The shareholders can be rich people, middle class or poor. Joe Schmoe with a pension plan depends on the corporations ability to make profits so he can retire comfortably. Corporations have ZERO social responsibility. That's the government's job to protect the rights of its citizens.

The CEOs of corporations are merely servants. Their job is to make sure the corporation is in good financial standing and the shareholders happy. This comes at the expense of the consumers. Often times, government regulation means less competition and less competition is not a good thing. Competition in the marketplace is necessary because better companies with best offers and efficiency will survive, while poorly run companies will run out of business.

If I want to upgrade, I can't just work a few hard weeks and use the surplus to make my job easier.

For example, in a communism, all vital social services such as emergency services, health, education, infrastructure, and vital resources are in all necessity owned by those who use them, not only those who work in them. There is a HUGE difference between private and personal property. Private property has the means of production, personal property has not.

Capitalism paves the way to corporate interests. Large businesses monopolizing industries and making it nearly impossible for small businesses to prosper. "Why shop at Joe Schmo's down the street when Walmart can sell it for less?". Same with locally owned restaurants in comparison to fast food chains such as McDonalds. Capitalism allows the pockets of the rich employers to grow deeper while the pockets of the poor employees remain at rock bottom.

This comes at the expense of the consumers. Often times, government regulation means less competition and less competition is not a good thing. If I am allowed to "have" a communal tractor, I obligate myself to work full hours (they set) so that they get their money's worth. They decide whether I deserve to have it. They can decide whether to let someone else share use of it, and then when it breaks, we get to squabble amongst ourselves who misused or should have maintained it, or point our collective fingers at the manufacture's defect. If I want to upgrade, I can't just work a few hard weeks and use the surplus to make my job easier.

Both suck. Logically Socialism is better but both are run awfully in the end. America have run Capitalism BADLY and the USSR, Cuba, NK, ect have run Socialism and Communism BADLY. Actualy the things said about communism mostly are right- no private everything belongs to the country. but I got angry about the attitude of the americans to this system and for THEIR system-''the best country for living'', ''we drive 7% in the cars of the world''-so what i don't give a shit about it. @VistaWTF You're wrong. Communism doesn't mean owned by the country. All means of production, or private property (not personal property) is owned by everyone who uses or is affected by that product. Economy is in all necessity, at least, in theory, owned by the people. Not the state. Communism doesn't have a state as it is a classless, but also stateless system

@VistaWTF I know, I get that a lot. The USSR, along with Bulgaria, were called "communist" by the ruling oppressors at the time, but that's a complete fallacy. They couldn't have been communist as none of the factors as described by Marx et al, were present. They weren't communist, probably not even socialist, systems.
Basically, if you think everyone should be in control of their own workplaces and should govern themselves instead of someone deciding for them, you're a communist.

Of course you're right when you say the USSR along with all the other Communist countries were far from the Marxist utopia. The problem is that the communism pushed at the time of this video (or any version since) wasn't that ideal either.

@kalavic Own workplace, as in the workplace where you work. Whether you're self-employed or work with hundreds of others at an office, shopping centre or car-assembly line, it's all about organising so that you, along with your colleagues, control your workplace. Not your boss, manager, CEO.
The communist ideal never really changed. Its execution, however, has been pushed to pervertedness over and over. Though quite a few revolutions have and are going the right way to communism.

@MinimoviesInc I can tell your intelligent, but I really think you're missing a core attribute of communism. Own doesn't just mean the place you work, it means whatever affects you as a part of society. So really everybody is owning everything, which is just another way of saying nobody has nothing.
The different interpretations of how to approach that problem is what's led to such vast differences in it's implementation.

@kalavic Wrong. There is no correlation between everything being communally owned, and controlling what affects you in society. For example, in a communism, all vital social services such as emergency services, health, education, infrastructure, and vital resources are in all necessity owned by those who use them, not only those who work in them. There is a HUGE difference between private and personal property. Private property has the means of production, personal property has not.

But the production of personal items is still production, so users rather than producers control about any work place. Even most services fall under social ownership, such as health-care, education and law. And who decides the consumers' interests?

Capitalism paves the way to corporate interests. Large businesses monopolizing industries and making it nearly impossible for small businesses to prosper. "Why shop at Joe Schmo's down the street when Walmart can sell it for less?". Same with locally owned restaurants in comparison to fast food chains such as McDonalds. Capitalism allows the pockets of the rich employers to grow deeper while the pockets of the poor employees remain at rock bottom.
