See at 0:20, is it just Carmine playing the double bass pedal part, and is Vinnie just playing one but fast enough to keep up with Carmine, or just not at all? Because otherwise how else can he play both bass peals and work the high hat at the same time?
What a great show of talent. These Brothers are good, guys. Carmine wearing his 'wrestling' shoes lol. When he goes at those double bass drums his feet are a blur. Vinny is also quite the performer. This family is solid; probably drove the old man nuts; but it all paid off in the end. I just hope their Dad and Mom have lived long enough to see their boys make it in the music business.
Dumb and bumber!! hahahaha These 2 cunts are not fit to lace the boots of proper drummers!! I have always said these two wankers have tagged onto good drummers for publicity! Pair of decent, but not brilliant drummers.
@coltsuperocean10 How old are you budd? Carmine was playing drums before you were a twinkle in your Daddy's eye and you are telling me they are 'cunts' and 'wankers' who *tagged onto good drummers* whatever the fuck that means. Carmine's been good enough to play with Ozzy, Vanilla Fudge (who you have probably never heard of), Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck, Cactus, and a few other bands. I saw him with the Fudge in '69 with Zeppelin. He blew Bonham away so shut your fuckin' mouth.
@salottin I don't know anything about Vinnie but I've been sorta following Carmine's Career. Back in the day he played twice as fast and for much longer at a speed only Ginger Backer and Keith Moon could match. His solos were always innovative; never playing a song the same way twice. In '69 his performance here in Edmonton Canadawas great. Zeppelin played second and were terrible.
Drunk. All of them Carmine put Bonham to shame that night. Tickets $5. I was 17.
The kind of "solo" you get at an elderly relative's wedding/anniversary/funeral when the band need to step outside for a smoke and somebody has to stay around and make a noise so the waitresses realise they're still alive, taking their minds off the rising urge to walk in front of a speeding bus at the end of their shift, 'cause they know thy're going home to stale milk in the refrigerator and a father that still beats them. That kind of solo.
@DonChato12 I dont know. Maybe he is a bit overrated, but he's a really nice guy. I've took a bunch of lessons with him in this past July, and he pretty much has a set out amount of beats and fills that get a bit tedious, but are still really good. So I think he may be a bit overrated, not super, but he's a good drummer and a great teacher. No disrespect intended.
@DonChato12 Uh..you OBVIOUSLY aren't a drummer. Drummer would "Overrate him" Drummers Respect him Like they do Neil Peart. This guy helped influence some of the "Overrated" drummers such as Dave Lombard,Paul Bostaph, Chris Adler, ETC. THEY'RE WAY more overrated then him(Except Dave who is god)
all im saying is that its unfair that these two get jobs and be on drummerworld whereas drummers like me have to sit and watch this ''playing'' and weep.
@damienw800i Everyone can learn good technique, and with a lot of hard practice everyone can learn to be super-fast. Drumming is a skill, just like playing any other instrument. Being a musician on the other hand is a whole set of different skills, among them people skills, street-smarts, being a nice and relaxed guy who others wants to play and hang around with and also drumming skills. That's why these guys are where they are and not you, they have been helping their community for years.
Disregard the sound, they really rock! Awesome old style drumming - love it! The dislikes to this video are the ones that think good drumming is throwing in 32nd notes of bass drum between the 16ths, and thats all you need...

To those who think Vinny is a bad drummer go listen to Holy diver and Mob rules! And one more thing: Since monsters musically like Iommi, Butler and Dio chose him to play with them( and they obviously know a lot more than you smartarses that think you know everything about drums) that's got to mean he's really great!! End of story! And he also played with John Lennon and a little before he joined Sabbath in 1980, Ozzy asked him to play with him but he turned him down.
I can really hear those aquarian heads! He tunes his heads standard same/ same on both sides. Aquarian heads sound great standard. They sound like crap any other way.
Oh sure. They suck. How good could they possibly be? Between the two of them, they've played for Dio, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Rod Stewart, Vanilla Fudge, Derringer, Beck Bogert and Appice, Pink Floyd. The Michael Schenker Group, Ted Nugent.... And they have collaborated with all, ALL of the greatest names in rock; too many to list here.

@YogritMUN When you've played with all the top rock bands out there (Vanilla Fudge, The Rod Stewart Group, White Snake, Beck Bogart and Appice, Black Sabbath, etc... just to name a few) have written your own drum book that has sold over a million copies, have toured the globe as a professional drummer and have won accolades from drummers around the world through publications like Modern Drummer Magazine (ever hear of it?) then let us all know (LOL)!
@spercoco Vanilla Fudge and White Snake are "top rock bands?" Damn. Those poor music charts. What we realize more and more as the years go by is that anyone can get famous if they are really good at promoting themselves. Additionally, lots of people can get famous by being in the right place at the right time. Carmine Appice is an example of this buffoonery. He is a totally average drummer, and everyone kind of knows it deep down. And yes, I've been subscribed to ModernDrummer for years.
@YogritMUN Led Zeppelin opened up for Vanilla Fudge dude. I suppose Zep were not a top rock band? If you're going to make comments about rock musicians then know the history at least. You could turn around and say that Zep were not yet famous; it was their first tour. B.S.. because of Page's association with the Yardbirds who were already hugely succesfull and because he and J.P.J already were well know in the British recording industry they were a big sensation right from the start.
@YogritMUN The fact that they opened for the Fudge tells you how respected VF were. In fact Appice helped get Bonham his first deal with the Ludwig Drum Co. Aside from that look at the list of people he's played with. Your suggestion that it's just that he knows how to promote himself doesn't stand because do you think that these musicians like Jeff Beck would hire him if he wasn't on the same level as them? Why not promote yourself and see if you have half the success this guy has??
@r0ccar1 idk about carmine. but i just saw Vinnie on the 21st...friday...he was doing a drum clinic and he was really great. i saw some videos on here of him and i didnt think he sounded too good but in person he was awsome and one of the nicest guys you could meet
Sorry. I enjoyed moments of Vanilla Fudge and I respect that these guys have a professional career, but that said, this is unfortunately, the most amateurish drumming I have ever seen attributed to supposed "drum stars". This is really God-awful.
It wasn't the sound guy. They're playing on crappy kits. The heads, (crappy choice), were tuned quite loosely too. Clearly they were trying to achieve a certain sound. I don't like it either. I suspect Carmine was the mastermind behind all this; too bad for Vinnie. With all due respect to Sharmin, (although I pissed him off once and I wasn't even there to experience it - HA!), he's the master of simplicity. Seriously though, His book was great for me. Great starter book back in the 80's.
See at 0:20, is it just Carmine playing the double bass pedal part, and is Vinnie just playing one but fast enough to keep up with Carmine, or just not at all? Because otherwise how else can he play both bass peals and work the high hat at the same time?

@YogritMUN When you've played with all the top rock bands out there (Vanilla Fudge, The Rod Stewart Group, White Snake, Beck Bogart and Appice, Black Sabbath, etc... just to name a few) have written your own drum book that has sold over a million copies, have toured the globe as a professional drummer and have won accolades from drummers around the world through publications like Modern Drummer Magazine (ever hear of it?) then let us all know (LOL)!
spercoco 1 year ago

@YogritMUN Because they were in some of the biggest bands of their time. Vinny was in fuckin' Sabbath!

This video probably sounds good if it weren't so old, and if the micing and sound was better, and if there was no distortion.

AMAZING¡¡¡¡¡

how about the fact that this video upload is distorted and this was done many years ago and my copy sounds fine !!

well..I guess everyone wakes up in the morning. ;p()

It's sad that the sound is so aweful.
Better pre-work with all the micing and recording would be preferable =(

@r0ccar1 idk about carmine. but i just saw Vinnie on the 21st...friday...he was doing a drum clinic and he was really great. i saw some videos on here of him and i didnt think he sounded too good but in person he was awsome and one of the nicest guys you could meet
DARTHK4B0B 1 year ago
Sorry. I enjoyed moments of Vanilla Fudge and I respect that these guys have a professional career, but that said, this is unfortunately, the most amateurish drumming I have ever seen attributed to supposed "drum stars". This is really God-awful.

@DJDrums23 yes in this but there is another that vinnie win vinnie to me is best than carmine

Wow this is the worst I've ever seen Vinnie Colaiuta. The fact that Carmine Appice is even comparable to him is enough to illustrate that.

i'm sorry this is not good no matter how you mic it or tune it....

Carmine Appice has great chops and I really dig his books... but this sounds terrible! The drums are tuned poorly and the solos are low quality...

@zardinho They're brothers, not father and son!
justentime77 1 year ago
It wasn't the sound guy. They're playing on crappy kits. The heads, (crappy choice), were tuned quite loosely too. Clearly they were trying to achieve a certain sound. I don't like it either. I suspect Carmine was the mastermind behind all this; too bad for Vinnie. With all due respect to Sharmin, (although I pissed him off once and I wasn't even there to experience it - HA!), he's the master of simplicity. Seriously though, His book was great for me. Great starter book back in the 80's.
