@Metzgermeist ; I took over a convoy of 8 mercs, 4 escorts, on the surface attacks and some submerged. It was my first convoy kill...guess not total though cuz after i killed his three buddies the lead escort high tailed it out of the engagment leaving me to babysit his convoy. I took more hits from the damn mercs than the destroyers. I look back on this video, if that dd had used side can launchers he would have got me off his port side when he passed by.
Thanks a lot for the comment, I will return to making some more movies when I get back to playing the game again. I have been out of work since January, and had to sell my gaming computer to pay bills. I still have the game though and have every intention of returning to silent hunter.
I would love to, but I had to sell my gaming rig after getting laid off from work, have been out of a job since January and money is tighter than US congress right now.
Some day though I will get back to it so I will try to let you know. The game IS worth it though there is a bit of a learning curve. The game requires players to have a bit of patience not found in most games. The gameplay is rewarding though for those who live for the thrill of the chase.
@DocterJones I am now submerged they are in search zig zag pattern ive sunk 8 confirmed kills i have no homing torpes they are using asdic i have my sub at 55 meters completely silent no sound and this is my first war patrol by the way
Im playing Silent Hunter V, Im doing a night attack near the Bay of Biscay On a convoy of 100 merchants ive taken out 3 merchant ships i have a Type VII U-Boot i have 14 torps left my next shot would be angle 60 on the bow ive saved my progress when i come back on should i press on with the attack or finish up? i put 1 fish into each ships hull. any other good places to leave a fish?
@thkristin It really depends, if it is a highly patrolled area, shallow waters, heavy escorted convoy...
In the end, your the captain of that boat and your the only one looking into the scope so your crew isn't going to hate you for firing all torps and only taking a few hits...Do what you feel is effective, best way to learn is to practice, at least here it sounds like a full spread of the 6 fwd tubes would at least hit something. there are too many factors to tell. Try to record the attack
@DocterJones My sub is an old Type VII, not as of yours (Type 18) The water is shallow at 60 meters depth ive moved my sub out of the range of the escorts. Six Corvettes seven HMS Destroyers. my sub has a max depth of 200 meters.I have remained surfaced for the night attack 3 confirmed sinking petroliers. One wounded Merchant ship seperating from the convoy. Im out of 8.8mm deck gun ammunition at the moment, so I cannot use the deck gun they also have two Catalinas that have not seen me yet.
@thkristin How have the escorts not tracked you down after attacking the mercs is beyond me...You must have a Guardian Angle blocking the escorts from detecting you....After attacking did they even initaiate a search pattern? My mind is boggled at the sheer number of escorts though...Most I had to evade at a time was 8, and I NEVER consider attacking in shallow water when escorts are around unless I have them as targets, or homing torpedo's. My hats off to you!
@DocterJones I have nothiing but Spinne torpedoes no homing I just maneuver around at Quarter speed but yes they are doing zig zag search patterns. One Corvette came close but i am now submerged due to the fact that they know I am here. Oh and thank you so much for the help!
I didn't know you could turn the night off? I just figured that day and night are whats there. The trick is hunting in the darkness, for obvious reasons it makes hunting targets more difficult especially without radar.
I use the really big one sitting on the Navigators desk, shows the world but really don't look at the rest cuz we never had the fuel capacity to go anywhere other than patrol zones. I didn't know there were other maps...?
This was the German Campaign, I was on my way to a patrol grid near Madagascar from Shanghii for the first run out with my newly assigned Walther Type XVIII U-Boat when I found this convoy on my hydro. I had to dive deep and run with my turbine cranking out 23kts to get into an ambush position.
You should see when there is a storm at night...Oh yeah, you CAN'T see at night!
It makes it a very large challenge attacking ships in storms period much less at night but I did it once. Attacked a merc with dd escort, put one fish into the dd but had to run after the dd managed to depth charge me, in storms your almost safer on the surface against V&W destroyers...Seem to have superb sonar capability's
I love taking on convoys, in a ten ship convoy I managed to take 7/10 of them down before fleeing because I was low on fuel. Very nice clip. :D
