Not the best recording, but two of the most talented artists of the centruy together--sexy and alluring..makes you want to do it, almost!! If it sounded better!
Thanks for posting this so we can continue to bask in the glow!! It's so great that they did Matty Groves (done years ago by Sandy Denny with Fairport Convention--who sings on original Evermore) I was not all that excited to see Plant, but he blew my mind--definitely the highlight of an extraordinary weekend. Very moving to see him come out and deliver such a poweful, emotional performance the way he did--last time I saw him was with Zep 36 years ago at the Berkeley Community Theatre.
I knew he was gonna be good. I was at Berkeley Community for that concert, too! Robert wore a leather vest with no shirt. Remember how he used to swing his hair around? I also went to Kezar stadium for the concert where the doves were released and one landed on his hand for that famous picture. Thanks for your nice comment.
The real Genius behind this whole endeavor has been T-Bone Burnett. He has been the catalyst that has created what I believe to be the most outstanding musical production in years. Buddy Miller on guitar and Union Station. Absolute chemistry.
Actually, the tune in the middle is "Matty Groves," a famous British murder ballad -- "Shady Grove" is a closely related Appalachian variant with a whole different set of lyrics.
I love the drumming -- Jay Bellerose has a way of sounding huge while never getting obnoxiously loud and forcing the band to do the same. He's just a great and unique musician who hears and does exactly what each tune requires.
Thanks, I'll fix that. I love the drums too. there was a guy standing next to me who mentioned the big mallets. He said you'd need a big sound to live up to the memory of John Bonham. Of course, Jay Bellerose is masterful on his own, but I saw what he meant.
Hi Tric. Good to hear from you. Shady Grove has to be a straight shot from the British Isles to Appalachia. Wish you'd been here, great concert. Free, too!
It was wonderful, wasn't it!? I have a couple more, I will post after I edit a little. I had some camera trouble and missed recording Battle of Evermore.
