  • thanks... at least i have a free source of learning Mandarin... I don't need to learn it so I find it hard to spend too much money on classes. At least, your videos helps me learn..

  • Do they pronounce France and Russia in a different tone to that in standard Mandarin? I noticed you pronounced 'fa' in 'faguoren' in the 1st tone (isn't it in the 3rd tone in putonghua). And there was a difference in eguoren.

    The relatives on the father's side come from Shandong, and it took ages for me to get the tones right when I first started learning putonghua (not that I really speak Shandonghua but I was so used to hearing it as a kid).

  • @guiziguizi Faguo: It's not 1st tone or 3rd tone, it's 4th tone. Eguo: 4th tone. Shandong has a divergent dialect. Communicating with people from Shandong is very difficult unless they switch to standard Mandarin.
