Supposedly, of the 40,000 students that Ole Miss has, only 2,400 voted on the two new mascots (with Colonel Reb not being one of them.) Due to the epic failure, the school has given up on the vote idea for now and set aside the idea for now. However, the Colonel is still banned from the field.

One idea that is gaining steam is Rally Reb the Phoenix. You can search that name on facebook for a group dedicated to this idea. It honors the Colonel's memory by rising from his ashes, but it represents a rebirth of the university.

being an ole miss student you have to realize the reason we voted to change the mascot. We had the fear if we didn't vote for the change. the board and dan jones would change it without our input. so we decided we would rather chose then that happen

@ewest121 well that is what most people I have talked to have said. And we are a joke in the sec for many other reasons. Like losing to jacksonville state is one. So if standing up for what you believe in makes us a joke then so be it. and we are a joke because people said they wanted ackbar has our mascot.

Former Tennessee Vol here. I love Colonel Reb and it makes me sick as an fan of the SEC, the conference with the most athletics tradition, that the most basic tradition for a great school like Ole Miss cant be recognized. Love to hear that there's a group out there trying to get him back out there.

This was my hometown and I don't remember life without the Colonel. The whole business about changing the mascot is idiotic. Only racists make everything about race - those who started this mess are the racists. Hell while you're at it let's change Ole Miss Rebels to 'Ole Miss Billy Yanks' since 'rebel' is a term used to describe a Confederate regular.

Supposedly, of the 40,000 students that Ole Miss has, only 2,400 voted on the two new mascots (with Colonel Reb not being one of them.) Due to the epic failure, the school has given up on the vote idea for now and set aside the idea for now. However, the Colonel is still banned from the field.

One idea that is gaining steam is Rally Reb the Phoenix. You can search that name on facebook for a group dedicated to this idea. It honors the Colonel's memory by rising from his ashes, but it represents a rebirth of the university.

Ole Miss Fans, My Dad went there and the 79 year old man is torn up over this. i went to Illinois and the chief was stolen from us by a bunch of PC losers. yes I am jewish, but these are parts of the regional society. he is actually one of the least offensive mascots. Idaho Vandals!? A group of people who raped across an entire continent! I guess Notre Dame will be next, the Fighting Irish! Take that were it will, when only 6% vote against some thing, tell them to leave.

Well, I was born in the north.. live in the north.. there's not a damn thing wrong with that mascot. Per usual, it's 'tyranny of the sensitive'. A few 'old rebs' did pretty well at the Battle of New Orleans if I recall.

All during the video, with the exception of a few bars of Dixie, the song played was the so-called "Battle Hymn of the Republic" - a "Yankee" song. Most folks don't know the real story behind it or what it really means; they think it is a Christian hymn but it isn't. Actually, if it WERE, it would have been banned like Colonel Reb! The time has come to stop all the "p.c." lies about Southern history and heritage and for people of ALL colors - North and South - to stand up for the truth.

I traveled from Memphis four or five times during the '03 campaign to help the CRF in any way I could, and it was an honor. Those who claim this decades-old tradition amounts to nothing but a "reminder of slavery," as is often the case, typically overlook their own celebrations of heritage that are absolutely rife with the negative aspects of which they so often accuse us. These asinine contentions against The Colonel simply must be stood against. Keep up the good work.

Thank you guys SO VERY MUCH for what you're doing, perhaps GrantGannon would like to be an Ole Miss Landshark or Sockpuppet or whatever else the hell they'd like to change the Ole Miss Rebels to, but I certainly do not, and I hope that even he in his infinite wisdom would admit that the University making money off of Colonel Reb through merchandise is a double standard. The Colonel will ALWAYS be my mascot, once again thank you so much.
