@mungoed if u click the icon for it it will appear at the top with spotlight and all that, it will be the new icon on the far left, right click it and you can change preferences or arm it or check for updates, hope that helps

this does work on all macbooks. and no you do not need a remote, but if you do not have a remote you have to put in a password (that you set) everytime it goes off. so the remote makes it easier.

i misunderstood the use of this program, i though it would email me info if my mac was stolen tracked via the internet. its more like a car alarm than a lowjack. it beeps and flahes. good if you need to go to the bathroom in a public place like a library (god help you if it acceidently goes off lol) FUNNY STORY:

Best of luck removing the battery without \moving the macbook/. It uses the motion sensor. However, you could close and dash. It would shut up as soon as sleep finished. There's other software out there like LockDown which is based on iAlertU. Both are free & I've not played with either yet. YMMV.

You can't activate the remote if your computer is shut down. Same applies to a closed lid.

If it's closed, carry the notebook around.

The alarm sounds when you close the lid (even if you haven't moved the machine), and when you type or use the mouse, or unplug the adapter.. The only thing that actually "gets around" the alarm is plugging in headphones so it's not as loud, and of course entering the password..

Correction, you can. Activate iAleru, and look for the - button on the taskbar and click it. Click on preferences, and general, and check Enable arm from menu. Set a password, and click the icon again, select arm system, enter password, and close your mac. It works better with a remote though. But the new ones don't have remotes.
