Great video, I am glad to see you understand a little about propaganda at work. I learned this from long time ago, I am in my late 50’s, how things were turn and twisted so far from the truth (by some leader or media). I since question a lot of things. I seek the untold stories, such as talking to the victims of so call incident.
It's funny how some close-minded idiots look at China as destroying other civilizations culture. In contrast, China has been enriching her neighbours for centuries. China taught other nations how to farm, paint, write, play music, defend themselves during wars, etc. It is pure ignorance to see such contributions as a "threat" to a certain culture.
i have been to Tibet..most tibents dunt mind chinese government at all.... in fact the new generation of tibents get along with the chinese young ppl very well.... would love to go there again..:)
Watch the truth which is not told by CCP. See how good Dalai IVX is at lying.
China is not of country of Han Chinese. In China, the language of Han Chinese is called Hanyu, since there are other languages, too.
The vast majority of Chinese people love Tibet and its culture. And Chinese people are happy to pay more on preserving and DEVELOPING Tibetan culture, just as for the case of culture of Beijing.
This video, and its entire series, distorts the truth. These videos are not indicative of American sentiment of Tibet. These videos are being used by CCP minded people for an agenda based on lies and deceit. I believe all of these statements to be true. It's no secret that the Chinese government sees propaganda as a key weapon in its efforts to battle the movement for Tibetan rights and independence. Their effectiveness all depends on how much you can think for yourselves.
Many foreigners' knowledge about Tibet is learnt from their domestic media. It is unbiased? Finally, some one come to Tibet to see and jundge by themselves and be able to answer this question.
Very clever insertion of Pro-chinese propaganda titbits every now and then, hallmarks of a very tactful government machine. Dont think we are fooled. I am ready to believe this whole trip was in fact arranged by agents of the PRC unless you can prove otherwise
and listen to noted scholar, Dr. Lobsang Sangay who refutes the Chinese government claim that Tibetans are content. Would two tourists know more than him?
Don't just listen to someboby,or your own goverment without your own thoughts,i am a chinese, and i am a normal Tibetan, you know what, most of the normal tibetan hate Dalai,we are just afraid of him,he can decide our lives.
I have listened to pro-china people. One local Chinese I know is really into his Buddhism. But Tibetans should know the truth about Tibet better than anyone. You can see many Tibetans talking in
Dispatches Undercover in Tibet (48 mins, on google video)
But I do not claiming that Dispatches Undercover in Tibet is the full story about what happens in Tibet (as it is only 48 mins long). In the case of the forced resettlements you can look at Dispatches and
which presents the Chinese view about the resettlements and get a very good idea about what is happening. There are many other videos with Tibetans talking which help make a big picture.
Hey,man, you so hate china. But i want to tell you. Most people here like the goverment. They help us,give us money, job and so on.and our lives are improving.without them we will be difficult. We are all free in school.and now a lot of Tibetans are not Buddhists.i can say that what you have said maybe partly right, but we appreciate their help. The politic is not our business. We dont care.
10000 lies that the truth can not be everywhere, just everywhere DALAI to spread the same lies.
China has 56 ethnic groups, in the history of integration in the form of large countries, China's rapid economic development, they fear a strong China, to the British Museum to the Opium War in the robbery was to take back the relics, so they have to auction off as soon as possible .. Ha ha
Nice video, but the volume was too low. I have one question: If the two Americans do not speak Tibetan or Chinese, who added the Chinese translations to the video?
If the anime character or the mangaka doesn't speak english (and anime characters can't edit the video they are in), who added the english translations?
Its a video regarding China, so maybe Chinese people subbed it cuz they wanna watch. DUH!
ariell's been trying rly hard to denounce anyone thinking good of the commies while not knowing that our gov has done so much to provoke the situ in tibet to win its ongoing coldwar. i read a report another living budha wrote that got him into trouble. this one's actually HH dalai's co-ruler in tibet back in the 50s and he said monks were told they culd become living budha by killing han chinese. as usual this agression's a work of cia. no wonder chinese gov gives little credit to westerners.
Hey north, thanks for blocking me from commenting on episode 1. So when you can't just go and delete comments like you did before you choose to block people that disagree with you. Very mature.
Again, you gotta stop that "chance for accusation!" adrenaline rush. I do NOT block anybody from anything. I let people express their views. Oh well, if you can't solve technical difficulties and blame it on me, I'd be fine with it if that make you feel more superior.
Really? You let people express their views?? I think you are conveniently forgetting how you deleted EVERYONE"S comments because you disagreed with what was being said.
For anybody curious about what happened before -- I disabled "comments for this video" before because a lot of people were putting down non-sense. Ariell messaged me to encourage to open it up again, which I did. Now the same person's coming back to accuse me.
North, please do try and be a bit more honest. Yes, you disabled comments, but you also DELETED all the comments that had been posted. And for the record, I''m not accusing you, I'm just stating what happened.
And please note as well, that this was not just some couple that intended to travel to Tibet & were subsequently filmed. D3 Productions actively solicited people with little knowledge of Tibet, and presumably, paid them to travel there. That's just another factor that calls into serious question the objectivity and journalistic integrity of this supposed 'documentary'. The woman, Katy, recalls that she responded to an advertisement on a website calling for Americans who had never been to Tibet
Please also note, these are people who thought "Free Tibet" was the natural thing to do before they visited Tibet themselves. They do have very little knowledge of Tibet, and that's probably exactly why they supported free Tibet in the first place. The film raises the point of "judge for yourself from what you see", not "believe what you hear from others". Go see Tibet! Go see China! You will love it!
north: Oh brother. Here we go again. You are being very naive. The filmmakers wanted someone with little knowledge of Tibet so that they could TELL them what to think by showing them only one side of the story. The very fact that they are being PAID negates any objectivity. The film may pretend to raise the idea that you should 'judge for yourself' but that's completely hypocritical because clearly that is NOT what happened here.
That's a wild accusation. For a documentary, would you recruit someone who has been there? The fact that the two travelers were shocked and changed their view from the mass that the western media has broadcast tells it all!
I don't blame you to be skeptical. But be skeptical with "Tibetans" who desperately want independence too. Because both can be very biased.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
puresports:no it's not a wild accusation. This is from an article about Katy in her Princeton paper: "Walden responded to an advertisement on a website calling for Americans who had never been to Tibet. For Tibet Diary, D3 Productions...wanted to profile two Americans with little knowledge of Tibet". If it was just supposed to be a travelogue, why couldn't they have someone with knowledge of Tibet? They had a clear agenda. And once again, paying someone to go negates any journalistic integrity
Please do a little research before thinking this is an objective film. There is very definitely a hidden political agenda here. The film was directed & produced by Duffy Wang who owns the company that put this together, D3 Productions. He formerly spent years as a director at CCTV AND guess who one of D3's major clients is? Yes, CCTV. Do you think they'd risk losing them as a client? No way. Objective? Not at all. This is just CCTV with an American accent
WOW, I can't believe you saved your own comments from before :-) This is almost the same read.
For everyone else watching, having CCTV as part of the sponsorship (is this even true? maybe you should find out for yourself) does bias the tone of a program, however, to decide immediately that this video is "propaganda" is really judgmental and we all know that's bad. Please, think, then decide on your own. Gather a few thousand $ and fly there yourself. I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised.
So here is my comment back to you --clearly, things that YOU believe strongly in cannot be up for discussion, but only for you to scorn others that have different opinion.
I love internet postings--people think it;s ok to swear, get nasty, etc, rather than to have rational discussions.
Initially, I was replying to the information that was presented with the video, that it was sponsored by the Chinese Govt. Perhaps it is independent, perhaps not. It is interesting and has not deterred me from wanting to visit.
Just to add to the discussion -- unfortunately I have deleted previous comments and my own replies on this topic for various reasons -- if you look up the production team, they are listed as one that "promotes Chinese culture", also, someone brought up the fact that the director is a former employee of CCTV. Nonetheless, I think this program has been made with a lot of sincerity, honesty and openness.
Not only is Duffy Wang a former employee of CCTV, the media company that he owns and which produces this (D3 Producations) counts CCTV as one of their major clients. That is a major conflict of interest
I repeat, this is NOT to promote the idea that Tibet is part of China, instead, it encourages people to visit Tibet itself and see for themselves. It merely raises the question of "Who's telling the truth"?
If we sit on our a** and wait for an unbiased westerner to make a video like this, it may well be another century before that happens.
north: Please didn't go reading into other people's comments. I didn't say the video 'promotes' the idea that Tibet is part of China (??) But the video is CLEARLY intended to promote the idea that Tibetans are happy happy happy because the Chinese have done soooo many nice things for them & therefore the Tibetans have no need for greater independence which is just silly.
OH & if we want westerners to come make an unbiased video of Tibet, we will need China to remove its restrictions!
north: You really must do some research before commenting and you really must read what was actually written instead of re-interpreting what people say. I have travelled to TAR and throughout Amdo. In TAR, where this video was filmed. you are ONLY allowed to enter with a group visa. You cannot enter on your own. You must stick to the group agenda & you are not allowed to just travel around by yourself. You do have some greater freedom in Lhasa however. At the moment, TAR is closed to tourists
Just for your information, the same restrictions apply to Chinese tourists to Canada and US as well. You are only allowed to visit with a group, and you will be heavily investigated if you leave the group without to wander on your own. My cousin who visited a couple years ago was in that situation so I didn't even get to see him.
I don't see you voicing concerns to the Canadian/US government about this.
TAR is close because if any westerner gets killed there, it will be blamed on the Hans.
North, please please stop making comments without knowing facts. That is so untrue it's not even funny. There's NO restriction in Canada that Chinese tourists must travel in a group. None. Maybe your cousin was part of a tour organized by a travel agency & had to stick to an agenda but that's DEFINITELY not something imposed by the Canadian govt. I personally know Chinese who came as individual tourists. If you need info on the visa process check the Embassy of Canada to China site
There is such a restriction. When the Chinese tourists(not government officials. Gov officials and normal tourists hold different passports) arrive in the US or Canada, their passports are taken away by the travel agency to prevent them from leaving the group individually. You can confirm this from Chinese visitor in the NYC, Vegas or Niagara Falls where the most popular places for Chinese visitors.
zoukun: You are confusing 2 issues. What you describe is a restriction imposed by the TRAVEL AGENCY not the GOVERNMENT. There is absolutely NO restriction by the Canadian government that Chinese tourists must come here as part of a group. There is NO restriction by the Canadian government that tourists who decide to travel as a group must stay with their group. Canada does not even have such a thing as a group visa. Again, I invite you to verify the info at the Cdn embassy in China website
In contrast, a group visa is the ONLY way that foreigners can travel to TAR which I can verify for you after having done so myself. In addition, this is a quote directly from the Chinese Embassy in Canada website: "Please note that the Chinese Embassy or Consulate-General does not issue individual visa for tourists to Tibet. All applicants who travel to Tibet need to contact their local travel agency to obtain confirmation for group (more than 5 people) visa. "
Why the agency wanna take their passports away? Is there any pressure from the immigration office or the government of Canada? Who knows. I cant confirm it, you neither. I dont see any reason the travel agencies have to do that. Also when a Chinese citizen applies for tourist visa in China, if s/he cant prove s/he is gonna travel within a group, his/her application is most likely be declined by the immigration office. Does this implies one must travel in group?
zoukun: I have no idea why a travel agency would take their passport away. Because they're responsible for the group? Why don't you find out since you are the one that brought it up in the first place??
You just keep repeating yourself over and over again. Please educate yourself by reading information on the Canadian embassy website or better yet, call and verify the facts for yourself. You do NOT need to travel to Canada in a group. End of story.
Yes you are right the embassy website information DOES NOT say travelers have to be in a group whatsoever. But the FACT is individual traveler is less likely to get the visa, and group travelers' passports are taken away when they arrive in US/CA. I dont care about whatever the embassy says. I respect to the facts.
zoukun:u don't care what the embassy says?! What kind of response is that? Sorry, u are absolutely wrong. I have said it before & will say it again: if passports are being taken away once arriving, it is NOT at the govt's request but at the TRAVEL AGENCY"S request. But you've obviously convinced yourself otherwise. I find it quite amusing (almost) that u complain about lies being spread about China & yet here you are yourself spreading lies about Canada in spite of clear evidence to the contrary
yes and by the way, I fail to see why when you yourself are reading into the meanings of the video, you are accusing me of reading into your comments.
For everybody else out there -- I ask you to be judge for yourself. Decide after you watch :-)
Yes, the video, directly or indirectly, serves the special interest of the Chinese gov't, but then again, the same kind of special interests are on the Free Tibet side.
I try to see to give the situation the benefit of the doubt.
Maybe the happy Tibetans in the video have gotten preferential treatment from China. I'm sure there are poorer places where you won't see the same smiling children, and public billiards tables. If China had more money to spare, maybe all Tibetans would be happier.
This is a continuation of the reply to idriveamini1275:
I can see how people would accuse it as Chinese propaganda. nonetheless, the central theme of the program is NOT to convince other that all Tibetans are living in a paradise. Instead, it promotes active "re"-thinking of the issue on Tibet, and encourages people to visit themselves and see for their own eyes.
north: Yes of course it would be a great idea for people to visit Tibet and see the situation with their own eyes. But you are totally missing the point here!!!!!! How can you say that someone who was actively solicited to go to Tibet, who was paid to go there, who is listed as "talent" (i.e. actors) in the credits AND who was filmed by a production company funded by the CCTV is seeing Tibet with their own eyes??? Wow, that's just very very naive.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Well, they may not be on the Chinese payroll, but if you watch their eyes, it's seems pretty obvious they are reading cue cards. They are listed as 'talent' in the credits as well. Who's paying for them may be up for conjecture, but this entire piece comes across as pretty insincere.
Wow--personal attacks are are so nice--I wanted to switch to an easier user name, but I guess to some that would seem shady.
I admit that I am not in either Tibet nor China--I was commenting strictly on the fact that this piece does not seem like a travelogue, but a promotional piece--they aren't really dissing the Tibetans nor promoting the Chinese government.
-the former skeev
btw-ever had the 'send' button do nothing after hitting it? that's why it went three times. shady buttons...
You know, humans are a very mean spirited race and have been so since the dawn of man--so many people have died in the name of greed, hate, ethnicity, to name a few. The only thing that has changed are the names of the countries. They all rise and all will fall.

Just to add to the discussion -- unfortunately I have deleted previous comments and my own replies on this topic for various reasons -- if you look up the production team, they are listed as one that "promotes Chinese culture", also, someone brought up the fact that the director is a former employee of CCTV. Nonetheless, I think this program has been made with a lot of sincerity, honesty and openness.
northeasternchinese 3 years ago
Not only is Duffy Wang a former employee of CCTV, the media company that he owns and which produces this (D3 Producations) counts CCTV as one of their major clients. That is a major conflict of interest
ariell 3 years ago
Oh good, here we go again :-)
I repeat, this is NOT to promote the idea that Tibet is part of China, instead, it encourages people to visit Tibet itself and see for themselves. It merely raises the question of "Who's telling the truth"?
If we sit on our a** and wait for an unbiased westerner to make a video like this, it may well be another century before that happens.
northeasternchinese 3 years ago
north: Please didn't go reading into other people's comments.
OH & if we want westerners to come make an unbiased video of Tibet, we will need China to remove its restrictions!
ariell 3 years ago
do you know there is a new railway opend to tibet which make the transpotion easier.
4 million people been therr already.
is every pepole are stupid?
jxscl 3 years ago
jxsci: yes i do know about the railway. I've travelled on it. But I don't see what relevance that has here.
ariell 3 years ago
Have you traveled to Tibet yourself? Do you know how easy it is to be a visitor there and videotape as much as you want to?
Of course you are until the delusion that westerners who visit there are escorted with multiple police in a armored truck. *Typical*.
northeasternchinese 3 years ago
north: You really must do some research before commenting and you really must read what was actually written instead of re-interpreting what people say. At the moment, TAR is closed to tourists
ariell 3 years ago
Just for your information, the same restrictions apply to Chinese tourists to Canada and US as well. You are only allowed to visit with a group, and you will be heavily investigated if you leave the group without to wander on your own. My cousin who visited a couple years ago was in that situation so I didn't even get to see him.
I don't see you voicing concerns to the Canadian/US government about this.
TAR is close because if any westerner gets killed there, it will be blamed on the Hans.
northeasternchinese 3 years ago
WHAT??!!!!
If you need info on the visa process check the Embassy of Canada to China site
ariell 3 years ago
There is such a restriction. When the Chinese tourists(not government officials. Gov officials and normal tourists hold different passports) arrive in the US or Canada, their passports are taken away by the travel agency to prevent them from leaving the group individually. You can confirm this from Chinese visitor in the NYC, Vegas or Niagara Falls where the most popular places for Chinese visitors.
zoukun777 3 years ago
zoukun: You are confusing 2 issues. Again, I invite you to verify the info at the Cdn embassy in China website
ariell 3 years ago
In contrast, a group visa is the ONLY way that foreigners can travel to TAR which I can verify for you after having done so myself. In addition, this is a quote directly from the Chinese Embassy in Canada website: "Please note that the Chinese Embassy or Consulate-General does not issue individual visa for tourists to Tibet. All applicants who travel to Tibet need to contact their local travel agency to obtain confirmation for group (more than 5 people) visa. "
ariell 3 years ago
Why the agency wanna take their passports away? Is there any pressure from the immigration office or the government of Canada? Who knows. I cant confirm it, you neither. I dont see any reason the travel agencies have to do that. Also when a Chinese citizen applies for tourist visa in China, if s/he cant prove s/he is gonna travel within a group, his/her application is most likely be declined by the immigration office. Does this implies one must travel in group?
zoukun777 3 years ago
zoukun: I have no idea why a travel agency would take their passport away.
End of story.
ariell 3 years ago
Yes you are right the embassy website information DOES NOT say travelers have to be in a group whatsoever. But the FACT is individual traveler is less likely to get the visa, and group travelers' passports are taken away when they arrive in US/CA. I dont care about whatever the embassy says. I respect to the facts.
zoukun777 3 years ago
zoukun:u don't care what the embassy says?! What kind of response is that? Sorry, u are absolutely wrong. I have said it before & will say it again: if passports are being taken away once arriving, it is NOT at the govt's request but at the TRAVEL AGENCY"S request. But you've obviously convinced yourself otherwise. I find it quite amusing (almost) that u complain about lies being spread about China & yet here you are yourself spreading lies about Canada in spite of clear evidence to the contrary
ariell 3 years ago
Chinese tourists are not allowed to visit Canada yet because they think Chinese are all spies.
braveliu 3 years ago
I'm Canadian and I don't think all Chinese are spies nor do I think Canada has anything worth being hidden from spies.
That comment actually made me laugh out loud. What do you want to steal? the Timbit recipie?
jazztrumpet87 3 years ago 11
yes and by the way, I fail to see why when you yourself are reading into the meanings of the video, you are accusing me of reading into your comments.
For everybody else out there -- I ask you to be judge for yourself. Decide after you watch :-)
northeasternchinese 3 years ago

Instead, it promotes active "re"-thinking of the issue on Tibet, and encourages people to visit themselves and see for their own eyes.
northeasternchinese 3 years ago
north: Yes of course it would be a great idea for people to visit Tibet and see the situation with their own eyes.
BTW, have YOU seen Tibet with your own eyes??
ariell 3 years ago
why you can't just stay another point of view
try to think about deeply for yourself.
a new blank page in your mind and try to do research for yourself.

well, I haven't. But I personally know more than enough people who have. How about you?

Well, they may not be on the Chinese payroll, but if you watch their eyes, it's seems pretty obvious they are reading cue cards. They are listed as 'talent' in the credits as well. Who's paying for them may be up for conjecture, but this entire piece comes across as pretty insincere.
skeevpl17 3 years ago
Anything that you don't believe in will obviously seem shady and insincere.
I find the fact that you posted this comment three times before closing your account very shady and insincere.
asw654 3 years ago 2
Wow--personal attacks are are so nice--I wanted to switch to an easier user name, but I guess to some that would seem shady.
I admit that I am not in either Tibet nor China--I was commenting strictly on the fact that this piece does not seem like a travelogue, but a promotional piece--they aren't really dissing the Tibetans nor promoting the Chinese government.
-the former skeev
btw-ever had the 'send' button do nothing after hitting it? that's why it went three times. shady buttons...
idriveamini1275 3 years ago
Yes, those are reasonable explanations, and I can see now how I would have been mistaken if I explicitly accused you,
but you must admit, my own were reasonable to a degree as well.
asw654 3 years ago
Thank you.
You know, humans are a very mean spirited race and have been so since the dawn of man--so many people have died in the name of greed, hate, ethnicity, to name a few. The only thing that has changed are the names of the countries. They all rise and all will fall.
Sad.
