Sometimes when you cant hear the vocals as much as the guitar it dosent always mean the vocals must come UP. cough-guitar-cough. Balance of stage volume from each instument is the make or break of the performance. Start soft and bring it up, amp distortion is fine at a low stage volume, thats what pedals and PA are for. Everyone should hear everyone not just themsef

On the singing....learn to sing from your stomach. A lot of new guys sing from their throats. A lot of that is just nerves. When you learn how to push from your stomach you'll see a huge power difference.
