If you do a bit of research on pre-built water coolers, they're no substantially cooler in idle temperature, they're just well at keeping CPUs cooler under load. Most heatsinks beat h50 & H70 idle temps but struggle on load temps.
Maybe you got a bad one because my h70 ( also on an i7 920 on 4 ghz with 1.35 volts) is at about 43 c at idle an an average of 79 c while running prime 95 for about 30 min.
I have replaced many brands of coolers over the years, The old compound was removed, I am fully aware that these surfaces need to be completely clean when placing a New cooler.
I'm building my first gaming pc and i'm just starting to order what i can afford. Got my gigabyte 880gm-ud2h via ups today :D. I'm building this pc as i get the money. I was just curious if you still had both coolers and had like a competition or something to give the one u dont want away. I'd be very happy to be involved in that competition :D.
id really like to know what the best overclocking cooler is that i can get for the money. I'm probably going to get the amd 965 quad core. Anything extra like a cooler will be the last thing i get. I'm just buying stuff as i get the money.
Lmao, thats scraping a little out of my budget xD. I've seen some quality air coolers on tigerdirect. Thats where i'm doing most of my purchases. I saw this cooler and had to look up some vids of it in use and this one is a good example. But everyones experience is different with this stuff. I want something that i could run around 4ghz on a 965 quad core. but nothing to expensive.
@InsanityRewritten me and my brother did a thing to see if a computer,at the time a socket 7 K6II 500mghz with 32mb video card and 256mb ram,would run well in a small refrigerator,and the damndest thing is it did,we just packed it with sillica gel...that moisture absorbing stuff you get in briefcases,,,,to suck out all the water that the hot and cold would produce and damn if it didnt work fantastic,we drilled through the front to run our cords for mouse,video and keyboard--
@KeithWasHere1 he did all kinds of overclocking to his,some pretty big overclocks too something like 500mgz to like 750 or 800 buy having it in the refrigerator and also messing with the FSB settings and memory settings..i dont OC that much cause im always afraid of burning the system up,but i used mine then upgraded to a AMD athlon Slot 1 put it in the refer and it did wonderfully for like 2 years...then my house got hit by lightning and fried the wires and all that was connected to the wires.
@InsanityRewritten yeah ,but it worked,im considering doing it with my X4 940 deneb system. i mean as long as its dry in there hence the use of sillica gel or painters desecant/drying powder i dont see a downside other than not being able to get to your CD drives,but hey thats what they make external drives for....and the micro fridges are cheap these days 100 bucks or less and they get COLD!...gotta figure that's 100 or less for one hell of a cooling option.
@InsanityRewritten i might just do that tonight and post the results and try allittle OCing while its in there...i have a like dorm room fridge i keep in the garage too keep beer cold when im working on my cars, yeah i think i might just do that,lol gonna be uploading my first Yutube video here soon,wish me luck.,oh let me know the skinny on that Sabertooth or Crosshair V motherboard ,im considering one of them for my next build.but would like to get practical feedback from actual users.
holy ... those temp is spiking! my i7 930 air-cooled only having a temp of 40-43C on idle at 4.2Ghz. maxed out is about 76 to 80C. u should check it my fren :)
You are right about the paste. I recommend everyone who buy this kit NOT TO REMOVE THE THERMAL PASTE! It's very good and even better than arctic silver 5
You should be around 30 degrees Celsius with that cooler, man. Did you apply thermal paste and make sure it's installed properly? With that high of a temp on idol, you would probably be pushing 80-90+ with full load.
@iTek42 : I totally agree with you! I just completed my rig on intel i5 2500k stock cooling and getting a 36-40 degrees Celsius during idle! How come these water cooling products give him a higher temp than stock cooling? There must be something wrong in his system!
The pump its self cannot be heard but if you run the fans at 2000rpm they are very loud.... you do not need to run them at that speed though and 1600rpm is totally fine!
I have had the H70 for around 6 months now and there really is no difference in load temps! if you have never had one of these coolers then go for it but if you already have the H50 don't waist your money! its not a viable upgrade!
You mounted the inside fan wrong. The grill is the side that blows the air out you should turn it around if you want warm air to exit the case instead of pumping it back in...
@mrix2000 That is really strange.. Quite dissapointed to hear that =( I was expecting this to be better than the H50 but it looks like I'm going to stick to the old H50 and myself some money and case space.. =) thanks for the review!

Ppl if you don't notice temp drop set yr air conditioning to 60 degrees not 78. As long as you do this and put a powerful desk fan infront of your intake then u should see lower temps compared to h50

@mrix2000 i had that problem with higher temps too. if you haven't yet, you need to stop using the thermal compound that comes on the cooler and buy yourself some arctic silver. my Phenom2x4 idled at around 40 with the compound that came with the cooler and 22, yes 22 degrees with arctic silver.

But I'm really diggin my temps at 4.0GHz on my i7 960 (about 40-43C, maybe 35-38C on a cooler day). I was just hoping I could get the same out of the H70....
You should try the COOLER MASTER R4-C2R-20AC-GP 120mm Case Fan
69 CFM at 19 db. I use to of them on my H70. I don't have a H50 to compare it to but it is a lot better then the 212 Plus air cooler that MaximumPC gave a 10 to.
Hey man i was wondering what the temperature of your cpu is at load on 4ghz? i currently dont have water cooling but im considering it on my i7 950, ive got it at 3.33ghz but when i get it to 3.7ghz and put it on 100% load it get up to a toasty 67 c
Hello there, my test for load is games as that what puts the most load on my cpu in real day to day use and that`s what only concerns me. When playing BFBC2 or Call of Duty black Ops my cpu temp also is around the 65c to 70c which is perfectly ok... cheers mrix
the recomended max long term operating temp of an i7 is 74*C. You could take it higher as it is.
I am actually able to run my i7 at 89*C for a few hours at a time with no problems at all. All in all, you want to stay below 74, but i wouldnt call 67* to be "toasty"
As he stated your 67c is not a concern. The i7's run hotter than previous gen CPU's and anything under 80c frankly is not going to be an issue at 100% load. Granted if your pushing it for hours and hours on end at 100% load it is going to shorten your CPU life, but 80/85 is not critical range. Over 85 and at 90c your likely going to get some shut down issues from the system. I have the bios alarm on mine set at 80c so you won't burn something up over extended periods of use.
My GTX 480 is idle at 41 Celcius. I have the Superclocked one from EVGA and with a backplate. The backplate is what lowers the temps for me plus 8 fans on the case including one on the side pointing directly on the exterior heat sink and pipes.
@zx169 yeah xD i stoped using duel screen and noticed mine now runs about the same temp. so silly of me to forget duel screening brings up the temp of the gpu
@mrix2000 yeah im running full speed..i run all my fans at 100%. i guess noise doesnt bother me. i mostly have headphones on, but my GPU fan is definately more noticeable over my H70 to be honest.. which i also run at 100%
I know the Hydro series all in one systems are supposed to be safe but i'm honestly scared to put something like that in my system because by some rare cause, it might leak.
Great review, I'm also going to buy an h70, but can I just buy 2 3-pin fans and connect them to the h70? or do I have to connect the fans to the motherboard?
When you purchase the H70 it already comes with 2 fans but if you wish to use others that`s ok, you can use what power connectors you like, but the pump power lead would be better off attaching to the cpu fan connector.
dude ambiant temps are the same with any Cooler its when you overclock them and Stress test them you will see a Massive Diffrence in Temps. im sorry but you did not stress the Cores to Notice a Difference in Temperature / Peace
It your fans that are the issue the H70 requires much larger and more powerful fans to push air through the larger Rad. the h50 would see a much smaller difference if you were to add the same fan on both. Try it with some ultra kaze 3k RPM fans it'll e loud but that why u get a Rad like this
Well you dont need to be upset, you just helped alot of people make a choice, (me and my cousins). I decided to just add a 2 120mm radiator on our h50's and Bam 36c easly on idle or less (i7 940 no oc). Thank you for your vid and your help.
hay man i am thinking about getting it but should i get the h50 or h70 and you never had any leaks because i leave my pc on all day and all night and i did not have a good time with custom water cooling so what do you think?
@mrix2000 haha oops, missed the beginning. saw the grommets and screwless bays @7:13 and assumed 600t. how do u like the HAF X? is it actually high air flow?
Yes it been great!, I like the huge 230mm and 200mm fans that provide good airflow and operate at around 800rpm, as they operate at that speed they are fairly quiet.
There is also the shroud that slightly covers the graphics card that has an option to add a 120mm fan to help cool the card which I like.
Generally though its a quality case and I have not found any problems with it to date.
It's quite silly to try to measure at idle. You should run one of the CPU stresstests and measure the resulsts there.
At idling, water cooling isn't really optimal at all. As far as I've understood, fans are able to reach temperatures lower than the rest of the case/room, while watercooling will rarely drop lower than the surrounding area.
I'm sure that if you'd measure the difference at heavy load, you'd see the H70 beating the H5o by miles.
Gooooo the cat. :D Do you think the H70 would mount in the roof of a corsair 800D with the push pull fans exhausting air out of the case? Do you have your fans pulling air in? I want to upgrade for over clocking but I also want my case to look good at the same time.
aww look at the cat

The other one (between radiator and the case grill) is blowing where?
Shouldn't both fans blow air out of the case through the radiator?

You should try the COOLER MASTER R4-C2R-20AC-GP 120mm Case Fan
69 CFM at 19 db. I use to of them on my H70. I don't have a H50 to compare it to but it is a lot better then the 212 Plus air cooler that MaximumPC gave a 10 to.

Hey man i was wondering what the temperature of your cpu is at load on 4ghz? i currently dont have water cooling but im considering it on my i7 950, ive got it at 3.33ghz but when i get it to 3.7ghz and put it on 100% load it get up to a toasty 67 c
your reply would be very appreciated :)
killacreator 1 year ago
@killacreator
Hello there, my test for load is games as that what puts the most load on my cpu in real day to day use and that`s what only concerns me. When playing BFBC2 or Call of Duty black Ops my cpu temp also is around the 65c to 70c which is perfectly ok... cheers mrix
mrix2000 1 year ago
@killacreator
the recomended max long term operating temp of an i7 is 74*C. You could take it higher as it is.
I am actually able to run my i7 at 89*C for a few hours at a time with no problems at all. All in all, you want to stay below 74, but i wouldnt call 67* to be "toasty"
symphonia117 1 year ago
@killacreator
I have the bios alarm on mine set at 80c so you won't burn something up over extended periods of use.
bossxii 1 year ago
@bossxii i heard the i7s can run at 99c comfortably..

hey im wondeirng how did u get ur gtx 480 temp so low? i woudlnt see how u had ur gpu set up in ur comp and great review
darktim 1 year ago
@darktim
My GTX 480 is idle at 41 Celcius. I have the Superclocked one from EVGA and with a backplate. The backplate is what lowers the temps for me plus 8 fans on the case including one on the side pointing directly on the exterior heat sink and pipes.
zx169 1 year ago
@zx169 yeah xD i stoped using duel screen and noticed mine now runs about the same temp. so silly of me to forget duel screening brings up the temp of the gpu

my H70 fans are quite quiet... idk what you call loud but mine are definitely not to loud to me :P
nakedmongoose123 1 year ago
@nakedmongoose123
Are you running them at full speed which is 2000rpm, I find them very noisy at that speed.
mrix2000 1 year ago 2
@mrix2000 yeah im running full speed..i run all my fans at 100%. i guess noise doesnt bother me. i mostly have headphones on, but my GPU fan is definately more noticeable over my H70 to be honest.. which i also run at 100%
nakedmongoose123 1 year ago
@mrix2000 I remember my dad talking to me about H70 being really loud so he stayed with the H50
TomEatsBob 1 year ago
@TomEatsBob You can allways change the 120mm fans :)

@nakedmongoose123 Included H70 fans are VERY loud tbh, but it's all personal preference i guess.

@3:14: All booklets for H50... But you bought the H70 right?
Naarden4ever 1 year ago
Great review, I'm also going to buy an h70, but can I just buy 2 3-pin fans and connect them to the h70? or do I have to connect the fans to the motherboard?
jasper487 1 year ago
@jasper487
When you purchase the H70 it already comes with 2 fans but if you wish to use others that`s ok, you can use what power connectors you like, but the pump power lead would be better off attaching to the cpu fan connector.

@mrix2000 ok thanks, I so wanna buy this thing :D

do you need to do any maintenance and how to clean the compressor ?
MrAvatar9999 1 year ago
It your fans that are the issue the H70 requires much larger and more powerful fans to push air through the larger Rad. the h50 would see a much smaller difference if you were to add the same fan on both. Try it with some ultra kaze 3k RPM fans it'll e loud but that why u get a Rad like this
urmomisfineinbed 1 year ago
I would like to see you do a review comparing them with running Prime 95. I'm sure there would be a difference there.

Well you dont need to be upset, you just helped alot of people make a choice, (me and my cousins). I decided to just add a 2 120mm radiator on our h50's and Bam 36c easly on idle or less (i7 940 no oc). Thank you for your vid and your help.

but just so you know..the h70 is more or less a h50, just more compact (persay)

hay man i am thinking about getting it but should i get the h50 or h70 and you never had any leaks because i leave my pc on all day and all night and i did not have a good time with custom water cooling so what do you think?
dave2500xx 1 year ago
@dave2500xx
Get the H70 if you have never owned a H50. No worries about leaking, its not going to happen!
Best of luck

No the Case is from the Coolermaster brand called HAF X
mrix2000 1 year ago
@mrix2000 haha oops, missed the beginning. saw the grommets and screwless bays @7:13 and assumed 600t. how do u like the HAF X? is it actually high air flow?
McIvor67 1 year ago
@McIvor67

Nice review. Thx.

why do you corsair's value ram with an nice i7 and a gtx 480.....
AmaruPhoenix 1 year ago
It's quite silly to try to measure at idle. You should run one of the CPU stresstests and measure the resulsts there.
At idling, water cooling isn't really optimal at all. As far as I've understood, fans are able to reach temperatures lower than the rest of the case/room, while watercooling will rarely drop lower than the surrounding area.
I'm sure that if you'd measure the difference at heavy load, you'd see the H70 beating the H5o by miles.

there's a cat on the bed in case you have not noticed yet ;)
89schlappe 1 year ago
Gooooo the cat. :D Do you think the H70 would mount in the roof of a corsair 800D with the push pull fans exhausting air out of the case? Do you have your fans pulling air in? I want to upgrade for over clocking but I also want my case to look good at the same time.
BenHanna7 1 year ago
@BenHanna7
Have no idea about if the H70 would fit your 800D case.....as for the fans, they are pushing air from outside in.
Cheers
mrix
mrix2000 1 year ago
At idle they're the same.. with X6 or i7 under load the H70 is best by a fair amount.
acer0169 1 year ago

would you buy the h70 or the h50 if you build a new system? I mean the H50 is cheaper and has a smaller radiator...

I would still buy the H70 if I did not own the H50 prior.
