interesting tapered wall and roof setup. Curious, I see this is raised up off the ground on concrete blocks. What did you do for the floor? Is it a standard "modern" wooden framed base with boards layed on top of it, perhaps with the framing nailed into the wall logs and elevated by concrete blocks?
@CanadianReich Good guesses! Yes, standard floor support, 2x6 frame nailed inside of logs, 2x4 joists with 2 inch styro insulation in-between, 3/4 plywood overlaid with parquet oak as top flooring. Logs elevated NOT by blocks, but by formed concrete piers that go into the ground 3 feet and are pyramidal in shape, (frost heave bad in that area.) 1/2" thick bolts sunk into the concrete vertically and the logs drilled, the bolts come thru, nuts fastened on, hole filled with Permachink. Very sturdy.
@kenofseattle Thanks for the comment, that radio finally died last fall, I think it was about 30 yrs. old and the battery area corroded to the point of no return. I have a little solar/hand-crank radio now, so no more batteries! Oddly, it doesn't have as good of a signal pull. They just don't make things they way they used to back in the 80s. :-)
You know, your video is kind of cool. I mean in regards to how we have a such a large country and a vast amount of local flavor throughout. Love your accent, loved the tunes on the radio and any watching the vid will feel something unique about your place. Best to you!!! :-)
@upussey Deliverance was filmed in SC and GA... miles from this place! Besides, you are the one using the word "ain't" LOL.... j/k. Thanks for the comment! Music was actually by the same two dudes that did the Beverly Hillbilly's theme, Flatt and Scruggs.
Yes, and it's hard for me to keep from laughing while I'm doing it. I'm totally mimicking the folks that live in the area. Even though it's Indiana, they all have this KY accent since it's very close to the Ohio river. Quite charming in it's own special midwestern way. :-)
Well, somebody has flagged this video for the music content at the end. So it may or may not have music anymore or for that matter, any soundtrack until I re-edit it and upload the video again once they kill the sound. The claim is unfounded and it's a "fair use" situation since the music is playing on the radio. I had no control over that and just taped it as it played. This whole "music copyright" thing has gotten way out of hand!
If I buy the CD don't I have some right to its content? It's not like we are profiting from it in any way. I'm never buying another CD from a major lable again. Private lables are fine, but Sony, BMG, Geffen, RCA, Epitaph, Fat, etc. can blow me.
Oh, hell yes! But it's the smallest I could find. I've been there in 10 below zero weather and nearly down to my skivvies to keep from sweating, and all with the windows wide open! It's actually kind of dangerous without them being open, the stove can suck all the oxygen out of that log box really quick!
@artistkeith3 Nice little cabin Keith! I'm curious about your comment about the box stove sucking oxygen out .... I want to build a similar sized cabin and use it as a sauna. My thoughts were to use a box stove for my heat source, heat up stones too. Have you really experienced and oxygen debt situation with the cabin shut tight and stove ablaze? Or is that just your gut feeling because it gets so damn hot in there....
@makeitinthemeadow No, it actually can burn hot enough to deplete the oxygen before more can leak in (thru cracks, etc.) if the windows were kept closed. There was an incident where someone actually passed out because of it. I won't go into details or mention names (DAVE), but after that we've always left a window or two open. I've also learned to make smaller fires or use slower burning, denser wood (hickory, dogwood). It would make a great sauna, just add stones and water!
