I think most people opposed are protecting the concept of marriage, despite being against religeon and it's influence on society I understand this point of view. To the religeous, this is a minority trying to overthrow the values our society is based on, the only way to move forward is when those opposed understand that the values they hold in marriage are not christian, but values instilled in marriage itself. I'm straight and want to get married some day, but it won't be in a church.
And the thing is, the values instilled in marriage ARE fundamentally christian, even though they've changed over time and taken on more romantic connotations. I mean, the whole point of a marriage in australia or america or the UK is to unite two people in love in a way that's recognised by the christian god as "pure", and it's only gained wider use because of christianity's influence.

She directly addressed one of his initial conclusions and made it clear that he is LYING about the increasingly hostile attitudes to normal marriage. I think most people opposed are protecting the concept of marriage, despite being against religeon and it's influence on society I understand this point of view. To the religeous, this is a minority trying to overthrow the values our society is based on, the only way to move forward is when those opposed understand that the values they hold in marriage are not christian, but values instilled in marriage itself. I'm straight and want to get married some day, but it won't be in a church.

I understand in that way why people who have no connection to the institution still want the romantic connotations, I don't think pushing this arguement of "Two people in love" helps either side and until the 'purity' of heterochristio marriage is divided somehow, there will be no compromise.
