I read the second book, and seriously the writing was just terrible. One of the worst novels I have ever read. I realized how much the writer expanded this character and made him more interesting for tv, because the books were just awful. The author overwrites to no end, and Dexter is so overdramatic in the books! But it says a lot about the show that they can make it better than the books . . .

Interesting. I have just completed the first book, and found it very intense but extremely well written. The first person aspect makes it extremely personal.

However, I read reviews about the subsequent books and they did actually look terrible... a decline of ER Burroughs proportions into weirdness and the supernatural. Book 2 just looked sick for sickness' sake. Thanks for the review... I shall avoid.
