i hate ads with kid choirs in it. would have been better with some travellers who may actually have travelled and experienced the world. mush and claptrap.
Gooosebump's for me too. I was listening to this song the first time on a Qantas flight when I left Germany to start new in down under. I felt going home and this song never left my mind again.
its a great song but i dont think it should be the national anthem, only because its about traveling aussies. I think i am australian by the keepers should be our national anthem.
Well we sure can't compete with your beaches and the clarity of the water there, that's for sure. I think anyone who bags on ANY country is a complete half - brain idiot, and I'm hoping, at the approval of the global studies office, that I'll have a chance to see for myself how beautiful Australia really is.
I remember seeing this advert shortly before the plane landed in Sydney in spring (late October) 2002. I had not seen the video before and had never been to Oz but the song brought me to tears. And the theme is reminiscent of two of the songs about my native city of San Francisco: the wandering one who longs for Home. An incredibly good advert and song - and an even better land. Thanks for posting it.
Australia better be careful. If they keep making cool commercials like this, 300 million Americans might pack their bags and move to Australia. Last one out please turn out the lights.
I'm an American. I believe Australia is one of the most stunningly beautiful countries on Earth! I travel the world and wish sometimes that I could call Australia my home.
To be honest I prefer the Aussie anthem to the American anthem. The American one seems too 'pro-war' for my tastes.
America is a nice place, and I will confess the US anthem is fine, even inspiring, but no one seems to know the words :) .
I sure hope we don't change the Australian national athem to Waltzing Matilda. It's about a thieving bum who commits suicide rather than be arrested for heaven sakes!!
Pir, a lot of Americans don't really care for the American anthem. First of all, nobody can sing it. And second, nobody really knows the worlds after the first part. As far as Australia goes, the words to Waltzing Matilda prevent it from ever being your national anthem but if any song brings up images of Australia, it is that song.
@Pirhana01 The Australian is definitely better than the American one. It expresses the freedom, youth and beauty of Australia. Far, far better than the American one.

No offense Australia however this song is much more worthy, noble, and majestic than your present national anthem. I just listened to the Australian national anthem, and quite frankly, it isn't very memorable. Being an American, let me just say that I think the Star Spangled Banner pretty much blows chunks also! America the Beautiful is much better. Other than that, AUSTRALIA ROCKS!!
have you tryed visiting Australia? if not then you have no right to sterotype it. its a really beautiful contry, ive been to Australia, and America, i personally think Austraila is better, seen as im moving there soon. if have never been there then dont insult it.....AUSTRALIA ROCKS !!! lovely advert of Qantas , i love that airline, very well mannered staff ! 10/10 for Australia
Wow, exactly what I've been thinking for the last, like, 8 years.
Only difference is I actually live here.
Loved this song since I first heard it, and still do. And yeah, I agree, it should be our anthem. So much more emotional than 'Advance Australia Fair', which people seem embarrassed to sing.
Also I find it hilarious that your first comment somehow lead to people rating QANTAS' customer service.
a prospective national anthem...along with waltzing matilda.
If think watching it here is awesome...try being an aussie overseas and watch foreign TV and when this comes on its awesome...happened to me a few times at airports/hotels around the place cant beat it!!
My father loved Australia while stationed there during the war.He had quite a gal as a friend while he was there.Fortunately, for me he did'nt marry her! lol
This song should replace Advance Australia Fair as Australia's National Anthem!

@TheKarlez I take it that you are the girl in the Advert? if so you are one of the lucky ones who travelled the globe to make the advert for Qantas.

what have you got against australia? why don't you tell japan to stop killing the whales???

It's hysterical - daisk5 from Japan placing a link to an attack on Australia for it's poor treatment of aboriginals.
Japan having rewritten its official history books to hide its brutal past.

yeah but notice, our people can actually SING our anthem, and don't need to pay a professional opera singer to do it!
ellinovatcheva 4 years ago 5
This is true. If people do actually make an attempt to sing the American national anthem, they pretty much are humming it by the second line.
The point I was trying to make was, even though this song was an advertisement, it really would make a very cool national anthem.
MGR1900 4 years ago 3
