I have one of those with a MMP esc and a 4600 kv castle motor. on 3S its just insane it will wheelie if you floor it at even if you are already at 3/4 throttle. the motor is so powerful i had to use 32 pitch gears (12t pinion (emaxx))and a 52t spur (from a Jato)). its a really fun truck =D
i drove my rustler in ice. p.s. i do not have full water proof. i all so tested my new rc parts with lipo. not my battery i have one battery it is a 6 cell. i have a brushed
@drayclay1000 if your ESC supports it than yes just make sure you don't go with a lipo that has a higher voltage than your ESC can handle. If your ESC has a low voltage cutoff then you should be fine. if not then get an alarm or a low voltage cutoff
I have managed to run mine full throttle with 34/76 gearing on 3s lipo once next to a runway at an aerport. I had Anaconda tires on it as I don't think the stock tires are safe at that speed. I also added a downforce wing to the front to hold the front end down. That was the only way to keep it from flying at over 70mph. My esc blew a few months ago so I replaced it with a 100 amp esc. Will be enstalling a 2150kv. 4074 motor. Can't wait to try it with 3.46 horse power under the hood.
WithTalon or the stock tires this truck becomes very unstable at those speeds. What you need are the Anaconda tires. They won't baloon as much so you may want to put a 33 or 34 tooth pinion instead of the 31 tooth as the tire diameter will be smaller due to less ballooning. You can also run the lower gearing with the lipos you just don't want to use the higher gearing with the nimh batteries. I am rinning 23/83 gearing with my 3s lipo and Talon tires for running in grass.
I don't have the VXL but I upgraded to the Velineon 3500. I have tallon tires to keep mine on the ground. I am saving up for lipo's too. The one thing I have noticed is you have to check the screws before every run. I had my suspension get caught on a tie rod and it was a good half hour before I got it back in the right shape. I do think this car is invincible though, the only replacements for it where the new motor and ESC

@MaTT22296 The gears are cheap to get. But a good LiPo battery will run you $50-$80. Don't buy a cheap LiPo, spend the extra money and get a quality battery that will last and put out the power it says it will.

I know there is also a chart in the owners manual for gear ratios, and it specifically says to only use LiPo batteries with 31/76 gears, and not the 7 cells.
Trust me man, go get a 3s 11.1 volt LiPo and give it a run. The car is silly fast with it.
@TraxxasRustler97 No, you don't want to run those gears on the stock battery. You'll overheat the speed controller & motor. You CAN run a LiPo battery with the stock gears, but not the other way around.
Bought my dad a VXL Rustler two weeks ago for his birthday. Right out of the box, this car is really fast. I was so impressed with it that I bought one for myself yesterday along with a 3200mah 3s 25c LiPo battery and the 31/76 gears like the one in your video.

put a weelie car on it and a 8000 mah lipo 3s and it hals butt. put different gearing and loose the foam that u have for the lipo cause if u run lipo its fine i run lipo on my xl5 rustler with 550 titan motor and it hals too. also i have put in a 18 t motor in a 13t radon and it gave me mor speed and less power. i the went agianst a brushless velineion 3s 8000mah lipo 2wd traxxas slash and i caught up with it. so i recomend a different lipo maybe a 3s 8000mah hard pack lipo

Ive got a 3.3 t-maxx and that was fun for a while , but then i got a Rustler vxl , 10,000 times more fun
im also running the 31T Pinion & 76T Spur , with a 3000mah lipo , and ive found that securing an average sized pair of pliers in the front keeps the nose down and im able to go full throttle , but doing wheelies all day is fun too , also the worn out anaconda tyres on the rear are still grippy but are also awesome for doing a couple 360's

yes that is correct. The mah affects the total number of amps available. So a 3S 20C 1000mah battery will only put out 20 amps, as opposed to a 3S 20C 5000mah battery which will put out 100 amps. So this definitely affects the overall performance and speed.
Definitely need to add weights to my VXL. I had it hydroplane in the strong winds today and almost go into the pond at the end of my street. Scary fast to drive. Any other handling upgrades?

what gets me is those number claims on the box wont tell you how fast with the 7 cell 8.4v 3000mah they give you. do you know if you have to swap gears every time you use a lipo?

my rustler vxl.. has a problem as soon as i turn on the car it goes nuts and starts running full speed and i dont even touch the throttle.... any suggetions on whats wrong?
@CAWproductions24 If you havent solved your problem yet then here are a few suggestions: turn your throttle trim all the way back as far as it will go and also make sure your esc isnt fried both of those could be the problem.

hi, im 12, i have 1/16 e revo vxl, i love it, i only run on nimh, im thinking about getting lipo batterys soon, also i would like to know if the rustler vxl is a good buy? because i might be asking for it for my upcoming birthday and i was wondering if it was REALLY worth it? im also nervous about those lipo batterys, they scare me haha, please let me know about your opinion.

@store245 Depends on the MaH, the 7 cell that comes with the car will last about 15 minutes all out, 20 on and off.

Good stuff Jetlag! i have a ruslter vxl and had it for about a year now but i ran a big 2s most of the time ive had it, and i placed an order on a 3s but i ran 28/76 with a 2s and it got sooo freakin how, like the motor and esc, did yours get very hot with a 3s? ir does it help it:?? good video man!

@XXXDusthatassXXX yes the MAH does affect it. a higher MAH can put out more amps.

yes that is correct. The mah affects the total number of amps available. So a 3S 20C 1000mah battery will only put out 20 amps, as opposed to a 3S 20C 5000mah battery which will put out 100 amps. So this definitely affects the overall performance and speed.

Definitely need to add weights to my VXL. I had it hydroplane in the strong winds today and almost go into the pond at the end of my street. Scary fast to drive. Any other handling upgrades?

what gets me is those number claims on the box wont tell you how fast with the 7 cell 8.4v 3000mah they give you. do you know if you have to swap gears every time you use a lipo?

ya put weights on the front, and it will do the perfect wheelie!!!put about 6 of them(they are little square weights that you can get at a hobby store)

@CAWproductions24 If you havent solved your problem yet then here are a few suggestions: turn your throttle trim all the way back as far as it will go and also make sure your esc isnt fried both of those could be the problem.

i bought my rustler vxl not to long ago but i have an 11.1v 8000mah battery and i was thinking yours can go 65mph with 5000mah im guessing 8000mah would even be better...also almost every single car u bought and did a review i bought it as well you havent let me down yet you make the best reviews...
