@TheKuyaefren he made the denominators the same, since he had 16/5 and just 5, he needed to have the same denominator for it to calculate. And whatever you do to the bottom you have to do to the top, so if you multiply the one that represents 5 by five, you need to do it the same way with the 5 on top. Make sense?
first: and he needed to make the denominators the same! so he multiplied by 5 :)
Thank you! I didn't understand how he came to 25-16/5 but now it makes sense, so when ever you're equation starts with - you change the signs in the equation and eliminate the - right ?
@leo3k, and @Seattle206723, okay from the step 5 = 16/5 + b, he brought the '5' over to the left hand side making it a negative, like this: 16/5 + b - 5, then he moved the 'b' over to the right hand side making the equation like this: b = 16/5 - 5, from there he just subtracted the fractions 16/5 with 5/1.
At 5:44 he went from 5= 16/5 +b to b= 25-16/5. How is that possible to get 25? I know he skipped a step, but I didn't know you could possibly rewrite it to 5*5 from a fraction stand point. I would think you were taking 16/5 * 5/1. Not 5*5 when it is rewrote.
why the hell schools make this stuff difficult.? and this video make it very simple, and people pay in schools.... hmmm. Okay Khan, you need to clone yourself so that you can teach this so great teacher how to teach..heheh..
I have a question, I'm just reviewing basic algebra because I'm entering Algebra 2 Next year. When they taught me slope, they taught me that I needed to take the square root of : x1^2 multiplied by x2^2/ y1^2 multiplied by y2^2. Is there any scenerio where there awnser is different if you square it or not? I've always done it your way, but are there any special situations?
I was just wandering what kind of program you use to do your lessons. I was going to use the program to do problems on instead of using paper and pencil. Your Videos rock!
I know its been a while since you asked your question but this might be a little help. he subtracted 16/5 from both sides and he got 5-16/5 ,then he took the common denominator 5 and multiplied it with 5..so he got 25. I might have confused you more but thats all I can say about it.
thanks alot Khan..I mean it was reallly hard for me to figure out slope of a line..butnot anymore i got all the formulas and coordinates right..You Rock..awesome tnx alot..
Test tommorow you make my math test so easy (actually in the slope part but that variables Uhhhhh dont get me started -_-!!!

16/5 - 5/1 ( multiplied by 5)
16/5 - 25/5

b=5-16/5
b=9/5
He skipped some steps...

I understand the 25 but why do you have to subtract the 16, and than devide by 5?
