THANK YOU for this valuable information.I hope that it will help my daughter who is a veteran of the war in Iraq and is suffering very intensely from it now.
It's not just from combat. Abuse of all types can cause PTSD and other disorders. Military training in and of itself is enough to cause severe emotional and psychological problems in many.
A recent scientific study showed that women are far more susceptible to PTSD than men. With the increase of exposure to wartime combat and growing domestic violence, the need for addressing the psychological and cognitive issues that result is greater than ever.
Although My traumas are as a civillian many of the symptoms and causes are similer to my traumas.
It's 49 years now sinse I had my first trauma. there have been many more. I was only diognosed 4 years ago. Health professionals refuse to let me talk about my past. They say it would be to traumatic for me. I am kind of permanently suicidal may be that's because no one will let me talk away the pain????. Just why do they let me live in isolation with such desperate thoughts. With care
Medications help, I teake Trazodone at bedtime. It helps me get a deep sleep and keeps me anxiety free, Between good sleep and less anxiety I am able to function better. However, I have alot of therapy in my past. Was diagnosed in 1990
I have been traumatized with ongoing physical pain from it I am diagnosed as PTSD yet my ongoing therapist says she doesnt want to talk about my trauma......ya think I need a new therapist? Instead they want to use therapy flashing lites at me and I have epilepsy that will cause TC at nite time.
Does it has a medicine and is it like a normal illness cause my sister has it and you got to show us a medicine cause i swear i am VERY scared nowadays please please please help us me and my family
Is it possible to train just one wave group, say theta and allow the other brain waves to stay put. I will ask my trainer this anyway, just recently started nfb couple months ago, doing really well but theta is still proportionately much higher than the rest. I have a TBI and apparently this is common. It makes a lot of sence to get everything tidy and then exclusively train the theta to get down to the rest of the group. Would love to know if that is doable. Thanks
Meditation has helped me too, but I am still weary of systems that sell it through propaganda. Meditation is a very simple practice and can be done on your own. If you need help with it, please get your brain checked.
What is CBT? I have just been diagnosed with CPTSD and am doing stage one work with Sandtray, as the emdr is too in depth and dfficult for me to deal with.
Is there any kind of specific meditation that you would suggest?
When the adrenal gland is aroused the frontal lobe of the brain is activated. Too much living in an adrenaline-rush-mindset can result in problems with emotions and memory. I'm not talking about say going skydiving and rock-climbing. Our brains are organs, and produce adrenaline for a reason. Like meditation, it is not bad in moderation. Because emotions and memory are both controlled at the base of the brain, working to regain memory after trauma can help with mental stability.
I think quite the contrary - the medical "establishment" doesn't WANT something like this - a basically simple training of the mind - to become mainstream. It would cost them billions of dollars. Read some of the comments that were made further down the list by others who have actually experienced firsthand what neurofeedback did for them. Speaking for myself, I don't have any major disorders, but it truly has made me a happier person, and a better disc golfer!
I think there is a lot to be said for EEG - I've been looking into it and from what I can gather it would seem if a person can learn to control their brain waves that in turn can help control aspects of the brain perviously uncontrolable. The process is not dissimilar to meditation.
Meditation has been shown to result in chronic fatigue syndrome if practiced extensively through adolescense, many people have developed vulnerability to panic attacts and sucidal actions/thoughts after meditation camps. 90% of the time it isn't harmful at all; however, what turns it in that direction is a mindset of excessive preoccupation, not unlike that of EEG "practitioners." Also, it is not possible to control one's brain waves. It is helpful however to know what does.
think it's a crock. merck trying to make a killing on ptsd. just another war profiteer. i hear they're actually drugging ptsd symptoms in theater rather than getting soldiers out for treatment.
shameful. you're watching a cunning promotion from big pharma & eeg mfgs, wrapping their wares in fancy terminology & saying absolutely NOTHING new about ptsd. poor soldiers are unwitting shills.
My daughter is currently undergoing Neurofeedback treatments for ADD and I am TRILLED!!! She is not on any drugs and is learning how to stay focused in busy situations.
I am going through PTSD aswell, and I am trying to work through it, by going to therapy, and am now on a few depression meds, although my PTSD was not caused by war, if anyone going through suffering with PTSD that needs someone to talk to please feel free to message me at anytime, Ive learned that it really helps to talk about things.
I've got nothing against our vetrins and it is wonderful that there is something out there to help them but why is it that there is hardly anything to help the ones who lived with hell in their own home.
I am confused. Why on earth are they using EEG in this treatment? There was no explanation for the use of electroencephalography. All they appeared to be doing was inducing a meditative, quasi-hypnotic state in people allowing them to relax.
oh man. i can not say enough about neurofeedback. i was diagnosed with severe ptsd in 2001. i was told i would never recover enough to regain any sort of life back. after neurofeedback i have been gaining ground every day. i have returned to work. i truly owe my life to this wonderful treatment.!!
i am in canada and am wondering if anyone knows where neurofeedback is available. i have been dealing with severe ptsd since 2001 also. it would be greatly appreciated if someone could get back to me and let me know any relevant info on neurofeedback i am very curious as to how it works and where i can look into having it. your help would be greatly appreciated. thanks kindly.
I have used EEG Neurofeedback successfully with two veterans. One who in the first Gulf War saw several of his buddies killed by friendly fire, the other a Vietnam veteran who was getting progressively worse from his PTSD. I only wish the VA would begin using EEG Neurofeedback with veterans. In the past two years more Vietnam veterans are dying of suicide than any other cause. All of them are vets with PTSD.
I've had PTSD for 12 years and am a left handed person. After watching this video, it makes much more sense to me now in understanding why my peers that went through the same event that are right handed did not experience PTSD as severely.
THANK YOU for this valuable information.I hope that it will help my daughter who is a veteran of the war in Iraq and is suffering very intensely from it now.

So. Wha is Neurofeedback? I know what it does now. But not how it does it and how it is working. Is there really a legit study around it?

I've throughly tried therapy, medications, even acupuncture, hypnosis as well as other things.
I'm thinking about trying this out but I'm kind of skeptical. I told my mom about it... and all she said was... I dont know what to say.
I don't have any support so it's made it increasingly difficult to solve my on going negative emotions.
sigh I dont know what to do anymore

is this procedure available at most VA's? my life has been destroyed by ptsd yet i move on.
i wish there was a way to calm it down, and stop my ptsd from destroying my relationships.

good point, I've been researching neurofeedback, and there seems to be little else than a monitoring of the EEG output.
