i can understand gary numans' issue with his older works. I think he knows that his older stuff was more successful and probably sounded much better. Although he seems like the kind of guy to want to always be progressing musically. I get that. Stasis can be a musicians worst enemy. I also believe that he was been in an experimental phase for the last I don't know decade and a half, which I think is too long. Rather than trying to "reinvent the wheel" he should go back to his roots
Poor Gary ref his old songs, but he's not alone. I'm sure all popular bands/artists such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who etc find for some reason people mostly only want to hear the old ones and it's hard for any new music to have the same cred/popularity.
@HawK047 Graham Norton is a pathetic and not funny queer cunt.He takes the piss out of people with far more talent than he, a pathetic little poof, will ever have.
i had the pleasure of meeting gary numan at badminton air show when i was 15. I was introduced to him by his no 1 fan nigel brain, sat in his caravan having a cup of tea with gary & his mum. i had the privilege of meeting gary numan at badminton air day when i was about 15, he was flying his plane there, i sat in his caravan with him, his mum and my mate, nigel brain, his number 1 fan, i cant remember saying much, as i was completely star struck, but remember that he was a bloody top bloke, his mum made us a cup of tea and i sat with one of my heros having a cuppa......mint,.....he signed our arms and off we went...how cool?..legend of electronic music
@Zephyesa There not crossing the line, he knows what hes probably going to be asked and told. Thats how most interviews work and if your not English then this is English comedy we can take any jokes.
@Zephyesa You fucking call us cowards you piece of shit. Its called a joke, its not a insult. Getting a fucking sense of humour you sad cunt. and mate if the english are cowards how come we had the largest empire.
@OfficialCable Also I really enjoy humourous stuff like Fawlty Towers, Monty Python, Little Britain, Family Guy, Dave Chapelle, Saturday Night Live, and movies featuring the likes of Steve Carrel, Will Ferrel and Jim Carrey in them. Gee does this mean Ive got a sense of humour now?
Your "get a sense of humour" doesnt make any sense now does it?
@Zephyesa And my sense of humour does make fucking sense. if you think these are insults you need to get a fucking sense of humour you dumb fuck, and learn that a comedian tells fucking jokes not insults your arrogant prick.
@OfficialCable there you go again wityh the 'you need to get asense of humour' its like your mushed up excuse for a brain has some kind of recording device in it that just spits out the same answers without any thought, see my last post again and all the comedians and funy shit I like, how could I like all them and not have a sense of humour you dim fucking twat!
@Zephyesa Oh my fucking god are you stupid, how can you see this as a fucking insult to Numan. they are fucking jokes, and make people laugh. And i would personally say you dont have a sense of humour if you cant tell the difference between petty insults and jokes.
@OfficialCable you must be dumb, I can tell the difference, and you obviously think they are the same thing, you keep saying like a moron I dont have a sense of humour so just to repeat from before for you cause your so THICK!!!!
"Also I really enjoy humourous stuff like Fawlty Towers, Monty Python, Little Britain, Family Guy, Dave Chapelle, Saturday Night Live, and movies featuring the likes of Steve Carrel, Will Ferrel and Jim Carrey in them. Gee does this mean Ive got a sense of humour now?"
@OfficialCable hohoho looks like I really hit a sore point there, truth hurts eh english er man? And your empires gone mate, gone for nearly a century now, because the brave men who made it so, are no longer much around with you, thats why you lost it.
Also you seem to think you can insult anyone about anything with liberty at will, and then accuse them of lacking humour if they take the slightest offence, you are indeed a true coward.
@Zephyesa Indeed a true coward. what the fuck are you on about mate, How am i a coward. Your a fucking idiot, your think a comedian interveiwer that is famous for ripping into people is a bad person, and you also think Gary Numan would take offence to these. There fucking jokes not insults. Accept that and fuck off you stupid dick.
@OfficialCable yeah yeah everything is a joke, your a shitstain mate, you got no boundarys, no morals no fucking idea, and you are the kind that goes whining to the cops when someone has enough of your putrid rude mouth and puts their fist through your dumb face.
We dont have to accept anything from brainless fucktards like you, who think they can say and do anything they want, and then has a big cry when someone tells them to shut the fuck up.
apparetly rowan attkinson did a comedy skit about Gary Numan which was on not the nine oclock news. does anyone know where i can find this skit becasue i cant
A man with a heart of gold :):)so many happy memories from my younger years growing up listening to his music.Hope he keeps going till the very end ;);):):)
A) I didn't know he (Numan) was straight. B) I thought he was dead! C) He was only 21 or so when he released Cars? WOW! Lol. I thought he was like 30. Lol. x
It's funny him talking about not revisiting his old stuff, and now he is touring playing the whole of the Pleasure Principle,i' m going to see him play in Sydney in May.I'm glad he changed his views on the old stuff,it's brilliant
Numan's stuff sounds freaking awesome again. The guy is just incredible. He really lived the pop star life, and was so down to earth about it. God love the guy!
I love Gary- he's one of my pop idols (you know there's a but coming), BUT I'll never understand it when musicians downplay their older stuff. The song Cars (& The Pleasure Principle) made him a world wide star, and he goes on as if the music is boring and worthless to him..... (forever scratching my head)
@GPWS339 I see your point, but I actually didn't take it that way. I don't think he meant he was ashamed of it, he just didn't want to continue to trade off it and be defined by it. He might perform his old material in his own show, for example, but to be part of a tribute tour would ignore the other music created, even if it wasn't successful. I could be wrong though...
@GPWS339 yeah, a number of his older works are bad, but he must not hate them that much if he plays them live, hes always been critical about his work though, but i dont think thats a bad thing. I remember reading how much he disliked ALOT of his 80's material
That Norton dudette is another example of how the BBC went from the Best Broadcasting Company in the world,to the Bummer Broadcasting Co. Which these days is overrun by homosexuals, hooligan managers, and cooks with eating disorders.
Nuthin wrong with gays mind, just in the right measures.
I used to be the night shift security guard at shepperton studios and one night he was playing on H stage and it was great to hear his music really loud I still love his music and I am now in my 50s.
@t8283287 Gary appears to be the kind of guy it'd be cool to hang out with, even if he wasn't a famous musician. He's big into cars and flying, and is really quite personable and friendly to everyone (even to my buddy, who didn't recognize him at first). It was still tough not to be starstruck, I have been a fan of his for so long; but I was very impressed by how nice he was to his fans. The man is a legend, pure and simple!
I was lucky enough to meet Gary before a concert in Frankfurt, Germany in the late 90s. He is an extremely friendly and likable guy, and quite different from his stage persona. I've been a fan for over 30 years, and will continue to be one until my final days...
@majormadmax kind words there mate, i live in hope that i may too meet my idol, was supposed to be going to a concert tonight but its been cancelled, still never mind, keep on rocking Gazza.
@TwelveBridges Why does everyone think he's got Aspergers or some kind of emotional problem...Maybe he's just out of his comfort zone on a chat show like this...Not everyone's got the sharp wit of Graham Norton.
@kspillers2 So he's the only guy in the whole world to have A LOT more hair in his 50's than in his 20's? It just grew back? Share your secret Gary, millions await! Or, it's a wig.
@emzii92 i think sometimes it is lack of confidence that drives people on to excel, he seems really nice and modest, seems a real nice guy , no over inflated ego.
i saw gary numan live. and anout 2 hours be4 we went into tha concert we wea sat outside a cafe and he walked past us like honestly 1m away. it was awsum!
I saw him live earlier this year...he was crap. I loved his old stuff but his new stuff was aweful. Looked like & tried to sound like Billy Idol with black hair. Even when he played old stuff it was rubbish. Worst concert ever
Cars has been on my mp3 player for the past 3 years, sorry Gary you may not like it anymore but I'll always love that tune. Your music influenced a generation like Bowie did before you, you'd better get used to it, you are now officially a LEGEND.
I remember buying the 2cd Replicas/The Plan set as an import at 2nd Ave here in Portland Oregon. It was 93, a few years before he was "hip" again in America. Listened to it every morning with my sibs on our way to school. Did covers of "Me! I Disconnect from You" and "Oh! Didn't I Say" in my band. (Love how he puts punctuation in his song titles). Taped those albums for a lotta people. Like early Ultravox, Japan, Roxy . . .still sounds futuristic today.
Yes what a great person. I have always followed this gentleman and I think the best part is how down to earth he is !! I have to admit being in america and watching this I can clearly see how uptight we are here...it seems so much more open there and relaxed with things. You must just laugh at us here.
For the record, Gary had a hair transplant back in around 1983 by the same people who sorted out frank Sinatra and was quite open about it, apart from the funny hats.
@THALIDO Man aspergers is the best thing ever!!! i see it as more of an ability than a disability. A lot of people with aspergers are extreemely creative and highly inteligent too!!!
@RasOrville thnx, i got asperger:-P i happen to be making industrial/darkwave music too lol and i'm an atheist..damn are all aspergers the same?replica's? :-P
Aww he's all chill and self-deprecating. I'm still rather sore that I wasn't 21 to see him last time he came to Colorado, but I reserve solid hope for future shows now that I'm of age. I've seen Kraftwerk, Afrikaa Bambaataa, and Numan would make a lovely jewel to add to the crown.
What a great interview - pity it stopped short! I have met Gary twice and has always been friendly and signed whatever I thrust at him! The Aspergers seems to have taken a back seat, which I think is down to the love and support from Gemma and the rest of his family. And all you folk out there with nasty and negative comments about Graham Norton -grow up and stop being so negative about people you don't know!
A pity the interview ended abruptly in this video. I wish I saw more of this. I wonder what other funny surprises Graham Norton had in his drawer for Gary Numan.
Legend!!

Lovely bloke.

Yes what a great person. I have always followed this gentleman and I think the best part is how down to earth he is !! I have to admit being in america and watching this I can clearly see how uptight we are here...it seems so much more open there and relaxed with things. You must just laugh at us here.
italianman2112 2 years ago 2
All this angry debate over whether or not he happens to have hair in his old age? It doesn't even matter. He is a good artist either way.
Ravewolf24 2 years ago
hes obviously brilliant, and I appreciate his request that music be allowed to progress and evolve. He's got a lovely smile.

For the record, Gary had a hair transplant back in around 1983 by the same people who sorted out frank Sinatra and was quite open about it, apart from the funny hats.

THALIDO 2 years ago 40
absolutely they can. its just a bit of a commuication difficulty they have thats all. he seems really nice dosnt he.
bladebart 2 years ago 3
@THALIDO Man aspergers is the best thing ever!!! i see it as more of an ability than a disability. A lot of people with aspergers are extreemely creative and highly inteligent too!!!
RasOrville 1 year ago
@RasOrville thnx, i got asperger:-P i happen to be making industrial/darkwave music too lol and i'm an atheist..damn are all aspergers the same?replica's? :-P
nederwiet1 1 year ago
@nederwiet1 No coz I'm a Rasta. lol. But I suppose we're all very similar in a lot of ways!
RasOrville 1 year ago
@nederwiet1 I suppose these similarities are what define us tho. I wonder if lovin synthesizers could be a symptom which is yet to be doccumented?
RasOrville 1 year ago
@nederwiet1 I'm a very quite shy guy like Gary, would that mean that i suffer from Asperger?

@THALIDO Is Gary an Asperger?

Lol, he said he'd never do a comeback tour - and I'm going to see him do the Pleasure Principle tomorrow night!!
loradoll 2 years ago
He was at the Fox theater which is almost always 21+.
LittleEmoDancer 2 years ago
Aww he's all chill and self-deprecating. I'm still rather sore that I wasn't 21 to see him last time he came to Colorado, but I reserve solid hope for future shows now that I'm of age. I've seen Kraftwerk, Afrikaa Bambaataa, and Numan would make a lovely jewel to add to the crown.
LittleEmoDancer 2 years ago
wow 21?? when he gigs in the UK its 14+ to most shows xD,
I'll have vids of his gig in my town tomorrow =3

Gary numan is beyond this.

Wow! I always thought that Gary Numan was gay (as some of his songs suggest). Apparently, he's got a wife. He seems like a good guy.
bodysurfer336699 2 years ago
Numan is cooler than GOD. and his mum Beryl Too!
Gary we love you and everything about you!
xyaqua 2 years ago
A pity the interview ended abruptly in this video. I wish I saw more of this. I wonder what other funny surprises Graham Norton had in his drawer for Gary Numan.
