This is my "Go to" song when I need to feel peace and tranquility. If a song can define a man, then this music which soothes my very soul is that song. But I have so many varied moods.
What is SME? I have this song in a playlist, and for some odd reason it just stopped and said "SME restricts playback of this video in playlists" or something like that.
@lee32uk Thank you. I'm actually in Chicago, but I'm sure they have applied some of the same rules. They let me play the video outside of my playlist, so I don't care...that much. Merry Christmas. :)
I maintain that this work, and its underlying instrumental music, 'Adagio for Strings' was the most important musical piece of the 20th century. It is the saddest piece of music written in that entire century.
@SinnerBeta Yes, see: watch?v=EVc66AhNppQ Wikipedia says that the version on HW is performed by other people, so it sounds like a fast-forwarded compared to this and imho fits better to the game.
That travesty of a performer/musician that is Tiesto... how dares he to take this piece and trash it like he did. :( Someone call the Music Inquisition to drag his sorry ass to jail.
Lovely, thank you. Have you listened to the Augustana College choir with this: on the road (Sweden), a little faster, the soprano in the first few bars maybe a bit more controlled...? So beautiful, the world seems a little less scary.....

@NoMus1cNoLife Ok, here we go....first of all, i don't see any reason not to say something funny about bieber for crying out loud, at least it seemed funny to me at that time, secondly, for your information i first listened to this remarkable music back at the 70's when i was like 7-8 years old and fell in love with it....at the age of 7.
@NoMus1cNoLife so, i respectfully want to say to you both (votumseparatum1 and NoMus1cNoLife) that music, even if it is a classical piece or a heavy metal, doesn't go with the age of the listener. Be polite to children's like 14 years old and to anyone who made a comment here without offending anyone. Peace.
By the time the piece hits 7:00 I am covered in goosebumps and tears are in my eyes. This is one of the most gorgeous pieces ever written and I will always have a place in my heart for this piece.
I wonder if there is a single comment that isn't cheesy or pretentious. Also, MeHT555 instead of writing "spiritual" why not just write "melodic" because that is all it is.
This was Grace Kelly's favorite song, and when you know something about her life, you'll understand why. This song should not be sped up, as one of those commenting suggested. It is powerful and haunting, and oddly enough, is not a song I am able to whistle. You "feel" this song, you "live" this song. I used this song often after my separation, and it helped me release a lot of emotions that I kept bottled up. This version with human voices is equal to my favorite symphonic version......slowly.
We are aware at this time that many of you have a feeling of rootlessness and we encourage you to know that the creator is everywhere that your footing need not be recognizable your security and safety are never in question you will live and you will surely die but that which is you will bloom anew and your radiance of being will grow ever more bright we who are your humble bothers salute you may you rest in the love and the light of the infinite creator
This has always sounded to me a piece that was originally written Allegro then rewritten Adagio. It's gentle and quiet but it never lets you pause to breathe. It doesn't let you go until it's done. There's no ornament. For composers, these are aspects you want in an Allegro. I would like to hear this sped up somehow. I know it's vandalism but I have to know.
This song is amazing and has a really powerful effect on emotions, this song makes me think about everything, the past, the present and the future.. I'm a metal head but this masterpeice is my escape from heavy guitar solo's and banging drums..
"A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of death better than the day of birth.
2 It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of every man; the living should take this to heart.
3 Sorrow is better than laughter, because a sad face is good for the heart.
4 The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of pleasure."
@PhysicsProf1 The same can be said about ANY idea, even science. Whether it's religion, politics, or music (Isn't Lady Gaga and her loyal followers a cult in some way? You have a dogmatic figure and nuts following her). Instead of bashing religion (must EVERYONE do that?), why not simply enjoy the music? I'm not religious but it's tiresome to see so much hypocrisy - criticizing religion while revering music in a cult-like fashion.
@MrDiscernment2011 A cult is an organization of people who are led by either a single, charasmatic leader or group of leaders where truths are told rather than concluded. Things are true because he ( or they) say so. Not to be questioned by the scientific method. Geocentrists and people who believe that the Earth is only about 6500 years old are examples of cults. They reject undisputable, concluded facts to believe what they are told by their leader(s) instead.
The sound of tragedy...."Platoon" burning the homes of the "enemy" when we disgraced ourselves and 9/11 when there were no words to describe the grief.
@cheetofacedon Well, the only good thing I have to say about Tiesto's version that perhaps it inspired some people to look for the original and feel the immense spiritual (spiritual, not religious) power of this masterpiece. Truly tear-inducing.
Ok my upmost goes out for the families for the THOUSANDS of people died on 9/11
BUT why don't people understand that there are MILLIONS of people in; Iraq, Palestine that are dying, I'm not taling about the terrorists, I talking about the civilians.
In Iraq people are only resisting the foreign soldiers to go back home, so why do we call their side of the battle "terrorists?"
I understand your feelings, but this is another issue. I have listened to you, so perhaps others will. Sadly, it seems that the innocent majority are always the casualties of the acts of greed and intolerance of the powerful few.
You have my respect, the last sentence was mind blowing, "The innocent majority are always the casualties of the acts of greed and intolerance of the powerful few."
@suladna I don't agree, just because this is a stunningly beautiful piece of music, doesn't mean that it is appropriate for every tragedy. The words don't really have any relevance to 9/11. Of course, my feelings and thoughts go out to all the families of those who lost their lives in that terrible disaster, but I think an 'In Paradisum' from a requiem would be more appropriate for 9/11
@burgerboy0095 No, it isn't appropriate for every tragedy, but as it was written in America, and first performed as a radio broadcast in New York, I thought it was appropriate for 9/11. I do agree with your choice of In Paradisum (particularly that from Faure's requiem). However, I don't agree that the words from the Agnus Dei here are irrelevant as, although I am not religious, I am led to believe that the concept of Agnus Dei was that of the scapegoat being punished for the acts of others.
I am a ballerina and I performed a tribute to 9-11 on the streets of times square. It is the most perfect song for 9-11. I started crying while performing due to the depth of the moment.
I don't think you have to be religious to appreciate this masterpiece of Choral music... Beautiful, serene and breathtaking.... Wish there was more like it. Peace x
if we are just floating around out here on a sphere ,,,, AND (US AS HUMANS) create somthing like this...AND IF THAT WAS it ; I COULD DIE A HAPPY MAN....But theres much more to this than me and you will ever understand... UNTIL WE UNDERSTAND THAT THEN WE WILL REMAIN PAUSED IN TIME...
Bitte....WAS ?? gibts denn hier wieder auszusetzen?? An Euch 33 Negativ-Bewerter..bitte um Erklärung!!
@gnarlycharlie666 The song is available for download from Amazon. You should be able to get it from iTunes. Either way just search for "Trinity College Barber Agnus Dei".
i played this at a church ruin, it was an old plague church, ill put a link up, but its up to you to find where it is, it shouldnt be a tourist destination because of its history.
As i played this tune i saw orbs and apperitions appearing. it was scary but truly amazing.
@chinook654 Actually, George Gerswin is an American Composer. Perhaps you should replace it with Wagner, who is just as incredible AND is from Europe. Have a nice day hun.
Why cant I stop listning to it.. Over and over and over..... My finger keeps pressing F5 when the song ends.... I need help.

In Iraq people are only resisting the foreign soldiers to go back home, so why do we call their side of the battle "terrorists?"
Nelson Mandela- terrorist/ freedom fighter?
1962 - Terrorist
2011 - Freedom Fighter

@asif1995malik Yes, for me it is appropriate.
I understand your feelings, but this is another issue. I have listened to you, so perhaps others will. Sadly, it seems that the innocent majority are always the casualties of the acts of greed and intolerance of the powerful few.

@suladna Fair enough
You have my respect, the last sentence was mind blowing, "The innocent majority are always the casualties of the acts of greed and intolerance of the powerful few."
So true.
asif1995malik 3 months ago
@suladna I don't agree, just because this is a stunningly beautiful piece of music, doesn't mean that it is appropriate for every tragedy. The words don't really have any relevance to 9/11. Of course, my feelings and thoughts go out to all the families of those who lost their lives in that terrible disaster, but I think an 'In Paradisum' from a requiem would be more appropriate for 9/11
burgerboy0095 3 months ago
@burgerboy0095 No, it isn't appropriate for every tragedy, but as it was written in America, and first performed as a radio broadcast in New York, I thought it was appropriate for 9/11. I do agree with your choice of In Paradisum (particularly that from Faure's requiem). However, I don't agree that the words from the Agnus Dei here are irrelevant as, although I am not religious, I am led to believe that the concept of Agnus Dei was that of the scapegoat being punished for the acts of others.

@suladna i guess this is appropriate to any tragedy. I personally think a lot of my beloved and missed Grand-Fathers when I hear this :)

I am a ballerina and I performed a tribute to 9-11 on the streets of times square. It is the most perfect song for 9-11. I started crying while performing due to the depth of the moment.

Bitte....WAS ?? gibts denn hier wieder auszusetzen?? An Euch 33 Negativ-Bewerter..bitte um Erklärung!!

@gnarlycharlie666 You could probably use Shazam (the phone app) to recognize it, then you could probably download it on iTunes
usamexfra 5 months ago
@gnarlycharlie666 The song is available for download from Amazon. You should be able to get it from iTunes. Either way just search for "Trinity College Barber Agnus Dei".

i played this at a church ruin, it was an old plague church, ill put a link up, but its up to you to find where it is, it shouldnt be a tourist destination because of its history.
As i played this tune i saw orbs and apperitions appearing. it was scary but truly amazing.

its ok, the europeans had beethoven, mozart, holst, mahler, bach, elgar, gershwin.
This guy is good, but he doesnt come close to alot of german music.
chinook654 5 months ago
@chinook654 Actually, George Gerswin is an American Composer. Perhaps you should replace it with Wagner, who is just as incredible AND is from Europe. Have a nice day hun.
