  • Its not russian ..... its Karpathian music ...Bukovina

  • ware these dancing... were those smiles - to forget the tears, to forget the cry ?

  • Speaking of Jewish composers, the greatest classical composer of the 20th century was none other than Gustav Mahler so for those that did not know this..too many more to count and consider. Those who wish to dispute the importance of Jewish artists and musicians, poets and writers, philosophers and scientists and so are dancing on a grave of ignorance and deceit and will fall into its darkness. Greatness is found in this tiny tribe spread over the world.

  • This is wonderful. Thank you for posting it.

  • There is no clear line between Jewish, Russian, Gypsy, Hungarian, Romanian, Greek, Turkish or any other music. Musicians always are influenced by what they hear and somehow it gets mixed in. In America, Gospel, Bluegrass, Blues, and everything else gets churned together and comes out as Rock. No music exists these days in a vacume and it didn't 100 years ago, either

  • well ,if its jewish and cannot be Russian ...

because Jews hate orthodox Russia .....

  • @napajedlacek I'm a Russian Jew and I'm very proud of my country :)

  • @MyOwnGuitarHero which one israel or russia :) joking both of them are great 2 be proud of !!

  • @napajedlacek With time you'll discover they hate pretty much anything but themselves, with the same passion.

  • you need to win some thing for this

    video this good.

  • Amen!

  • The music on this video IS jewish in the sense that it is a combination of musical sounds and themes collected by jews in the various countries that they, the jews, visited. The jews have a history of helping themselves to the creative aspects of other peoples cultures.

  • that gives us a false impression of the activities of jews in russia then. it was not so innocent, a part of them prepared the bolshevik revolution and the other part exploited the ppl of russia..

  • @zobielamouche1 Actually, most Jews were farmers or small merchants in Russian towns. Yes, a lot of the top Bolsheviks were Jews, but more were ethnic Russians, Poles, Georgians, and so forth. Also, the Red Army performed pogroms just like everyone else did. Also, a great number of Jews joined the WHITE Army and donated millions of rubles to the White Army because they wanted to preserve the new Russian Republic and didn't want a communist country.

  • @zobielamouche1 you are full of shit you stinking anti semite. my maternal grandparents were from kommunite padolsky in russis/poland and they did not exploit ANYONE.so shove your lies where the sun don't shine.

  • I got totally distracted and totally absorbed in the history in the pictures and music.

A worthy favourite and addition to my own eclectic collections.

    Thank-you!!!

  • Who ever lies that music is not written by Jews is racist liar,

  • in fact, even J.S.Bach had jewish heritage, but his ancestors were forcet to conversion to christianity during dark age

  • I LOVE the music and pictures, and how you put it all together. Some of the pieces were the melodies of familiar Jewish prayers. I don't know how ANYBODY could be critical of this. I would appreciate more in the future...

  • I love how all the anti-Jewish people are desperately trying to make out that Jews didn't write this music. It's so pathetic. Jewish culture is wonderful and very beautiful!

  • @Indeed999 I'm not Jewish, but I agree. It is truly beautiful music.

  • @Shmerpy Me neither, but I'm jealous of people who are.... their culture is gorgeous. :)

  • Have just visited the channel of commenter oveid, he seems to be a total fruit cake.

  • As I said, I wasn't sure if it was worth the reply.

  • @rebshaya2 I said composers and you name plagirisers and executives. Thanks for the help.

  • @oveid This is probably not worth replying to, but for others that may be interested, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Loewe, Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, Carol King, Leonard Cohen, Neil Diamond, Arlo Guthrie, Meyerbeer, Offenbach, Mendelssohn, and many many more were all Jewish. Where are the Jewish composers???

  • @rebshaya2 ,,dont forget Brahms, Bach,Wagner..As there are so 'few' jewish composers is because of open antisemitism at the old time..The jews were FORCED CONVERTING TO CHRISTIANITY if they wished vreate music or poetry..For example greatest german poet Heinrich Heine had Jewish heritage but converted to christianity

  • @rebshaya2 Of course also Jerry Lieber and Mark Stoller, the guys who wrote Houndog, a little hit sung by Elvis Presley.

  • @oveid Responding rationally to such a creature is as useful and gratifying as pissing in the wind. HaTipesh hu mamser v' go'al nefesh.

  • Can you please tell me what the name of that last song is ? Thanks.

  • @Niveabody12345678910 The last song is the same as the first, a Lubavitch Voloch from the Sefer Niggunim. All of the full versions are available on the CD available at rebshaya .com

  • @rebshaya2 man typical jew trying to make money of culture. I demand you upload them. Just because the rest of us doesn't worship the pig doesn't mean you should hold out on your music!

  • I like yiddish song, very good.

  • @jpstenino You are wrong! This is jewish! Many nations have been influenced by jewish music and that is the fact like it or not ;-)

  • @jpstenino If you can show me anything documented to show that this music was written earlier by non-Jews, I would be very interested to see it. See my reply to the more recent comment that Jews are not composers to see how much American music has been influenced by Jewish composers, so I see no reason that it should not have been the case with Russian/Ukrainian music. Our musical creativity over the last hundred years has been well documented.

  • I don't really know what people believe those days, I'm fairly young, but this music is just magic, i don't have words just feelings.. u know

  • I am ready to rake and frolick in piles of leaves.

  • It sounds like cats screwing! The violin is horrible!

  • thanks :) my ancestors came from east poland/ russia so am happy to find this video :)

  • I love all this songs. So amazing, never heard anything like this before. Ancient memories... Shalom.

  • Beautiful video.

  • C'est très proche de la musique celtique ou irlandaise !!! This sounds like Irish or Celtic music !!! Amazing !

  • judes are most dangerous people in the whole world.

  • Luv this!! Thank you for posting.. ;-)

  • It's is really great. It's so rare that you'll find Jewish music writen in a major key, so this is a very nice change.

  • The first song in the first 50 seconds is great. I would love to find it in its full form somewhere.

  • @MPGP390 The last segment is from the end of the same song. The full version, as well as full versions of all the snippets here and others not represented here, can be heard on my full album, available at rebshaya. com

  • Phenomenal music - thank you so much for sharing this. =O <3

  • nice music :)

  • @rebshaya2 some chabad songs were took from classic or folkloric songs from their region. like 4 bavot. so this might be just another one. and chabad included them in their repertoire, exported them and keep them alive...

  • @nusdorfer Although some songs were borrowed, and usually documented as such, I never heard the "4 bovot" was borrowed. That was composed by the Ball HaTanya himself. In general, the Jews have always been talented musicians, and created tons of melodies themselves; some were actually adopted by their gentile neighbors.

  • @rebshaya2 ? האם הוא ותן שיעורי כינור

  • @wiedmak Most of these melodies were transcribed by a Russian musicologist who toured Jewish villages in Ukraine (called shtetlach) in the early 20th century. How they would have heard Polish mountaineer melodies, I don't know. You could say the the style is similar, but as I've replied before, Jewish music has always been influenced by surrounding cultures. However, I still maintain that it has an individuality which is not simply a "copy" of surrounding cultures.

  • Great folk music!

  • @hoomooloo As a non-Jew who has lived in Israel and visited it many times, I can tell you that you are absolutely wrong.

ZIonism is the Jewish nation's love of its homeland.

Besides, your politics really have no place on this forum.

  • @missclearskin09

    What is this shit comment!

  • @missclearskin09 This is Klezmier music ancient Jewish music

  • this has parts where it is similar to csángó music. (the hooptsa hooptsa lively-dancy parts.) Csángós are romanianized hungarians in Romania. If the Russians have this too, does it mean that this may be a Jewish influence in the Romanian music?

  • @Whyolin As I've said before, there are many reciprocal influences between Jewish music and other music of the area. Jews influenced non-Jewish music and vice versa. Romanian music definitely had an influence, but much of the Jewish music has a middle Eastern flavor that is quite unique. It also has reminders of Jewish liturgical chants. But Jewish music hardly developed in a vacuum.

  • @rebshaya2 some parts of it really reminds turkish music. cultural interaction of this geography is more than we imagne...

  • @rebshaya2 I don't think Jewish music has any relations to Middle Eastern music as most of the eastern europen jews descended from the turkic khazar empire, east ukraine, south russia, which chose judaism as state religion. Also, violin is not common at all in middle eastern music.

  • @turcoboshnak It has the same roots my friend, we are one world, one people, only the idea of nationalist states separated us from each other

  • @turcoboshnak That business about descending from the Khazar converts has long been disproven by DNA and other means.

  • @rebshaya2

Western classical music is an outgrowth of the Gregorian chant, which had its origins in the liturgical chants of the synagogue service.

  • @rebshaya2

See, e.g., Beethoven's Anvil: Music in Mind and Culture, by William Benzon (Basic Books, New York, 2001, pp. 245-246, 259-261). Benzon notes that the Gregorian chant, which "has its roots in the pre-Christian music of the Jewish service," is "generally regarded as the fountainhead of Western classical music, all of whose forms have some link to their Gregorian lineage, though many other musics are eventually put to classical use."

  • @Whyolin Yes I can Hear the Hungarian, my father from Buda.

  • how is the first melody called? i'd like to have it! pls

  • this sounds a lot like the gypsy's music. no offence, where I live traditional gypsy music is like this

  • @maggotfrom1993 There are a lot of reciprocal influences between the gypsies and klezmer musicians; some even participated in bands together. That's usually associated with the Carpathians, Hungary and Rumania where there were more gypsies - I'm not sure how many were in the Ukraine and Belorus, where most of this music was heard, but Jewish music migrates around. In any case, the Eastern European flavor is always there, albeit with a strong Middle East flavor in much of it.

  • @rebshaya2 Ukrainian Carpathian music is exactly like this. (Gutsul and Rusyn music)

  • @casperado666 Hucul ;)

  • @maggotfrom1993 Like most of Eastern European music actually, so it's no surprise.

  • q hermosa musica

  • boring

  • nice music

  • the beginings of Klezmer ; )

  • ...beautiful!!!

  • very nice!!! this music brings me back when i was a little boy my grandfather & grandmother wood play this music thanks for posting it shalom

  • Got to rebshaya. com. The mp3 is available there for download.

  • is there any way i can download these songs anywhere? im doing a project on russian jews and their music....

  • America is much more beautiful.

  • That's the beauty of Israeli society, Jews from all countries have everyone bring a different culture. Jews of Russia brought Russia's culture, the music, the food, the beauty, I love Russian culture

  • what is the song playing from 2:45 to 3:06?

  • @nounever This is a "freilachs" transcribed in Kiev in 1915. I believe it has been used as a melody for the dancing on the festival of Simchas Torah (called a "Hakafah Nigun") and/or a melody used for the "Mitzvah Tanz" at Jewish weddings.

  • @rebshaya2 thank you because i heard it before when i was a child visiting Dneiper Petrovsk

  • @nounever Just curious: you remember if it was a Jewish band or a non-Jewish one? (Not that it says much about the origin of the tune; they were pretty freely exchanged from Jews to non-Jews and vice versa)

  • @rebshaya2 some of the band were Jewish some were just Russian I only remember hearing it but what is the actual specific name of it?

  • @nounever Most of these dance tunes have no specific name, and are identified more by type (freilach, bulgar, etc), unless there were specific lyrics, which in most cases there aren't. This particular melody is more likely to be Chassidic than standard "klezmer", which is kind of a generic term which also includes more secular music. This song has appeared on recent Chassidic recordings, but is not well known.

  • @rebshaya2 but it involves a fiddler so it is Klezmer

  • @rebshaya2 i know thats how it identifies but i heard it played before

  • what is the song playing from 2:45 to 3:06?

  • So good it gives me CHILLS. This is the sound I was looking for. Astonishing.

  • @megaswenson Don't forget to check out the full CD at RebShaya. com. These are only a few short selections from the full CD.

  • my great grandmother on my maternal side was a Russian Jew, the Jews in Russia had a difficult time and were persecuted.

  • Fact 4 and THE BOTTOM LINE- The current state of Jordan comprises 75% of the Former territory of the Palestine Mandate. It's inhabitants are primarily Arabic/Palestinian/Jordanians, they are all the same in that area. They are ruled by an Arabic family of great antiquity from "The Hejaz". None of this changes Facts five- The Palestinians have a State. This state is named Jordan. Jordan contains 75% of the former "Palestine" . The Israelis control the rest. Too bad they returned the Sinai.

  • @RIOTACT541 Dude, Whatta f...?

If you dont enjoy the music and the pictures check out other links, Why the f... politics, man?

  • Conjecture- Hussein, having had his ambition to become the First Arabic Sultan in many centuries stymied, as well as his loss of control of "The Hejaz" and all of the Arabian peninsula eventually to a fellow by the name of ibn Saud (as in Saudi Arabia), perhaps was mollified to see his son Hussein declare himself King and later his other son Feisal became King of Iraq (after a brief fling in Syria), another of the artificial geographical entities created by the "victors" of WWI.

  • Fact three-Transjordania, a term that referred to that territory EAST OF THE JORDAN RIVER, came under the administrative control of Abdullah, son of Sayyid Hussein bin Ali, the last Sherif and Emir of Mecca appointed by the Ottoman Sultan. Fact four-His Children's children rule there to this day, the current Abdullah his direct descendant, as King of "The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan". This consolation prize to the Hashim family was delivered by the British to Hussein et al.

  • Fact one-The Hebrews spilled a lot of blood in the promised land before it ever flowed with milk and honey. Fact two-The "Palestinians" already have their own state. This came into being legally and formally in 1922, with the issuance of the so-called "Churchill White Papers" in which England amended the "Palestine Mandate" granted by the League of Nations as a final condition of acceptance of that mandate. The "White Papers" prohibited the settlement of Jews EAST OF THE JORDAN RIVER.

  • i believe i dont have to worry about

  • Hi Reb Shaya,

Could you please tell me the name of the CD that plays the opening song?

It is one of the most beautiful niggunim I've ever heard.

Also, just ignore some of the racist trash that comment on youtube - they have no lives.

  • How did Jewish People end up in Russia from Egypt? Did they not leave Egypt with Moses?

So, are Jewish People originally Egyptian?

Then how are they European too?

    Very confusing & inconsistent.

Does not Judaism acquired from Mother's side by children?

    So all have Egyptian genes?

    I have too.

  • If you read the Bible, you will see that the Jewish people originated in Mesopotamia and migrated to Egypt where they were enslaved. After the Exodus, they went to the Land of Israel, where they lived for about 1200 years (aside from 70 years in Babylon) until the Romans exiled them and they spread throughout the world. That's how they got to Russia.

  • what is bible who wrote the bible

what has bibe to do with anything.

    tell everyone what is bible.

  • yeah you are an idiot not all jews are the same race Ashkenazi jews are TURKIC KHAZARS CONVERTED TO JUDAEISM AND WENT TO THE RHINELAND IN GERMANY not like the ISRAELI MIDDLE EASTERN JEWS WHO ARE THE ORIGINAL STOCK AND ARE MIZHRAHI different race to the ASHKENZAI you probably know nothing about Jews so shut up please.

  • nounever

Read genetic studies. For the begining read genetic studies mentioned in Wikipedia Jews article.Than read Hammer Behar Shen Molutsky Nebla Foset and many others. The israelite origin of all Jews is today scientificly proven.Btw Jews lived in Rheinland and all ower Europe centuries before a small part of Khazar nobelity choosed(not converted) Judaisam as their religion.Leter this people were absorbed in Kievan Rus

  • @ssehram you stupid Arab the white looking Jews are Ashkenazi Jews from descended Jews from Israel and Khazar converts who moved to Europe around 450 A.D and are now European Jews not all Jews are the same completely you stupid Arab.

  • @nounever That theory has been disproved by DNA testing, by the way.

  • @taniajosefa

    A political chap? ROTFLMFAO!!!

  • Amazing --?, perhaps a tad generous dont ya think?

  • lol

  • Неплохо! Great.

  • According to his Wiki, Shostakovich is of Polish-Catholic ancestry. "Though the Shostakovich family through his paternal grandfather (originally Szostakowicz) was of Polish (Litvin) Roman Catholic heritage (his family roots trace to the region of the town of Vileyka in Belarus), his immediate forebears came from Siberia.[2] His paternal grandfather, a Polish revolutionary in the January Uprising of 1863-4 ".

If you disagree with the above (and have factual proof) then why not correct the Wiki?

  • @7Andrzej he was sympathetic to the Jewish plight, however shostokovitch was not Jewish

  • I

Some time in a past life I was a jew and I would like to become again a jew.

  • why not convert?

  • this is not my comment is from a friend...

  • I LOVE This!!!!!

  • The Jews are NOT promoting brain washing children in military training camps, teaching them how to blow themselves up! The Jews don't hijack planes, or blow themselves up. There is NOT one single Jew that has destroyed a church. The Jews dont have leaders calling for Jihad and death to all the Infidels.

Perhaps the world's Muslims should consider investing more in standard education and less in blaming the Jews for all their problems.

    Julius

  • Why am I a joke? Are we not in agreement? Read my comment again.
