Like a lot of jokes this one lost something in the translation, but I bet the Dalai Lama thought about it, understood the joke ("enlightenment") and is probably repeating it around the monastary! The Dalai Lama has told jokes and laughed at himself so it was worth the effort for this reporter.

why would anybody be offended by this? The Dalai Lama is beyond this human experience...I felt a little disappointed at the reporter cause he could have used his time but hey if that smile is of happiness I am glad he made them laugh. why would we speculate? He doesnt teach us this...
