My rant about smoking being the "cure" to Ulcerative Colitis

There is a genetic component to UC. Studies are finding that gene defects cause lack of integrity of the intestinal lining. So should a cure be made, it would be through gene therapy.

i don't understand why anyone would even consider smoking as a cure.

i'm sorry lostdragon... i know how hard it is to live with UC cause ive had it since i was ten. but you are very very mistaken.

I was diagnosed with UC around 3 years ago. I went from being a healthy normal guy, to having my life completely destroyed by the disease, and subsequently the steroid based treatment (which barely suppressed the disease).

Out of sheer desperation I took up smoking a year ago and within weeks all my symptoms disappeared.

I fully understand the risks of smoking, but I'd trade a shorter life I can actually live to the full rather than being virtually crippled by UC.

But each to their own.
