  • Only another 7 or so years and it'll be back on :D

  • I would have to say, the demo'er has some learning to do with gear before he's gonna' come back to this pedal in 10 years time loving it.

  • @72superlead As stated before this video is pretty dated and this was played through a shitty amp and you really cant explore a pedals tone without a tube amp IMO. but 3 years after this video was made, alot has changed in my rig but this has stayed out of my pedalboard

  • question, can a pedal lose its tone over time? because my ds1 used 2 sound great

but now its lost alot of its punch :( how can i fix this besides buying a new one

  • @utubeThatOneBand Change the battery?

  • @utubeThatOneBand Naaa mate, I had an OD-1 I just sold and replaced it with an SD-1 and they were identical. Unless somethings gone wrong, battery is dyying then a properly functioning pedal will not lose it's tone. Unless its germanium.. In which case heat and cold can affect it's tone.

  • i just bought one for ten dollars....how could i have said no lol

  • Why is everyone so obsessed with putting all knobs at 12:00?

  • @469Shooter because thats the best place to start when tryin to find the "sweet spot"... works with amps also

  • Metal and telecaster.. not often you hear about someone trying to play metal with one of them.

  • DS-1

i got this from a website for how Kurt Coabin used his Ds 1

tone-3-5[put lower if u wan the 'bleach' sound]

    level-6-8

    dist.-all the way up.

  • are you Canadian Scottish??

  • @ThePoorhillbilly yea irish and scottish. but my family has been in canada for a few generations

  • @1DAngus1 my cousins have some massive similarities in the way they say certain words with you. they are from Scotland. the words ''about'' "'Like"" Tones''""Website""Distortion"" are exactly how they same them. its fascinating, the same accent but from a different part of the world. This is a very good video, because you actually went through each aspect with enough information, and showed the fact that this pedal is an gain aid more than anything. but do i need cables for this? adapters?

  • might be that your using a tele with it. I hear its pretty gritty and a telle just wont mix

  • The way something sounds is down to the player and how they're using it.

  • DUDE HELP ME I NEED SOME HELP... i know i sound like a n00b but ive played for five years and im having trouble setting this up with my vox vt30

  • Electric Gypsy intro eh?nice..

  • Ohh..you're not looking for a gritty distortion, huh? Otherwise you'd "love the living shit out of this pedal."

  • Hey, quick question!

I have an Orange Crush 35 practing amp, and it has a lovely clean tone ,i´m wondering if this pedal will work fine for playing like Van Halen and 80s Metal,i tried to study with a Metal Zone but i didn´t like it´s tone.

  • this pedal has the worst sustain ever. thats for sure. the sond is actually awful. i hate it. i wanna try and modify it

  • this fucking pedal is fucking awful!!!!but when people from boss like johhny whaever his name is sounds really cool............wasted my money in this peice shit!!!

  • You can mod it. I wouldnt use the term crunchy for tone. More like bright, fat or warm(muddy). RAT2 supposed to be good. Get a real guitar with 2 good humbuckers if you want a nice fat sound. Teles are generally bright, not fat. A nice analog chorus helps. I bought the MXR micro chorus for 70 shipped. Sweet pedal for the money.

  • does the level really affect how much distortion there is

  • @gunraykilla Not really, it does a little, because it pushes your amp harder.

  • Dude, how can you criticize anything when your playing through a Line 6 75 watt solid state amp? Your nicest piece of quipment is your telle, and that was probably your dads.

  • @andy2108 No, the guitar is 100% mine, this video is very old, and i admit i was somewhat uneducated about the pedal when i made this.

I now own a Mesa Boogie Stiletto Trident head. and my opinion has not really changed towards this box. it is a little better with a tube but not enough to make a remake on the video.

  • @andy2108 You don't need a 5000000 watt amp to play good. In the words of Flea, equipment is meaningless.

  • @Zackr27 I didnt say anything about the kids skills

  • @andy2108 Fuck it. I'm done arguing with people on youtube.

  • MEtal zone Or Ds-1 ???

for metal industrial grunge rock and roll!

  • @ricomitrozonnn Metal zone

  • @ricomitrozonnn mesa boogie dual rec

  • hey... thanks for telling... yea.. i just found the right pedal for me.. digitech grunge.. its perfect for me.. u should try one too:)

  • @CheeLoong92 i actually do not like that pedal at all..lol i find it very harsh

  • hey... good demo... but which pedal would u recommend if i like songs like paramore, my chemical romance, switchfoot, linkin park, sum 41.. basically punk rocks:) not too heavy distortion but not too light either.. thanks=)

  • @CheeLoong92 Not this one. Too be honest I play amp distortions. I like them better. I like pedals for od and boost

  • hey... good demo... but which pedal would u recommend if i like songs like paramore, my chemical romance, switchfoot, linkin park, sum 41.. basically punk rocks:) not too heavy distortion but not too light either.. thanks=)

  • @CheeLoong92 all those bands have completely different sounds

  • I play this pedal with a jackson reverse neck dx10d through a fender bassman 135...sounds great for like alternative and such. BUT ITS HORRIBLE FOR HEAVEY METAL!! FUCKEN HORRRRRRIBLE!!

  • @Hoppus217 Hahaha no worries, PM me if you have any questions about pedals.

  • @Hoppus217 It's a sort of overdrive pedal. Most people use the Tube Screamer TS-808 or TS-9 made by Ibanez, Maxon also makes fantastic ones. I use them before my distortion pedal to drive the distortion pedal some more. Find a cool blend and neat things can happen.

  • While I will agree - this is pretty much a one dimensional pedal, it IS possible to obtain a usable tone. Just a suggestion - you might want to put a noise suppressor

in your send/return effects loop. that will knock out that buzz I'm hearing - it wont eliminate it, but it will shut it out when you're not actively playing anything.

  • that pedal is shitty i have one there really bad metal core or what ever its called is the way to go if you want a good distortion from boss

  • no wonder its sounds like crap in this video, your settings sucked. you had the tone up too high and the gain to low. if you have the tone at about nine and the gain all the way up tune to drop d and it gets pretty heavy!

  • @KvSrocks if you put the tone between 12 and 11 o clock and put the distortion all the way and and the level adjust it just like the tone and you can play like slipknot and mushroom head stuff....o and this pedal doesnt go along with just any amp, i have a spider iv 75 and its awesome sounding...i tried it on a fender like a 25 watts one and it sounded like shit

  • u think i can play A7X using it

    ?

  • Meh, you could, but i would choose another pedal

  • Whoa watch your mouth there fella!

  • I love electric gypsy!! Great song!

  • Hey, thanks for the demo. Personally I just picked one of these up and I've been able to get a much better sound out of it then on your demo (Not a competition, just saying this because you said it was hard to get a heavy tone out of it, just for information's sake). In case you're curious I'm using a Line 6 Spider III 15 watt and an Ibanez RG350DX, both are completely stock, nothing has been changed, though I will get a Keeley mod in the future.

  • yea for sure. obvisously some pedal must like them cause there still selling.. Personally im not a huge fan, buts its still in my board so it cant be that bad. Not a MAIN OD/DIST for me tho.

  • @1DAngus1 I use it as a base distortion and throw my TS-9 Ibanez Tube Screamer over it, gives me a great solo tone. Just an idea.

  • Cool Thanks

  • @1DAngus1 No worries, rock on.

  • Dude, lookup Keeley mods or google for DS-1 mods. There are a number of mod kits as well as mod services that you can get for this pedal. Most pros are using a modded version of the pedal.

A lot of people seem to agree that the stock version sucks most of the time.

  • yes i am fully aware of keeley mods, i have tried a number of them this demo was souly to potray my feeling on this pedal. i dont want a keeley mod its a waste of money in my opinion unless you buy the pedal from him modded. i would rather buy a pedal that i already like. such as the boss Bd 2

  • There is no doubt, that this pedal sounds better with a Gibson then a Fender. But it is allso a matter of taste, i personally love this pedal >:)

    Iggvf

  • umm maybe cuz u have a line 6? thats why it sux.. n.e way... it doesnt sound that bad... you just have a bad guitar for the kina music ur playin

  • yea the line 6 does come into play. but it comes down to personal preference and i dont reallly like this pedal. just my opinion i think there are better ones out there.

  • "i hated the living shit out of it" haha

  • get a better guitar then you get a better heavier sound

  • ive used a number of guitars on this pedal. and i can get hevier tones out of different pedals

  • Dont you love it when the phone rings when you are trying to record something?

  • i thought most players used these pedals as a boost over whatever other distortions they had running?

nice Tele by the way. I'm getting mine somewhat customised and it'll be ready to roll after crimbo.

  • Yes your right! i commonly do use this as a boost over other dist/OD. Unfortunately i did not show that in this demo

  • Mostly tube screamers and overdrive.

  • johnny demarco has distortion on his amp.. so he boost it with the ds-1.

check de video and you hear the amp isnt clean..

    but good video:)

  • It really can do metal! Tone at 45% or 40%, Dist at 100%. But I must add that I'm using Seymour Duncan Distortion pickups ;-) But, it sounds nowhere near your demo, so I think it depends a lot on which amp/speaker/guitar/pickups you have. I am actually surprised about the sound I get ... it's not the same type of distortion I get from my 200/300$ tube pedals, but it's very nice and full anyway O.o

  • haha awsome! ive tried everything the sound sucks to me:(

  • True. I'm using a crappy Epiphone Guitar on a crappy 15 wat amp. I know it sucks, but when I crank up the distortion on both the amp and boss pedal and I can get pretty close to a Deftones Setting, but I would like to up grade to a metal pedal and a better amp if I had the money.

  • What does it sound like with tone, level, and gain all the way up? Nobody ever demonstrates it in these videos.

  • they said "thats what she said" to sound wrong lol. Nobody gets that joke anymore!!

  • no you cannot. And XiaNingTian please learn to spell..

  • sorry

  • "you kinda hav to play with it to find wat u like" tahts wat she said

  • she??!??!!! wierd but anyway can you change mode on this?

  • the blues driver is a great pedal. you'll love it. you should demo it.

also i have this pedal and i love it for metal.

    yea

    thanks!

  • Hey, nice vid, but it would get some awesome distortion if you wernt using a Tele, because they're made for blues really

  • No thats not a very valid statement at all. Teles are very versatile guitars, and when you throw humbuckers in them they can do what ever you need. So go try one. And i dont make statements or judgments on effects with just using one style of guitar.

    Just a thought

  • Hmm, well the one i have tried it does have some nice distortion it just has a natural sort of reverb to it so its like Metalblues haha i do like them though, but if you were using a guitar made to shred Metal it may have that distortion

  • i see what your saying, it all comes down to preference. and i personally am not a huge fan, decent pedal. you get what you pay for

  • yeah man, ive never been a fan of Pedals either, i prefer amp distortion, its just nicer tbh, my Orange Crush is perfect ;) haha

  • Comment removed

  • All right, thanks!

    Nice vid BTW

  • Is the power adapter included??

  • No, They never are included with Boss Pedals

  • DS1 is digital right?

    Great Jobb

  • Hey man ever heard of robert keeley? He modifies pedals such as this to make them sound MUCH better. For about $80 he'll mod your DS1. It makes it bassier and gives it a stacked Marshall sound. You should check him out ;)

  • yes i have heard of keely most of his mods are decent, not a HUGE fan though. i dont use that DS1, it belongs to a friendof mind. i use my amp distortion for a heavier tone and my boss BD2 for a blues tone

  • Keeley mods those too, to be honest a stock blues driver is way thin. when Keeley mods it, my God, it is not only for blues, but for basic rock. He makes that pedal Fulltone-quality :D

  • Man i know what keely mods their blues driver mod is fantastic but im quite happy with my stock blues driver.

  • nice demo and your completely right about the johnny demarco thing i watched him demo the boss me 20 and the metal distortion on it sounded awesome on his video but then i tried it out in guitar center and it sucked ass so never trust the boss videos always try it out yourself

  • does it make a difference if you already have the amp set to distortion and u turn it on??

  • Yes it alters the distortion a little. also adds volume and noise.

  • Artist use it . . . but there are all Modded.

    Thats why . . .

    Nice demo.

  • Yea i thought so..

  • Its MINE bitch

  • Thats why i said, my buddy picked it up
