Compare to Chen Si Tan and Ng Ah Mui doing the same 42 postures. I wonder if they developed their understanding of the form from schools with other students as well as teachers to study. This man did not connect all the postures into a continuous action--which I call his not understanding the form. The central idea seems to be martial--each strike or block maintaining readiness and poise. Other performers and even some forms make the postures stylized, meaningless gestures, without grace.
Competition forms compiled by the National Sports Committee of China. Correct to say it's a mixture. The player in this video is doing well.
Warning: for this routine, it's not a good idea to hold a low posture. Keep practising like this, you'll get your knees malfunctioning some day in the very near future. (You might have been feeling the pain in your knees all the time.)
I agree with you here :-) His knees will start screaming to ret if he keeps abusing his joint like that. The idea of playing taichi is for health--joint health included! His posture was way too low. Yang Ban Hou's style was very, very low...looked like a monkey :-), I never agree with that LOW posture. It will ruin the knees so quickly. Taichi exercise like that will become a curse not a blessings. But I had to admit, his legs extentions were pretty awsome :-) Good stage performance.
i am practicing this form myself....the school i belong to is sing ong tai chuan yang style....so i would like to know what style yang wu sun or chen?

手意太重,功力未上身。
太極是無手,也就是手不能自動。
看來他的老師是沒把心訣給他,只教架子。
手意重,這就是走上了外家拳的路了,
就算你打的是內家拳的架子,行家也只當你打的是外家拳。
