This road doesn't look that dangerous, providing the weather is dry and you aren't in a large vehicle. The biggest worry for me would be oncoming vehicles, but you get that on many roads

@MEareCAT Right, the danger is caused by larger trucks and buses on single lane dirt roads. It's quite tricky passing. For bikers it's fairly safe although several have lost their lives. One of the guides on another bike tour group fell off his bike on the day we went down, so it is dangerous.

Looks scary. Some of the roads in karakoram and himalayan region are very challenging too. Narrow just like this one but the drop is much more than this road, there is no doubt that himalyan and karakoram mountain ranges are the highest in the world. That is a fact. I think folks dont know about them coz they are too steep for heavier trucks and they are basically jeep roads only. This climb is not that steep. The traffic is bad though. More people, more mistakes and more deaths

@lbqpdl They did build a more modern road with lots of TNT. It tunnels in and out of the side of the mountain on the opposite side of the valley. It wasn't yet finished when we were there but is being used now. From the pictures I have seen of it, it looks just as terrifying...

There is nothing misleading in the content. ABC Night Line did a piece on this road while we were there. Perhaps you can report them too.

I've seen quite a bit, and I think it was fairly dangerous for a truck, not really a bike. I am sure there are other road that are more dangerous. This one, however, was heavily traversed and therefore saw many fatalities.

I didn't name the road the locals named the road and they have lost many countrymen. The weather was good on the day we went down. There is usually fog and rain so it a bit scary if you are on a bus. Tell me about your travels in Afghanistan, I have yet to go.

In Chiavari, Italy we have even smaller roads going up the hills. You have to honk your horn every few minuetes when you go around a curve so you do not go head on with another car. The roads look more like a bike trail than a road! and then if you meet someone going the other way than you one of you has to reverse until you find a point that you can move out of the way to let them pass. :P I am so glad I live in the more urban area even if I have to deal with street prostitutes.

Buses and trucks would go off the road and down thousands of feet into the valley about once every two weeks. This is why it got the name Death Road. Bikers have fallen too on occasion but mostly from a lapse in concentration. No one said it was hard, but it was most certainly dangerous. There is now a new road that the buses and trucks take so it is much less dangerous now.

Yeah, I remember going in a bus on a similarly narrow road close to Santa Cruz and it was ridiculous. I looked over the edge and thought half our bus was driving on air. It was insane... Plus it was rainy and with heavy fog.
