I think Josh said it all when he says, "do you need me in this conversation or are you okay on your own?" I didn't like Amy's attitude toward him. Not sure they were really compatible. They were good at debating but it seemed like they (Josh in particular) had to work too hard for it. I don't know, maybe it's just me....
Why does everyone post the Amy was unwilling to give up her ambition while Josh was exactly the same? No compromise 'Every serious democrat is going to unite under this president.........i beat you'. I'd hate to think that these comments are implying that it's a female job to compromise with the man's ambitions. I'd loved them together that was the real romantic chemistry.
There were a lot of good things about Amy. But Amy could never see past her own ambitions. She would never compromise her political desires to be with Josh. If they ever found themselves on the opposite side of an issue, it would tear them apart. Amy new Josh as a girlfriend passing in the night. Donna knew Josh as a wife. It was always Donna. Donna had a deeper bond to Josh than Amy ever had.
I really believe had Amy and Josh been able to separate the contentious parts of their jobs from their relationship, then it could have worked. However, Amy had "tunnel-vision" and wrecked those chances.
great actress, excellent writing, the finest show since MASH, and edgy? yeah. Balls? Hell yeah. Women should have balls and brains like this.. If a woman is intelligent and assertive, she's a bitch. If a man is, he's to be taken seriously, more seriously than a woman. I love the way Josh makes himself look like an idiot.
As a female and a feminist, I still hated Amy. She WAS a bitch, and it has nothing to do with being intelligent and assertive. CJ was strong, intelligent and assertive too, but on the other hand, she was definitely not a bitch. Just as men who are intelligent and assertive can be jerks or great guys, women who are intelligent and assertive can be bitches or great women. I'll thank you to not characterize women so narrowly and shallowly.
"drying" in the military?...ok...I never said you weren't allowed to say what you want, just that your position is a tad rigid and absolutist. I can say that too.
If I remember correctly Josh was still very interested in Joey Lucas until this point. She disappeared out of the picture pretty quickly after he met Amy.
Amy was a good match for Josh in many ways, but he and Donna were somehow meant to be together, You know that from their very first scene together.
I wish Josh had ended up with amy instead of Donna. It's not that I don't like Donna but Josh has always seemed like a player and for him to end up with his blonde long legged assistant seems like to much of a fantasy. I did like donna as a character though.
I really believe that. She was an irritating character for most people, the cliche obnoxious feminist. As far as Josh's love interests go, I think I even preferred Mandy.
> She was an irritating character for most people,
> the cliche obnoxious feminist.
She was not a feminist and there was no 'cliche' [sic] in the character she played in Weeds nor in most of the others in more than three dozen other appearances--the same facial expression, voice and manner of talking were no less irritating.
Not to mention that feminist or no feminist, anyone who behaved like that in real life would be as annoying.
Um....I'm not talking about Mary Louise Parker. I'm talking about Amy Gardner, who WAS, in fact, a feminist. I can't even tell what side you're on. Did you dislike her as well? Clearly you dislike her acting, which I have no problem with. I think her character is incredibly PRICKLY and I don't find her compelling in the slightest, mostly because she acts like women's issues are the ONLY issues. But then again, she is a lobbyist.
B: the fictional Amy Gardner character in the West Wing played by the real-life Mary-Louise Parker?
II
There are countless actors/actresses with the same facial expression, voice and mannerisms wherever they appear, but nonetheless fit perfectly the [limited range of] characters they are hired to play--in which case they perform the respective jobs well.
(Albeit it remains a fact that they have extremely limited talents, and that there are many more versatile alternatives.)
III
AG/MLP is such a type--and considering the fact that her facial expression, voice and manner of speaking aren't that different off the set, she is as attractive to those who like the type, and as annoying to everyone else.
IV
The my-issue-is-the-only-issue type, whether fictional or real, is annoying to many not obsessed by the same issue.
In the West Wing, as in real life, those belonging to the type in IV end up persuading very few, thus are met with extremely-limited actual success as lobbyists/advocates.
I'm fairly certain that every female character on 'The West Wing' was a feminist in one way or another. All it means is that you think women are equal to men.
(Everyone comment towards me on this video has been confrontational. Kind of like Amy, haha.)
lol I'm pretty sure all women are feminist some just take it to another level and theres nothing wrong with either side. As an american I would hope everyone thought women were equal they should be I have yet to see a woman who couldnt do something a man could. I've seen some things women dont want to do or things that scare or men are feel are beneth them but little a woman can't do. Dont know why everyone is so afraid of a woman.
Much as i like Ms. Parker, I've always hated that character. And to spaceyrules, what show were you watching? I couldn't stand that pairing but even I could see it.

this is exactly like me with women...the only difference is that he actually gets a GF at some point and I never have been in a relationship.

Amy's wrong. That is the fun part! That whole playfully antagonistic/witty banter/flirty/foreplay stuff is the. best. part.

Amy was to edgy for Josh, she was really just Josh in drag. Donna, she made up for what Josh lacked...

Nothing personal against Donna, but Amy is way hotter and far more intellectually challenging. I always thought she was a much better fit for Josh.

Pardon my puzzlement, but are you referring to

or
B: the fictional Amy Gardner character in the West Wing played by the real-life Mary-Louise Parker?
