Rickover was Hyman Rickover, father of America"s nuclear Navy and Jimmy Carter's boss. When I hear this piece, I visualize a huge Poseidon sub breaching like a humpback. What about Rickover inspired Michael Hedges?
That puzzles me too, especially after reading his dedication to Gallileo using the telescope in peaceful purposes in the booklet of the Aerial Boundaries CD. Why would such a peaceful song be dedicated to war? Of course, it may just be the personality and persistence of Rickover that inspired Hedges.
