they have lifeguards that can come to ur aid.
no white wine,.or.. PASTA SAUCE. ok im defineltey not cut out for iron man,.. i think i smoke to much weed for it to.... but i love distance running and weight lifting..., and by distance.. i mean like 10 miles max
@213ssbb I would not plan on Kona in the first year you are able too. You have to qualify in a race within your age group. As someone who is in your age group the competition is tough and the gap is large(18-24). Not trying to discourage just keeping it realistic. To quailfy in your age group you better be ready to run a sub 10 race.
@213ssbb good lucky just qualifying is hard, and your age group has lots of competitors..unless you know somebody in the organization who can give you a free slot, like that fat loser from the biggest loser if i remenber correctly his name is Matt and he married one of the women loser in the same show, who participate last year because of his celebrity status bullshit, and walk the whole marathon 26.2 miles...
he is right about pacing yourself though.. i just try to get in meals right after i work out.. nutriton is half of any kind of work out.. steak eggs chicken tuna.. smoothies atleast every other day.. with blue berries.. flax seed.. noodles rice. wheat bread... ...i never completley understood cyclists... i ride my bike for transportatioon but ide rather do the one in the gym its safer.. all it takes is for some drunk idiot in a honda to run me down on a bike..
scronnnyyyyy... that guys close to my size but i would lift weights like i do now.. pack on some meat.,. actually helps me do endurance runs... i would train a lot more than 1.5 hours a day to do iron man
@partyongarth420 being big or bulky with muscle DOES NOT help you do endurance runs. Ever considered why all the great marathon runners at the olympics are skinny and scrawny?
If anyone out there wants to train for any triathlon - don't listen to this fella - his whole outlook on life is completely inconsistent with the spirit of Ironman. "I don't ride my bike on the road in case i hit by a drunk driver" .......get a life you jerk.
i dont know, but there's something wrong about this... at the end yes, there was a video about him crossing the finish line. i presume he's a placer. but looking at him train,, its.. it doesnt line up. i mean, 1, when he runs, he's stooping over. no long distance marathon runners run stooping over, because it will shift the weight forward; also contributing to balance-loss.
another one, look at the bike.i know from the other video that its an OLD bike.but hey, your training with that??the aerodynamic position isnt aerodynamic at all.the bike is too short, the seat is too low,the back is arched.i dont know man,i know your a good triathlete but it doesnt mean that your a finisher in ONE competition, then suddenly your an authority in the sport.i dont know, just dont post videos that makes you look like an amateur when your trying hard to look like a pro.peace.
Hi Jeff, thanks for your videos, Iron Barcelona was an amazing experience, 12.11 not bad being the first one, very tired in T2 and that's probably the reason why marathon didn't unfold at the pace I was expecting, next one will be even better. ciao.
Congrats, that is a great time! Being tired in the marathon is pretty common so don't worry about it too much. You probably learned a tonne of information during training and the race that you can now take into your next Ironman. Best of luck in the future.
Great video, I'm a little more than a ways off from competing in an Ironman challenge. I just ran a little under 5 miles two days ago and I can barely walk. Hoping to get to the level some of you guys are on.
Are you training for South African SF? I am training for US Army SF. There is a book titled "Get Selected" by Major Joe Martin that is full of excellent information about SFAS (special forces assessment and qualification.) I would imagine that the information would be applicable to you as well. Also check out a website professionalsoldiers(dot)com for even more info. The career path you have chosen is professional athlete/soldier. I recomend that you start doing alot of research.
You are going to need to learn how to train your body for power endurance and flexibility, train your mind to learn, train your power of will. Much like your body willpower is built slowly over time. The sooner you start the better. The stronger your body is the less pain you will have to endure mentally. Good luck to you.
P.S. SFAS stands for special forces assessment and selection not qualification as I erroneously wrote earlier.
This is great advice. To go further; if you haven't done so you should set some intermediate goals like half marathon and marathon races. I did two marathons, four half marathons, 2 triathlons and many 10k runs before signing up. I also rode across Asia on my bike but that is another story. The best thing is your body will heal if you do consistent stretching. I would also highly recommend yoga.
Did you have any difficulties when swimming in your wetsuit? I have problems breathing because of the tight fit. My arms also feel heavy and its hard to maintain a cadence. Any tips? Thanks.
Actually I did until I cut the arms off. However I have a piece of crap wetsuit that was meant for body surfing so I wasn't worried about recking the suit. It sounds like your problem has more to do with sizing since you should not have breathing problems! I would say try renting a couple of different sized suits to see if the problem goes away.
Hi Jeff, I am approaching my first Iron (Barcelona Oct.09), have you got any suggestion for nutrition during the race (what to eat, how often, how to carry all this stuff..) ? thanks a lot. Enrico
Ironmans have multiple aid stations, get a map of the race and find out how often they are for each section. They usually give out standard stuff like power bar. Most importantly: test your nutrition during your long training rides and runs. See what happens when you force yourself to eat or drink. Do you have to stop and pee or have upset stomach? Write down what works during training in your log and try to follow it during race day. Me personally if I drink too much early I have to pee.
Thanks for all your advise, started training 4 months ago, doing half Ironman in October and planning for the big one next yearr. I'll keep my eyes open for more vids, please keep them coming.
I didn't know what POSE was until I looked it up, so no I don't knowingly use it. However there are things I do that are used in POSE such as trying to let gravity do the work through a slight lean, high turnover (186 foot strikes per minute), and landing on the mid foot. Having looked at it, I see that there are some good benefits to it and may try to incorporate into my technique. Thanks!
Heya Jeff, thanks for the video, great editing and commentating. I recently quit smoking and after watching my father finish his 25'th ironman (while in his 70's, a year after beating cancer) i decided I wanted to cross the finish with him next year. Am I being unrealistic?
2010 right? Yes you can do it. However a word of caution since I do not know your present conditioning; make sure you are comfortable with some of the distances. For example: if you have never done a marathon then you I suggest you experience one before taking on Ironman. Marathons are mentally tough which is a good precursor to Ironman. Also check out your dad's training schedule to see if you have the time and the desire to follow it. Best wishes.
You are right, marathons are tough - I finished my first one 2 weeks ago. It hurt soo good! I wish I could run one every week to maintain the feeling of smug satisfaction I carry from the achievement. I'm committed to the ironman challenge next march now more than ever. Looking back, I've already been training 7-15hrs/wk over the last 2 months so there maybe hope for me yet :)
Hey great stuff. Ya marathons are hard but sounds like you enjoyed it a bit. It also appears like your well on your way to completing a Ironman. Best wishes.
watch that running form of yours. thats how i ran and it will jack you up. you lean way too far forward, and are too tense. loosen up and pump your arms.
Hey Jeff thanks for inspiring us all here in Youtube. You are such a cool motivator! I hope I could do the Ironman by next year. Any piece of advice especially for me who don't have any time to do the swimming? Thanks a lot for posting this video! Ciao, Romeo : h)
Hi Romeo, there is no way to avoid swimming training especially since it is the most uncomfortable part of the event. If you are not a good swimmer you will have problems in such a long swim. You need to get to the pool at least 3 times a week for about 40 minutes to an hour. There are some pretty good videos to be found on youtube which will help improve your technique.
im assuming you have completed one, what was your time for the event?
