  • Interesting, that being said, I'm so glad the song came as it did and not like this.

  • whatever happened later doesn't matter. The album is a masterpiece. A shame how screwed up things became. Croz's first solo album and his first with Graham are also out of this world great.

  • Ahhh! Cartoon album cover - superb!

  • IMO better without bass/drum tack... it doesn't lay back enough. The guitar has all the rhythm it needs!

  • freakin incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this version rocks. thanks

  • They just rock no matter how you put it!!!

  • I love to throw this record on the turntable and chill out

  • the sound of their guitarwork. pioineering

  • wow, what a chestnut!

  • This is the best version hands down IMO.

  • Can't stop listening to this !

  • imo csn at their very best.

  • what an amazing find, epic....

  • interesting, but i think they made the right decision to leave the percussion out for the release.

  • I'm like newhomerambler. I was 16 when it came out and still enjoy listening to it. Hell, I'm just glad to be on this side of the grass...

    Life's grand!

  • I agree, the drums don't really add much to the song. But I'm spoiled on the original.

  • This old fart was so lucky, to be there that year, when it came out! (maybe '70 or so), Definitely put a different twist on what had come before. And they are still going!

  • Have never heard this version..wow..awesome post..thank you SO much...love it..will never forget the first time I heard this album many moons ago..

  • Don't like it. The drums add an obtrusive rhythm the original didn't have, makes it more pop-ish than it was on the release. IMO they were right to remove the drums & bass. It just doesn't float this way.

  • @mujerado I agree 100%. When I read the description, I thought this was just going to be a studio edit of the version we all know. Actually, this version is a bit faster, the harmonies don't come across as well, and you can barely hear Crosby's most beautiful warbling on "shall be free." I also prefer the original, which I think of as a sad and haunting memory of a past love. Still, it's always cool to hear an unreleased version, so props to steelyglenn.

  • Yes, Wardell, that was Dallas Taylor on the back.

  • Like, dude, the picture changed. Duuuuuuuuuude . . . ..

  • I don't know where you found this, but I LOVE it!!!! Thanks a whole bunch.

  • @ChicagoKid5 Yer welcome, Kid! :)

  • @steelyglenn Why would they remove the drums? I like it! Thanks!

  • @ChicagoKid5 It can be found on a triple CD outtakes of CSN containing lot's of alternate versions of their songs

  • @jipes Can you tell me where I can find such a CD?

  • @ChicagoKid5 on Amazon for example

    amazon.com/Crosby-Stills-Nash/dp/B000002IS6/ref=sr_1_24?ie=UTF8&qid=1330856542&sr=8-24

  • And a funny habit of removing their drummer from the album cover after he pissed them off...

Another nice upload, freng. As far as "Carry On" - are you referring to the Stills "remix"? I thought those were later overdubs... I'm pretty sure there's a version of The Lee Shore with drums as well. On Studio Archives 1969 or the Aurora Borealis sampler, I can't remember.

  • @WardellGrayDotOrg Wasn't he the one looking out the window on another cover or on the back?
