Saw that road on top gear, they filmed out from the car window, it looked like they would fall down any time. The truks was driving fast as hell even then they where passing :/
Been there last january... beautiful place... not so dangerous as they want us to believe... maybe in the past, but not now... well, while going down by bike we saw a man almost falling down for dead with his bike, but hey, almost is almost!
This road doesn't look that dangerous, providing the weather is dry and you aren't in a large vehicle. The biggest worry for me would be oncoming vehicles, but you get that on many roads
@MEareCAT Right, the danger is caused by larger trucks and buses on single lane dirt roads. It's quite tricky passing. For bikers it's fairly safe although several have lost their lives. One of the guides on another bike tour group fell off his bike on the day we went down, so it is dangerous.
Looks scary. Some of the roads in karakoram and himalayan region are very challenging too. Narrow just like this one but the drop is much more than this road, there is no doubt that himalyan and karakoram mountain ranges are the highest in the world. That is a fact. I think folks dont know about them coz they are too steep for heavier trucks and they are basically jeep roads only. This climb is not that steep. The traffic is bad though. More people, more mistakes and more deaths
@shoot4thestars100 It wasn't too bad, but I was scared half to death when Cara, my wife, lost control when she hit a rock only two meters from a 1000 m drop. Thanks for commenting...
why the hell they are not building a better road!? (or they could enlarge it on some portions to allow 2 cars to pass, they only need a few kg of TNT )
@lbqpdl They did build a more modern road with lots of TNT. It tunnels in and out of the side of the mountain on the opposite side of the valley. It wasn't yet finished when we were there but is being used now. From the pictures I have seen of it, it looks just as terrifying...
Are there inlets in the mountains where they can park to let oncoming traffic go? Or do they suicidally try to pass in the middle of a half-lane road?
"COMPROMISING" doesn't means that you are wrong and someone is right , it only means that you value your "RELATIONSHIP" much more than your "EGO" , ...............
I have reported this shit for misleading/false content. This shit is definitely NOT the world's most dangerous road, and the video was fucking lame itself. Keeping in mind how huge the YouTube servers are, this video is still a waste of space in here.
@DignifiedSatanist You know, I didn't name the road, the Bolivians who have given up plenty of their own lives building in and falling off it named it "The Death Road" as it killed 300 a year. There is nothing misleading in the content. ABC Night Line did a piece on this road while we were there. Perhaps you can report them too.
I've seen quite a bit, and I think it was fairly dangerous for a truck, not really a bike. I am sure there are other road that are more dangerous. This one, however, was heavily traversed and therefore saw many fatalities.
Excellent! They are no longer placing as much emphasis on clearing this road. I prefer Guoliang Tunnel in China--more spectacular and still a viable route. FANTASTIC!
Roads in Afghanistan are perfectly safe and ppl loving...only that bombs if any are always put by vile cocksucking meddling ISRAELI MOSAD....the most dangerous of all
I didn't name the road the locals named the road and they have lost many countrymen. The weather was good on the day we went down. There is usually fog and rain so it a bit scary if you are on a bus. Tell me about your travels in Afghanistan, I have yet to go.
In Chiavari, Italy we have even smaller roads going up the hills. You have to honk your horn every few minuetes when you go around a curve so you do not go head on with another car. The roads look more like a bike trail than a road! and then if you meet someone going the other way than you one of you has to reverse until you find a point that you can move out of the way to let them pass. :P I am so glad I live in the more urban area even if I have to deal with street prostitutes.
@rubyflipper yea... let's NOT encourage the foolish tourist to come to a poor place and spend money... and make videos that might encourage others to come and spend money so the people who must use the roads can improve the life they live. use your head friendo!
not all americans are naive just the ones that don't get out of america and are to naive to learn about other countries and cultures. sorry cvillemac, i know your american but im just saying what everyone else is thinking. im from new zealand and most of the americans i met in america thought it was in europe or in australia. pretty stupid.
ok.,get all those americans that are unemployed and send them ovether to work together with the bolivians and make a new fucking roads ..u resolve 2 problems lack of roads and lack of work
I think that Morales first should make order in his own close countryside, build roads and bridges, and leave people from Santa Cruz in peace. The easiest thing is to wait for other people to do your homework, on their own cost, of course.
Buses and trucks would go off the road and down thousands of feet into the valley about once every two weeks. This is why it got the name Death Road. Bikers have fallen too on occasion but mostly from a lapse in concentration. No one said it was hard, but it was most certainly dangerous. There is now a new road that the buses and trucks take so it is much less dangerous now.
Yeah, I remember going in a bus on a similarly narrow road close to Santa Cruz and it was ridiculous. I looked over the edge and thought half our bus was driving on air. It was insane... Plus it was rainy and with heavy fog.
Yes it is a repost, I took the other down due to copy righted music. This video was taken in 2006. You can be assured any new video shot will be in HD. The grainy text is annoying. Thanks for the comment,
